I asked a question like this a few months back and had some mixed results and nothing that fits into the whole DD&D's.

Inexpensive Italian takeout near Bayside?
I've never gotten a meal from Cascarino's where I didn't have an issue. If I get delivery from there, keep in mind I live off 215th and 40th.... 3 blocks from Cascarino's) If they say the food will be ready for pickup in 20... it's an hour. I'm not talking about 5 full dishes and appitizers either, I'm talking 2 chicken franchaise hero's and a spinach salad which was my final straw there took me waiting 45 minutes at the counter for my food at 10pm on a Friday night... Place was EMPTY.
Delivery is just as bad with timing, and their food has dropped off in quality since they opened. The other Cascarino's in CP? Food is still good imo. Also it doesn't help that Cascarino's pushed their prices up a few bucks per dish like everyone else did.
I'd stay away from high expectations from Il Vesuvio as well which is across the street from the big C. They do fine with pizza and simple pasta dishes but never had anything there that was fabulous.
There is a place on the LIE service road and bell I think it's called Villa Rustica. While service there has always been slow for me, they make a decent brick oven pizza and the few dishes I've had there have always been good, price wise it's prob the same as Cascarino's.
My personal Italian fav would be Giardino's on Northern Blvd and Douglaston Pkwy where the traffic redlight camera is positioned.
Italian in great neck/Little neck area?? Help!
Antonino's is great. Glorified pizza place? yeah, but they make a great homemade vinegarette for salad's that still has to be one of the best salad dressings i've ever had, the fam agrees.
Their Brushetta Chicken hero is top notch and their Franchaise is probably my fav out of all the different places I've had it at.
Looking to go Apple Picking this weekend.
Any suggestions? I used to go to Masker Orchards way back when, but times change and so do the best spots to go and grab your own apples.
Do any fellow CH'ers have any reco's for good Apple Orchards near NYC to make a day out of it?
Italian in great neck/Little neck area?? Help!
No love for Giordino's on Northern and Little Neck Pkwy I think it is? It's been a go to fav of mine for a few years now. They even have nutella ravioli's for desert, they might have even been fried. it's been a while since I've sat for a meal there as I always seem to go takeout.
The people who own Giordino's also own Russo's on the Bay, so needless to say you'd hope the quality of the food is comparable.
I live in Bayside and this is my spot I runto for Italian food. Not Vesuvio's sitdown restaurant or their pizzaria which family friends of mine owned before it became Il Vesuvio's, and I certainly don't waste my time waiting for the subpar Cascarino's on Bell either.
Address help - W 45th St.
And by "basic" you mean "considered sh**ty by the locals."?
I'm a huge fan of John's personally. Always have been, I don't go to the one in Midtown when I want Pizza as I make the trip downtown.
For pizza reco's in midtown check out MidtownLunch.com there's quite a few Pizza reco's to be found there but midtown is where you won't find amazing pizza that's for sure.

SO what's the back story and your desire to find this less than stellar pizza on 45th?
Fried Chicken in Brooklyn (this just can't be!)
Popeyes and Bojangles(there's one in Williamsburg). That's about as top notch consistent as you'll find in BK.
Address help - W 45th St.
Yeah Little Italy is next to the courtyard across from the hotel he is speaking about. The Pizzeria on the same side of the block is Park Gourmet Pizza I believe. Those 2 joints are across the street from each other.
Did you bother to check out GoogleMaps to aid your search? I know for a fact W 45th has the street view option that'll be useful in your search.
Taste of Jackson Heights - Sat, 9/13
I need my glasses checked. Hah!
Their BBQ since it isn't in Manhattan around the touristy area's it goes well under the radar. As far as BBQ sides aren't all sides supposed to be towards dismal? IMO Love the Potato Salad with sliced apples in it and their chili @ the Ranger/Legends.
Best Gyro?
Alvi all day and all night. However as if there Gyro wasn't head and shoulders tastier and better than the others in Bayside, their Chicken and Pork Donner's are just as great, if not better.
Baltimore style Pit Beef in NYC area?
Thanks Dave! Been to your site before and looking forward to this place opening for a excursion from midtown for lunch one day.
Baltimore style Pit Beef in NYC area?

