From CHOW: What should we feature next in the NY CHOW Report?
Foie. Gras. Doughnut. At Do Or Dine in Brooklyn.
Continuing the foie gras kick, the foie gras grilled cheese and tomato soup at M. Wells.
On the casual front, the braised shortrib sandwich at Cheeky's Sandwiches in Dekalb Market are killer. Horseradish sauce, cherry tomatoes, arugula, grilled challah, and juicy fall-apart shortribs.
Signature dishes of various places in NY
Have you been to Bouchon Bakery? Skip the sit down part and get yourself a vanilla macaroon, chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies, and even a raspberry almond croissant.

[Most affordable] Kitchen supply stores?
So I know NYC has kitchen/restaurant/baking supply stores galore, but I haven't had the time to check them all out. Has anyone done any price comparison shopping to see which one is the cheapest? Or which store has the best variety for decent prices?
I'd love to find a place where I can get everything from a meat and/or candy thermometer, standard ramekins, even decent pans. There are a lot of little things that as I cook and bake more in my kitchen, I realize I'm lacking. I live in Brooklyn but am always up for going anywhere in NYC.
Katz's--A Disaster
I've only been to Katz's once, but when you get the fatty, nasty pastrami (which I got without even asking), it's so damn good.
french macaroons
I know this is an obvious choice, but Bouchon Bakery's macaroons are so delicious. I don't know how they compare to France, but wow are they good.

Affordable, fresh spices - where do you shop?
Oooh, International looks great. I've been to Kalustyan's but didn't think they had loose spices? Maybe I just didn't explore. Since I'm on the A/C line, the west side of Manhattan is easier to get to anyway. Might be time to check out International Grocery. :D
Affordable, fresh spices - where do you shop?
Normally, Sahadi's would be the place I would go for such needs, but I'm currently searching for somewhere in Manhattan or Brooklyn that sells affordable spices by the ounce/pod. I don't need that much but I need a few different things, so I'd rather be able to buy just what I need. Suggestions?
Boneless, skinless chicken thighs
So I picked up some b/s thighs at Trader Joe's a while ago, stuck them in the freezer, and just remembered them. So I have them unthawing now. I'm looking for some good recipes or tips on what to do with these?
I'm sort of in the mood for something spicy, sweet, asian flavors. But I want to avoid frying and anything too high in fat. What really sounds good is a non-fried General Tso's chicken recipe. Can anyone help me out?
If you don't have any good asian suggestions, I'm open to other options, as well. I'll probably end up doing two different dishes out of these, anyway!
