Waterfront dining

I know this is the Outer Boroughs board (and I do live in Brooklyn!) but I would recommend the Liberty View Chinese Restaurant in Battery Park City. They have a large, reasonably priced menu with outdoor seating right on the Hudson River Promenade.

Thai Crispy Chicken Basil

So I tried Sripraphai this afternoon and it was hands down the best Thai food that I've had in NYC. The food was absolutely delectable and I am thrilled to report that the crispy basil pork is exactly what I wanted (I'm sure they could have done chicken but I just decided to go with the pork instead). The other things my friend and I shared were the crispy catfish salad, drunken noodles, and crab and pork rolls. I will definitely be back!

Turkish Delight

You can purchase Turkish Delight at the candy counter of Whole Foods Market on Houston Street in the LES. The F, V, and 6 trains have stops practically right outside the store.

Widmark: I realize I credited you instead of him/her, so thank you, hatless!

Thai Crispy Chicken Basil

Wow. That's right near where I live and I believe is the only Thai restaurant around there that I have not tried! Thanks for the info.

Disappointed at Da Andrea

My grilled calamari appetizer was pretty bad. My friend tried it and agreed. Needless to say, we just put it aside and didn't even continue to eat it; it didn't taste fresh at all. With that said, my pasta dish was pretty good and the service was prompt and friendly.

Artichoke Pizza-the Secret

Worthy of a comparison to DiFara? I will have to try this square slice ASAP!

Thank you everyone for the replies! I will have to try I Am Thai and Poodam out in Queens. I will give you guys an update and let you know if this is what I'm looking for.

Thai Crispy Chicken Basil

Widmark: thank you so much. The crispy pork basil (maybe I could substitute the crispy chicken for that) seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. The funny thing is that I never had to ask for "extra hot" or give special instructions to get it spicy like I have to do pretty much EVERYWHERE in NYC. I guess the business owners here just play it safe and cater to a more European/Western palate unless the customer specifies otherwise.

BUSY CHEF, BLUE PIG ICE CREAM, OVEN, PERMANENTLY CLOSED

The one around the corner from me on Court and State is closed too. I will miss Busy Chef; it seems like it just opened!

Conch Fritters

I have the same question! I grew up in the tropics and ate them as a child. I would love to know a place in NYC where I could find good ones.

Thai Crispy Chicken Basil

Thanks for the replies so far. I really haven't found really spicy Thai food here in NYC and I have eaten at a variety of places. Whenever I have ordered the Kra Prow, the chicken is not fried and even though it may be described as "spicy," to my palate it is very mild and tastes quite different than the variation I described in my original post. Do you think that I could request that they fry the chicken pieces and then make it EXTRA spicy at Sripraphai?

Artichoke Pizza-the Secret

The artichoke pizza is overrated in my opinion. It is neither especially flavorful nor original. The regular pizza has been inconsistent: I tried it once and it was mediocre; I tried it last night coming home from a bar at 1:30 AM and it was very flavorful and good - nice mix of herbs and spices in the sauce and fresh basil as the topping. I took a bite of my friend's crab pizza and it was nothing special. Overall, I'd go back for the regular pizza but not for anything else.

Thai Crispy Chicken Basil

I have been living in New York for about a year now and have yet to find the delicious and spicy crispy chicken basil that is served at one of my favorite Thai restaurants in Boston. The name of the restaurant is Nud Pob and it is right across the street from Boston University on Commonwealth Avenue. If anyone has eaten this dish and can recommend to me a place ANYWHERE in New York City where I can find it, I will be extremely grateful! I have had some good Thai meals here in NYC but have never found anything that resembles the tantalizingly spicy and flavorful dish for which I am searching. Thank you in advance.