New BBQ joint in LIC?
Yeah, Angel and his brother are still the pitmasters from back when Pearson's was there years back and they've added a few things or atleast the owners of Legends added it and they cook it (stuff other than smoked goodness).
New BBQ joint in LIC?
Hey fellow PH :) Are you looking specifically for BBQ in the QZ or more so just info on the newest spot?
My personal fav for BBQ in the Ny area is and will always be The Ranger Texas BBQ in Jackson Heights which is in the back of Legends Bar on 34th ave I believe. They do great Eastern Carolina Pork, great Beef Ribs and Brisket, good sides (limited though) They put sliced apples in their Potato Salad which is a nice touch too.
As an appetizer my fav is their deep fried beef short rib flautas. Smoked short ribs shredded, sauces and rolled in tortillas and deep fried. Yum.
They also have some of the best no bean texas chili, myself or my girl have ever had. It's a no frills place with lots of beer ontop thanks to the bar and it's a shame they don't get as much love in blogs or reviews on websites like all the glorified smokehouses in the city.
New BBQ joint in LIC?
I read a review on it on either a BBQ blog or Serious Eats that basically said the smoked foods were the last thought on the menu that the chefs put together as it's BBQ and other food all under one spot. Ofcourse everyone should let their own tounge decide for themselves when it comes to bbq.
New BBQ in Wantagh - Tennessee Jed's
As soon as I saw the word "EXCELLENT" that's exactly what I thought.
Me? I'll just stick with Legends in Jackson Heights.
Pupusas in NYC?
Do a search here and on Serious Eats for the "Red Hook Ball Fields" that's more or less the general consensus on where to find the best Papusas' within the 5 boroughs.
Get ready to drool though because all you'll see are great mouth watering pics along with praise after praise, but just like the way of The Shake Shack, now that the word is out how good it is, expect long ass lines to feed your withdrawal.
Baltimore style Pit Beef in NYC area?
Just had my first Pit Beef experience @ Chaps driving back to NY this weekend, turned out to be my anniversary dinner too :)
I was hoping to find out if any CH'ers know of any Pit Beef style places in Manhattan, the Boroughs or even the Island.
Grilled Corned Beef? Bottom Round? Turkey? They did it all and it was great now I need some close to home, Thanks!
Best BBQ in Charlotte? First time visit next week [moved from Mid-Atlantic board
I can't deny that the discussion has come up, The more and more time I spend up here in NYC, where I've lived my whole life, as 30 is creeping closer and closer the ideas of moving to SD, Atl or Charlotte have come up, it's no secret how good of a place Charlotte is, and has been growing and the cost of living up here is and has been way to much over the past few years, that mixed in with the fact my fathers second marriage and a flock of siblings that are 20 years younger than I am and then some, makes moving to Charlotte that much more enticing, but I am a foodie, big time, and this quick trip down there is definately going to tell me if the area is a place I could enjoy living in or not.
Thanks for the tips SI.
Best BBQ in Charlotte? First time visit next week [moved from Mid-Atlantic board
Thanks for the replies! I was sad to find out that Charlotte has a BBQ reputation that might be even worse than where I'm from up north! :GASP!:
I could handle some Tomato based bbq, I read some of the older threads here on the area to hear of dismal misadventures but since I may take some fam out to Carowinds, a stop off for the Q SHack may be in order, thanks again!
Best BBQ in Charlotte? First time visit next week [moved from Mid-Atlantic board
Most of my immediate family just moved north of Charlotte in Mooresville, NC a month ago. So, now I'm going to make a short unannounced 3 day trip down there next week and need to know where to eat!
Being born and raised in NYC my BBQ ventures have been limited but It's only forced me to learn how to smoke some bbq myself, however there's no substitution for the real thing, ofcourse.
I'm a fan of the vinegar based eastern sauce, my girl loves the mustard based version for her pork. I'm open to suggestions and will only have maybe 2 meal opportunities to cash in and get some grub, but I'm willing to drive out of the way if it's worth it.
Thanks in advance everyone!
MUST EATS? near rt.28 Margaretteville/Catskills Park/Kingston area?
On a whim I hit up Winchell's Pizza in Shokan yesterday on the way home, pretty damn good deep dish pizza, awefully dough-y in a great way, crust was good. had the bbq sampler platter, brisket was a lil over cooked chicken was good and ribs were crusty a lil over cooked but smokey and I was surprised by how good the place was considering I always pass it on 28 but never went in until now, it just might be a spot I hit more often on my way upto Highmount.

Bread pudding?
3 Brothers Butcher on Bell Blvd in Bayside, Queens does a great bread Pudding as well as some quality bbq all for take out.
MUST EATS? near rt.28 Margaretteville/Catskills Park/Kingston area?
I tried Hickory on my way up there a month ago.
Im a big BBQ snob and so is my girl, she didn't care for their pork or their weekend special fried chicken. The pulled pork was definitely underseasoned however it still pretty much hit the spot and I'd definitely go back.
MUST EATS? near rt.28 Margaretteville/Catskills Park/Kingston area?
My finance's family owns a house up in the catskills past Margaretteville in Bell Ayre Village, I tend to spend quite a bit of time up there in the summer, however solid eating options? There are only a handful I know of between Peekamoose, and ofcourse Sweet Sue's Phoenicia.
So, do any of the great and famed Chowhounders have any solid reco's to hit up once you get off the Thruway @ Kingston going West? I'd love to start checking out some different places up there.
Thanks!
Rice Ball Truck on 55th (Park and Mad)
Sorry you feel that way Sam, I checked out the truck yesterday around 2 pm. Unfortunately he was out of rice balls, the Chicken Roll was good and the fried meatballs were great too. The Garlic Knots were a bit hard, so perhaps your slice had been out in the heat a bit to long? because I'll be honest I can be a pizza snob and while I didn't have any of his pizza it sure as hell smell like a damn good slice was in that truck.
Food at Carolines on Broadway, anyone been?
Get ready to feel like you left prison after eating @ Carolines. They know that once you're in the door, as if the 2 drink minimum wasn't bad enough, the food prices are inflated too. I've had some appetizers there over the years and nothing out of the ordinary bar food type stuff.
I mean you won't starve there but I never felt like I got my moneys worth.
