Private Dinner Dining UES - Italian

Thank you so much, Peter. I will look into both options.

Private Dinner Dining UES - Italian

I need some (a lot) of help picking a perfect restaurant location for my grandmother's 80th birthday celebration. Location wise, the restaurant must be from the low 50s to the upper 60s and from 6th avenue to 2nd avenue. I am ideally looking to find a really authentic/good Italian restaurant with a great wine list (ie Canaletto or Bottego de Vino). Also, a private room or sectioned off area would be ideal considering we are a group of 12. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you very much in advance.

What red wine to use for marninating a rack of lamb

I ended up using a dijon mustard/herb rub and I couldn't have been happier with the results.

Cheap Eats: Outdoor Scene in NYC

Loreley Biergarten may be the kind of place you are looking for. Not only do they have great beers, but their food is great too. And, of course, they have an outdoor seating area.

What red wine to use for marninating a rack of lamb

Ok. So, I went to the wine store and was given the recommendation to use a 2002 Thomas Coyne merlot (I asked for a medium body red wine). Bad move. The wine was way too acidic for the meat. Luckily, the lamb itself came out so fabulously and was juicy enough that it didn't need any extra juice so I just dumped it down the drain.

Thank you for your suggestions.

New to NYC - looking for advice on Midtown East/Sutton/Turtle Bay area?

As for grocery shopping, you have hit all of the options in the area. I try to get down to the union square market on the wknds for produce.

The best coffee shop in the area, in my opinion, is Orchard House Coffee Shop on 1st Ave and 58th. That is my wknd go-to and it is always reliable. I know you can buy beans there too. Financier is also an option (at 53rd and 1st) although you cant buy beans there. They do have great desserts as well.

I hope this helps.

Thanks! Very helpful. I'll let you know what I come up with and how it all goes.

What red wine to use for marninating a rack of lamb

All fair comments and am going to go with your suggestions. Dijon/herb topping it is. However, thoughts on using a red wine to reduce down post-roasting remnants to make a juice?

What red wine to use for marninating a rack of lamb

Does anyone have a particular recommendation for a type, or even specific bottle, of red wine to use for marinating a rack of lamb (French cut)? The lamb is being served with roasted brussel sprouts and garlic mashed potatoes if that makes any difference. Any thoughts would be helpful as this is new territory for me. Thanks in advance!

BEST BAGELS IN NYC

I have been to Tal 3 times and they have yet to get my order correct. Maybe I am just unlucky but them seem so disorganized behind the counter.

Low-Key Italian for the In-Laws

Canaletto on East 60th is fabulous. The pasta there is to die for. I would absolutely recommend it for your short list.

I would definitely recommend lunch at The Modern after a morning at the spa.

ISO Custom Cake Bakery

I am looking to get a custom cake made for my brother's birthday next weekend. We will be celebrating his birthday while watching his college FBall team (UMich...Go Blue!) play OSU at a bar and I would like the cake to be designed with the Michigan game in mind (think cake in shape of Michigan M, with blue and maize colors)

Does anyone know of a GREAT custom cake shop in Manhattan? Price is not an issue.

Thanks in advance.

Free-Range

I am open to any/all cuisines. Any restaurants that stick out in particular? Top 5?

I have been there on a few occasions but every time I have gone it has been with a member. I believe you must be with a member to dine, however I am not totally sure.
