Results - Eye of Round Roast from Cook's Illustrated Recipe

I'm getting ready to try this tomorrow. Question: Can I sear and roast this in a Dutch oven? Do I need to put it on a rack?

braised short rib recipe question from a really lazy cook

so, in this recipe-- http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/br... says to first brown the ribs in a skillet and then pull the out and then put the veggies in, cook them down, add the ingredients for the marinade and then pour over the ribs.

then they're supposed to sit overnight and then be transferred to a dutch oven and braised in the oven for a couple hours.

my question: can i brown the ribs WITH the veggies, then add the marinade ingredients and bring to a boil, let cool and then braise in the oven after refrigerating overnight?

MUST-BUYS at the ferry building farmer's market? [San Francisco]

when we went, it was on tuesday and there was plenty to see. for what it's worth, after finally getting to experience it firsthand, if i could only go to one place there, it would be recchiuti chocolates. i like chocolate a lot, but i'm not sure i would say i'm a chocoholic...which means that i'm not just saying i'd go back there b/c i just will eat any chocolate, but b/c it was the most exquisite chocolate i've ever had.

MUST-BUYS at the ferry building farmer's market? [San Francisco]

Thank you all for your fantastic help! You're right, it's not a place for someone on a budget (my DH got mad at me b/c I blew $80 in under 20 mins.), but it was TOTALLY worth it!! I splurged on Rechiutti Chocolates and am now officially hooked (all the tea chocolates, lavender vanilla, burnt caramel, which ironically, tastes less burnt than their fleur de sel--alll AMMMAAAAAZZZZING!). I'm pretty sure I've spent more on Godiva for about the same amount of chocolate and it wasn't half as good. These are EXQUISITE. Boccalone orange/fennel and brown sugar/fennel salami. Local wildflower honey with the slightest cinnamon finish at BeeKind. St. Pat (seasonal), Mt. Tam and Red Hawk cheeses at Cowgirl Creamery. I had to skip Acme, Miette and Stonehouse b/c by this time, DH had finally gotten his coffee at Blue Bottle and caught up with me and put the brakes on my spree. LOL. Sigh...this place is everything I dreamed of and more. <3

MUST-BUYS at the ferry building farmer's market? [San Francisco]

hello all,

have been dying to see this and will finally make it in the first week of april! we will not be there on a saturday, but can make the tuesday market. i know it will be smaller, but between the farmer's market and the building vendors, are there any items i must get to bring back home (we're in los angeles)?

also, i am drooling over all the places people recommend eating, JUST in this area. is it worth going to everyday? can you find great tasting food if we're on a budget? thanks in advance!

Does anyone else get a craving for sushi when you visit the aquarium?

yes totally!! it was so bad once, that after a visit to the LB aquarium, we had to drive to palos verdes to meet someone for dinner and we had to stop at a mcdonald's drive thru to get a filet-o-fish!

what to do with GIANT MARSHMALLOWS?!?!???

ok, so i was in stater bros. grocery store today and walked past these GIANT marshmallows. they're probably two or three times the size of the regular large ones that you'd put on a s'more. because i'm hosting a baby shower this weekend and because they were pink and white, i grabbed them and thought, "i'll come up with something to do with them later." because who could resist GIANT pink and white marshmallows??? well, not me apparently. anyway, i STILL don't have any good ideas and there aren't any on martha stewart or real simple or any of my other google searches. please help!!

Dinner in Glendora pre- Donut man?

i see most of these are casual joints. but if you want really good food (not that casual can't be good) for a date, i second the vote for chelsea's on lone hill and rte. 66. i believe they also have an early bird special menu. also, for the best sushi that i think rivals the ritziest places in LA (and i may kick myself for giving up this secret gem), is fusion sushi 313 on grand and arrow.

I found a really good bottled ketchup

if you have a trader joe's near you, you're in luck b/c i've found their brand to be the most 'tomatoey', also excluding that nasty high fructose corn syrup and other disgusting ingredients AND inexpensive!! i wouldn't be surprised if theirs is exactly the same as heinz organic, only made for tj's. once i tasted it, i never went back!!

Good way to doctor up jar spaghetti sauce?

although this is an old post, i'm with mamamia and bryan. although i'd enjoy rao's, i'm not about to waste it on my 4 year old who eats pasta (and everything else) while holding her nose and my 1 year old who thinks its face paint. and with them, i hardly have the energy to boil water and open a jar, if that. since i hate people who don't respond to my original post, here goes:
http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/...

i agree with the vote for barilla--i find it has about half the sugar of some of the other brands too. i also love trader joe's roasted garlic cuz it's got chunks of garlic in it.

sometimes, if i'm feeling energetic enough to cut open a bag of some frozen stuff and open a couple more jars, i'll add chicken strips, pine nuts, frozen spinach or broccoli and roasted red peppers or sundried tomatoes. and mix in some cream sauce to make it pink. not too shabby.
