BBQ in Atlanta
Fox Brothers, Daddy D's or Harold's.
Fox Brothers is real quality BBQ without the "authentic" ambiance.
Daddy D's is also quality BBQ WITH the authentic ambiance. Its safe, but seedy.
Harold's is not the best BBQ in Atlanta, but is still very good, and the most authentic BBQ experience still in Atlanta. 60 plus years in the same building.
All will require transportation...
email me at marchthird at hotmail dot com maybe Ill drive.. you buy lunch...
Christmas Dinner in Atlanta????
I would suggest City Grill or Daileys.. sister restaurants downtown.

One Day in Atlanta
The Amtrak Station is just a touch north of Midtown, however you will learn that public transportation in Atlanta is severely lacking. The 23 bus will pick you up at the station and take you south to the Art Center Station. Little 5 points is the most eclectic part of town. You can ride the subway to the inman park/reynolds town station then the 6 bus to L5P on Moreland south of North avenue. Couple of hours of walking around here. The 23 bus you started on will take you North and South on Peachtree... if you want to have a fantastic meal with drinks, I would suggest Holeman and Finch which is north on Peachtree. For a really unique evening, right across the street from the amtrak station is the Viking Cook Store, they have cooking classes most of the week. Look for a hands on where you will cook a gourmet dinner then sit and eat your meal on a nicely set table with a wine pairing..

ATL -- Downtown/ Midtown recs?
Les Fleur De Lis Cafe 57 Forsyth St NW. Call first. This is a lunch Recommendation and their hours are a bit strange if at all.
Thumbs Up Diner for breakfast. You can get here via taxi if you want to go to the in town location but you can walk to the East Point location on the Marta and walk about two blocks... well worth the effort. http://www.thumbsupdiner.com/
City Grill is a bit upscale/ Daileys has a dessert wall not to be missed... same owner and she puts an emphasis on quality food great service and good wine.
http://www.daileysrestaurant.com/ both web sites can link from here.
you are within walking distance from No Mas Cantina... If anyone recommends it to you, you can disregard ALL of thier suggestions. avoid it.
Cheap Eats in Atlanta
Both Excellent recommendations, however, dont expect to see many "american girl" shoppers represented... Expect a bunch of Tattoos and Piercings on some great people eating great food.
BBQ in Atlanta ?
Fatt Matt's....... NO. Yuppie destination for soccer moms looking to go to a place in a "seedy" neighborood for a good "ethnic" BBQ Joint... Fatt Matts is neither.
Daddy D''s........ Yes. What Yuppie Soccer Moms think Fatt Matts is.
Harold's............ Yes. Only real BBQ experience in Atlanta. The Q is not better than Daddy D's, however, the whole experience is the best in Georgia.
Fox Bros........... Yes. Good solid BBQ. A bit sterile on the BBQ Joint side but still a good meal.
Mexican in Atlanta (not NL or TdS)
Im wrong. Los Reyes is right off the end of the runway at PDK on Chamblee Tucker right about halfway between Buford Hwy and New Peachtree. Most authentic Tacos in Atlanta. Have the Tacos Al Pastor with onions and cilantro only...(squeeze of fresh lime juice) it will change your idea of what a taco really is..
Mexican in Atlanta (not NL or TdS)
There is good Mexican food in Atlanta. Nuevo Laredo and Taqueria del Sol are good places to eat... they are not mexican. (NL is a bit closer but still....). Here are some recommendations.
East Point Main Street...El Rocio just south of the marta station.
Memorial Drive..............Mi Barrio
Ashford Dunwoody Rd...Los Reyes Taqueria
Buford Hwy...................Just pick a place.
Any of these places look like hell on the outside and serve closer to authentic Mexican food than anything else Ive seen recommended here. It'll help if you speak a bit of spanish.
Taste of Atlanta
Looks like about 10 percent decent restaurants, 90 percent chains. I avoid Atlantic Station like its an Appleby's. What do you like to eat and we will steer you the right direction?
Maryland-style crab shack near Atlanta?
Try Spondivits but expect to be a bit disappointed. Its quality food, clean but a bit pricey, and if you have had the chance to eat really good crabs on the east coast somewhere, you will probably not be super impressed.. Closest you will get in atlanta.
http://spondivits.net/
Its a very popular place to eat and Ive never been disappointed...just never had my socks knocked off either.
Good Food near Georgia Aquarium?
http://www.rosaspizza.net/Rosas_Maps.Pizza
This is a link to Rosas pizza which is really good NY style pizza by the slice, but more importantly, Broad Street is walking distance from the Aquarium and has Rosas, Rubens Deli, and a small hand full of different restaurants with outside seating (ok, plastic lawn chairs and tables). Chinese, Vietnamese, and others... guaranteed to find something the kids will like.
Oktoberfest in Helen, GA/Rec's from Atlanta to Ashville
Hold your expectations for Helen low. Its a cute town that straddles a nice mountain stream and does have some small semblance of a German town, but only because the town fathers sat down and decided on a marketing strategy for the town a few decades ago and set out with some gingerbread and lederhosen to make it happen. Its a fun time but not authentic.
Its a haul to Atlanta from there. If you want to make the drive I would suggest dim sum at the Oriental Pearl.. Its on the side of atlanta that youre approaching from.

Atlanta Airport
Sitdown at Paschals on terminal C. Wall Street Deli has good sandwiches but is almost always filthy. The Bookstore Deli on B or E are clean and serve a nice selection of salads/sandwiches.
You will not have time to exit security, eat, and get back to your flight in three hours... at least not eat somewhere that you cant get to inside security anyway.
There is a Moes burrito place on C thats pretty good to..
Keep in mind that by definition, it will all be airport food.
Atlanta Fine Dining: Birthday Celebration
I highly recommend floataway creek. Its actually part of the bacchanalia family (didn't realize that till I went looking for a link) with a modern feel and always fresh menu.

Business Dinner/Meeting downtown-Atlanta
http://www.citygrillatlanta.com/
Fabulous food/service and wine in an old marble bank/hotel lobby. A bit more upscale but with private dining. Walk a few blocks, Quck Cab ride, or two subway stops from GCC.
http://www.daileysrestaurant.com/
Their sister restaurant. A little less expensive. Equally fantastic food/service and a Dessert "wall" that is not to be believed.
Atlanta eats
Daileys and City Grill you can walk to. Also look for Les Fleur De Lis Cafe.. best french in the city and very reasonably priced... true bistro feel.
Japanese Food in Atlanta?
Nakato on cheshire bridge road.. stay off the Hibachi side and on the sushi side.
or Umezono in marietta... bit farther but very authentic
Moving to Atlanta - Need to find the following
Follow up post.... Taqueria Del Sol is great food... but the only thing in the place that is mexican is the salsa...beyond that its about as authentic mexican as taco bell..
Moving to Atlanta - Need to find the following
1. Mi Barrio on Memorial... authentic mexican but the best mexican food in atlanta is inside of I-285 on Buford Hwy. (just pick any place) true authentic stuff... not the americanized suggestions in most of the other replies.
2. Camellis in the Ford Factory lofts on Ponce De Leon
3.RuSans on piedmont for cheap sushi, Nakato on Cheshire Bridge Rd. for higher end stuff
4 good luck
5.Silver Skillet on 14th st. best southern breakfast. Thumbs Up for a little more artsy.
6. Caribou several locations
7. Cafe Intermezzo on Ponce
8. Vortex on Peachtree or Morland. NoteL Miss Annes Snack Bar has the best burger in the country (WSJ) but is in a part of town you need to acclimate yourself to atlanta for a while before you venture into.
