brunch/lunch by Poe House
Yes, that's the one. I mean, it's all tender and juicy and shredded by the time it's in the sandwich, so it's no different in its make-up as a sandwich. But the depth in flavour is incredible and they use excellent long hot peppers, sharp provolone and it literally drips with juice. I would give Dinic's a 95/100 and Paesano's a 99.

I would say Paesano's is easily worth going out of your way for. The sandwiches are incredible, and the warmth of the staff is amazing given how busy they are. They love to talk food with you and if you get the Arista, you will honestly wonder how there can be such misery in the world when it's so easy to have such pleasure.
As for Ethiopian. Kaffa Crossing is decent and a nice spot. Abyssinia is more run-down but consistently serves up the best Ethiopian food around. I've been to all the popular places and always end up back here. This is mainly because their kitfo is so fresh, well-spiced and addictive!
You wouldn't want to walk from Rittenhouse to Northen Liberties. It's walkable but will take close to an hour if you're taking things in. If you want though, for $2 you could jump on the Market-Frankford line near City Hall, and this would take you to Front and Girard which is right at the top of Northern Liberties (and a block from Paesano's!).
What's wrong with my risotto?
I have to agree with this and couldn't have put it better myself.
Alma de Cuba versus El Vez on a weeknight
El Vez is an awful place. The food is horrible. Alma all the way!
Dinner suggestion-from out of town
Ethiopian at Abyssinia! Perfect way to relax after a long flight - kitfo, fitfit, beer, no frills. And it's not too far to get back to the Main Line afterward.
Roast Pork Sandwiches in Philly
That's a good list, but you should make sure you try Paesano's last, because anything you try after will be a letdown.
Dim Sum Carts in Chinatown...
I second Ocean Harbor. You should either get there early or expect to wait up to half an hour.
Tacquerias - Italian Market
Great...let us know what you think! Here is the menu so you can get planning... http://philadelphia.menupages.com/menuprocess?id=42068&link=d06775ba857494d81876c9c5846cf63905ce7e80e3db4b8e0133b0dd7935404b66fcb121eac560e49f64d7aac5b59b85
Tacquerias - Italian Market
I went tonight. My girlfriend and I shared the cowboy beans, a beef and chorizo sandwich with avocado, and a huitlacoche quesadilla. All were huge, fantastic and perfectly washed down with horchata. Bill came to $25. Go!
Tacquerias - Italian Market
I decided against going tonight, because I'm having a big Ethiopian meal tomorrow night so I went with a light dinner tonight! I suggest you try it though, offal or not...
Tacquerias - Italian Market
Yes they are! Somehow I forgot I got one of them as well!
Tacquerias - Italian Market
Los Taquitos de Puebla, which I discovered recently, has a whole section of "grisly bits". I had the lengua and the mixed cow's head tacos. My friend got a sandwich as big as her head. They also have wonderful horchata. In fact, now I'm salivating so I may go there tonight!
Paesano's Roast Suckling Pig Sandwich
Finally tried the gustaio yesterday, and it was every bit as good as you said! We shared one of those, an arista and an order of potatoes. Then we shared a crispelle, and waddled home sated and stuffed. I love this place!
balthazar bread
I have a recipe for their chocolate bread, if you want it. I made it once and it was fantastic. I'm heading out now though so I can't do it just this minute.
how long does cooked food last?
If food is cooled quickly and properly and reheated thoroughly then up to a week should be fine (not including seafood here). I know that is not what the authorities would say, but the food I use is very fresh and I've never had a problem with getting sick. Generally it will smell funky if it is.
Paesano's Roast Suckling Pig Sandwich
Haha, I ended up not going there; I tried Smokin' Betty's instead, which was pretty good too. Next time...
What museum?
Paesano's Roast Suckling Pig Sandwich
Also Holly, I just had a browse around your blog and it's really good. I look forward to reading more!
Paesano's Roast Suckling Pig Sandwich
I always get the potatoes anyway;)
But usually I leave wayyy too stuffed, so this will be good. I'm salivating; Maybe I will go today for lunch!
Paesano's Roast Suckling Pig Sandwich
Gustaio. Glad to hear it's good; that's the next one on my list!
how long does cooked food last?
My dad is always asking calling me to ask if it's safe to eat a particular item that's been in his fridge a few days. I always tell him that as long as it doesn't smell, and he heats it up thoroughly then he'll probably be fine. He's still alive, so I guess that system works!
I will usually be fine with eating leftovers upto a week. After that, it depends on what's in it, and I rely on the sniff test.
What are you drinking right now?
I'm drinking some Golden Monkey right now, by Victory. Good, potent stuff!
Mostarda di Cremona
I was thinking about making it myself, but I want to have a jar of the good stuff in order to compare - it's been ages since I've had it so I might not be able to tell if mine is as good!
New Restaurants - MSP?
I've been trying to figure out for the last ten minutes what the hell "MSP" means. Please enlighten!
