Abe & Louie's sounds interesting. Better than New York Prime? I am very flexible with my budget, and would spend up to $300 for the two of them for dinner.

Please help me send my parents to an unforgettable meal in Boca Raton!

They will be staying at the Wyndham in Boca Raton (1950 Glades Rd.) for 10 days and I would like to buy them dinner at a very nice and memorable restaurant relatively close by that they would not otherwise splurge on. They will be renting a car, so recommendations within a 20 minute drive are welcome.

My only caveat is that they do not have the most exotic palates, with their favorite cuisines being Italian, New American, seafood and steakhouses. Any recommendations are appreciated!

Walkable restaurant recs needed from Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children

Went back to Jimbos today for more curry udon and realized I have covered a lot of ground since my last post.

I tried I-Naba the other night. Again, another great call. Homemade soba, with wild porcini and hen of the wood mushrooms. Really outstanding.

I have also tried the garlic steak roll at Tae's Teppanyaki and the teriyaki steak at the Ono to Go food truck. Both were good, but the Ono to Go gets the nod here. Ono's steak was also tastier than its chicken.

Finally, I brought in Mediterraneo last night. We had the caprese salad, the procini crostini and the lobster ravioli. Maybe a New Yorker should not get Italian in Honolulu, because while the caprese was passable, the garlic on the crostini rendered it inedible and the ravioli were extremely oversauced. Lesson learned.

I will continue to report on my upcoming ventures. Thanks again for the recommendations!

Walkable restaurant recs needed from Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children

i have been eating my way through all of your suggestions. Last night I went to Mekong II and ordered the Evil Jungle Price with chicken (medium spice). Really interesting dish. I have never eaten anything like it, especially with the liberal use of the cabbage and the delicious sauce that worked really well with the sticky rice.

Tonight I went to Jimbos and ordered curry udon with corn. Maybe the best thing I have eaten thus far in my 10 days in Honolulu. The noodles were unquestionably homeade. The curry was well flavored without being overwhelming in taste or smell, and it was one of the better bowls of udon I have ever eaten.

Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions. I will continue to work my way through your recommendations, albeit having to do so while on a "take out" basis and returning to eat in the hospital for the next two months.

I just ate loving hut pho for dinner. Overall very good. The broth was delicious and the noodles were outstanding. The abundance of Thai basil was especially welcome. My main suggestion for improvement is that the faux meat in the pho (spam) was unnecessary and not welcome, but otherwise it was quite good. I will continue to provide my thoughts as I try other suggestions. Thanks all!

Thanks for the posts! I plan on getting pho this evening and will be sure to let you know my thoughts.

I am a NY hound who just found out I will be at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children for the next 1-2 months in Honolulu. This is my first time in Hawaii. I will not have a car while I am here. I am interested in any places for any meal, with special interest in local places of interest. I would like any place within a one mile walk of the Center. Thank you in advance for all of your recs!

72 Hours in Charlotte: I Need Neighborhood Recs!!

These are very helpful suggestions. I suspect our mornings will be filled with dining out at various breakfast venues, so all of your suggestions for quality nearby breakfast recommendations are most appreciated. Other than that, thanks again for all of your neighborhood gems. I suspect we will try out many of them. Please keep 'em coming and I will report back when I return early next week!

72 Hours in Charlotte: I Need Neighborhood Recs!!

Thanks for the post. I will definitely look at this link and the others on this board. Price's looks good as well. Any other local favorites that might not have been previously discussed? Any "must tries" before leaving Charlotte?

72 Hours in Charlotte: I Need Neighborhood Recs!!

I will be in Charlotte this upcoming weekend and will be meeting friends coming in from around the country. We will be staying at the Aloft Charlotte Uptown at the EpiCentre.

I am looking for recommendations for can't miss places. Any and all meals are welcome (breakfast through dinner). We would actually prefer local gems rather than 5-star places. We are willing to drive upwards of 20 minutes outside the city, but anything within the city limits is a plus. Many thanks for all recommendations!

What's good near the Landmark Sunshine movie theater?

I ended up grabbing food at Bereket, a Turkish kebob place on Houston. I was able to bring the food into the theater, which was necessary because I was very tight on time. The food was actually quite tasty and I would certainly return (at least for take out).

What's good near the Landmark Sunshine movie theater?

I am going to Landmark movie theater for a 7:30pm show tonight. Anyone have a suggestion for a place nearby where I can grab some food "to go" to bring in to the theatre?

