Closest Fishmonger to Back Bay/Beacon Hill

I've stopped buying fish at Whole Foods on Cambridge St. I bought it several times, and it was hit or miss in terms of freshness. The seafood area in that store is not managed well - they should simply buy less seafood, and display less, to better match what they are selling.

If I want fresh fish, I go the Whole Foods in Cambridgeport.

It's more of a competent place to go if you're looking for something in that area, rather than someplace to go out of your way to go to.

Since you'll be here Sunday and Monday, be sure to check the hours for places you're planning to go to make sure they're open for the meals you are after.

Also, you might want to say where you're coming from, so people don't recommend something you could get better back home. Texas?

Franklin Cafe and Helmand are long time favorites. Not so with Addis. But there are some great restaurants in the South End, seems not to be on your radar, maybe because it's off the tourist trail ... but it's very close to your hotel. Much better value for money at every price point than the Back Bay, IMO.

Harvard Sq:
- Tamarind Bay, Indian in a nice room, 75 Winthrop St.
- Don't know what they do for lunch at Upstairs on the Square but worth checking on

Summer Shack for New York friend?

Good suggestion, but don't say it's better than Pearl as that's just inviting disappointment ... but it's a WAY better bet than Summer Shack
