FOOD MARKET - SOUTHBANK CENTRE SQUARE [London]

I thought their baked goods were pretty great. I am hoping they become one of the 'permenant' stands.

Moving to London - Where to live for a die-hard foodie?

Hey Brian:

I am the one who asked the question in the link below. I have since moved to London and am really enjoying. Certainly a different food scene than NYC (I lived in Hells Kitchen). I have moved to Marylebone, which I quite like. I work long hours, and there are many dining options. The local markets stay open until 10pm. Marylebone High Street has a great butcher and cheesemonger. I do enjoy Borough Market (early in the AM), which is an easy tube ride away. Crazy as it may seem, a 1 bedroom in Marylebone for £400pw is considered a good deal, so best of luck with your search. If you have any further questions, please let me know via a personal email. Would be happy to share my learnings. Good luck!

Cheese Vendors @ Borough Market

Was at Borough Market today and noted that most of my favourite cheese vendors were missing. I asked one of the vendors there, and he said that most of the cheese vendors had been "sacked". Anyone know the story?

Moving to London

Thanks everyone for the info. I will be working in Canary Wharf- and am hoping to move somewhere within easy commuting distance...

Moving to London

I am moving for work from Manhattan (NYC) to London next month. I am a bit of a foodie, and take advantage of a great deal of take out/delivery food and gourmet supermarket (preapred foods) options in NYC. Are there any specific good "foodie" neighborhoods you can recommend? Are there some neighborhoods with more carry out/delivery options? Are there gourmet markets that stay open late in the evenings?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Cookies for Holiday Party

I need to buy cookies for a holiday party for 80. Are there any bakers preparing smaller (and hopefully cheaper) versions of bouchon bakery, Momofuku Milk Bar, Levain type/quality cookies? Any help/suggestions would be appreciated!

Momofuku Bakery - Milk Bar - what to eat

For me the answer to that question always involves asking about your salt sensitivity. If you like/react well to salt, pretty much everything is great. Cookies are so buttery that the bag decomposed on the walk home. Very decadent and delicious- especially if you like the sweet/salt combo.

REVIEW: Angelo's Coal Oven Pizza

Das Ubergeek:

I think I remember your postings from the LA board. I have been in NY for a few years living in Midtown West, and have found finding good pizza midtown not as easy as one would assume (in LA I think the general assumption- perpetuated mainly from NY transplants- is that there is a great slice on every corner). I find Angelos and John's (nn 44th) the best of the delivery-friendly options. I have to say, though, I do sometimes miss Casa Bianca, my pizza of choice in LA. Hope that you are enjoying your NY time, and exploring the many food options NY has to offer (though none include the simple beauty of an In and Out burger).

123 Burger shot and beers

I've been a few times... It's a bar. I am not sure, conceptually, that's where you want to have a sweet sixteen. The burgers are a good deal (at $1), the beer okay ($2) but the shots seemed pretty weak ($3).

Have fun!

POTATO BALL (PAPA RELLENA)

Missing my favorite cuban bakery, Portos, in Los Angeles. Anyone know anyplace in NYC that has potato balls or other cuban bakery goods?

Magnolia-midtown

I agree with you. Went last week and bought the worst cupcakes ever. Frosting tasted like biting into a sugar cube. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt as it has only been open for only a few weeks. I don't remember the Magnolia on Bleeker being quite this bad....

best dishes with BACON in manhattan?

Bacon/Cheddar/Sage Scone at Bouchon Bakery. It seriously rocks!

Best weekend brunch above 42nd st - no not norma's

I really like the brunch at Telepan.

Teriyaki burgers - where? Kool Bloo?

I recently wrote a post asking the same thing. I was told Kool Bloo and Big Nick's. I tried the one at Big Nick's and found it lacking. If you try Kool Bloo and it is good, please post.

Thanks!

What do you love best about your neighborhood, food-wise?

Love the neighborhood too. Which pizza spot do you favor?

Best Bastilla (B'stilla)

Love the dish but not a fan of the pomp and circumstance associated with a lot of Morrocan restaurants. Where is there great Bastilla without the belly dancers, musicians, dogs and ponies?

Best fried chicken?

I had the fried chicken at Delicatessen (Prince and Lafayette) on Sunday. 1/4 chicken is served in a bucket along with a biscuit and a ranch-buttermilk dipping sauce. I thought it was the best fried chicken I have had in NYC. The server said it is the #1 item on the menu. Actually, everyhting we ordered there was great. Good luck!

Lower Manhattan spot for a group?

I would recommend one of the Stone Street places. The outdoor tables are great for a group, the weather is beautiful and all of the restaurants are easy to get into on Sat night.

Teriyaki Burger

Does anyone know where one can find a teriyaki burger with grilled pineapple in Manhattan?

Solo diner in Manhattan for Thanksgiving Day

Last year I went to Roy's in the Financial District by myself. I sat at their Chef's Table area (the counter facing the kitchen, and it was not uncomfortable at all, and was actually fun to interact with the chefs (as a biproduct got to taste alot of dishes that I did not order).

Garlic bread?

I recently tried the garlic bread served with warm pesto cream at the Ivy Bistro in Tribeca. I think I am trying to decide if it is either amazing or disgusting (like many rich and decadent things). I think I am leaning towards loving it, and recommend trying it none the less.

Chilies en Nogada

La Cabinita on Verdugo in North Glendale.

Enjoy!

Anywhere have deviled eggs on UES?

Not exactly UES, but Blue Smoke has tasty deviled eggs.

Lombardi's Delivery to Financial District/BPC

I live in the culinary wasteland of the financial district/west of Broadway. Unfortunately, Adrianne's Pizza Bar will not deliver to my neighborhood. The other day I thought I saw a delivery guy from Lombardi's. Does anyone know if they deliver down to the financial district/Battery Park City? Any other recommendations for delivered pizza south of the WTC?

Shake Shack-What Am I Missing?

I agree with the comments. A recent transplant from LA, I waited for over 1 hour for an "OK" burger in a grease soaked bun. Someday In N Out will make it to the east coast and then Shake Shack will become just another overpriced snack bar in a really nice park.

Egg Roll Santa Monica Mall in the 80's

Any other locals who grew p in SM/Venice in the 80's. I still dream about the big (size of a burrito), yummy egg rolls served in the food court of the Santa Monica Place in the 80's. Anyone else remember these? Granted I was a teen at the time, but they seemed really amazing. At some point the chinese consession changed hands. Anyone know what happened to the owners? Anyone know anywhere else in LA to get big, delicious eggrolls?