Group dinner in Westhampton

I am catching up with about 15 of my oldest friends in a few weeks in Westhampton and we are staying in a hotel on Dune Road. We are looking for a nearby Saturday night dinner place where we can get a private room for a good part of the night. While good food is a bonus, a private room is a near prerequisite. Any recommendations?

In search of THE best Lasagna

I ate at Manetta's in Long Island City last night and happened to have their lasagna. Old school traditional meat lasagna. The meat is done bolognese style. The pasta (at least the lasagna) is homemade. All in all, outstanding, and incredibly affordable.

Last minute Chinatown group dinner?

dinner has been postponed for one week. now i have more time to sort out the options. i will definitely start out with those that you recommended and go from tehre. will let you know what we decide.

Last minute Chinatown group dinner?

No particular requirements. Someone had suggested Peking Duck House, but no final decisions have been made yet.

Last minute Chinatown group dinner?

I have six of us scheduled to have dinner in Chinatown tomorrow night and have yet to make a reservation. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a last-minute affordable option?

Macao Trading Co

Thanks to everyone for their Macao reviews and posts. My fiance and I went to Macao last night for a 7pm dinner. She drank a Dragon's Milk cocktail which was really quite innovative (and should be for $14) and had a glass of a Greek rose (pass on this), while I had two Belgium ambers that were quite good.

We split the Portugese lamb meatballs, the artichoke and fennel salad and the fried goat cheese appetizers. The lamb meatballs was by far the standout, and quite frankly, it is the red sauce which makes them so great. The fried goat cheese was a strong #2, though again the grilled onions and red peppers which accompany the goat cheese make the dish. I would not rcommend the fennel salad, as somehow Macao found a way to make a salad with interesting ingredients taste bland and forgettable.

For the main course, we split the steamed Chinese sea bass and sides of swiss chard and fried race with bacalao. The sea bass was tastier than expected, though, as with the lamb meatballs and fried goat cheese, I thought most of the flavor of the dish came from the sauce (I believe hoisin) on which the entree sat rather than the fish itself. The swiss chard with currants and pine nuts was quite tasty (I expect it was doused in butter) and the fried rice was certainly better than average (the bacalo was a great twist to the dish).

Finally, we each had a coffee (very good and strong) and split the churros dessert with chocolate on the side, maybe one of the top dishes of the night.

Overall, I would not return to Macao to eat. It has a great scene, and the service was quite attentative, and, while the food is reasonably priced, it just is not that tasty. I would have a tough time returning knowing that Landmarc is right up the road or Chinatown is a short walk away.

Macao Trading Co

I am going in a few hours. Thanks to everyone who has weighed in. Does anyone have any more insight since these posts from December?

Mexican Restaurant in Chelsea

I thought I read that a new Mexican restaurant in Chelsea recently opened but I cannot recall the name. Has anyone else heard this? Does anyone have any recommendations for a quality affordable Mexican restaurant in the Chelsea / Hells Kitchen area? Thanks!

Co. - new pizzeria place by Lahey open?

Has anyone seen a menu yet?

First Time at Norma's

Thanks to all for replying to my original post. We went to Norma's yesterday and it was advertised. First the positives. The food is quite good. I had the bfast quesadilla with scrambled eggs, guac, bacon and pico de gallo. My fiance tried the eggs benedict. Both were good. The former was much bigger and probably could have been split by two people. I also wish the quesadilla itself was grilled rather than seemingly being fried. The coffee and orange were both tasy, but again at $7 and $9 respectively (with refills). Overall, brunch for 2 was $100 with tip. It was quite nice for a special occassion, but food wise is in my mind no better than Essex, which is about 1/3 of the cost. Thanks again!

First Time at Norma's

I will be having brunch at Norma's in Le Parker Meridien for the first time on Sunday and am very excited. Any recommendations on what to try or what to stay away from? Thanks!

Affordable restaurant that could comfortably accomodate a party of 50?

Looking to have my rehearsal dinner in Manhattan for about $50/pp. Should be around fifty people attending. We are flexible on location as well as type of cuisine, but not on quality. Any suggestions?

Midtown Brunch With the Parents and Inlaws

Looking for an affordable brunch spot for this Saturday to take the parents and inlaws. Specifically, anywhere walkable from any midtown stop on the E line and takes reservations is preferable.
