Louisville kid-friendly...but not chain!
Hi there,
My wife, 17 month old son, and I are staying downtown in Louisville on July 11. We'd like your suggestions for a nice dinner, perhaps breakfast and lunch as well. We have been to a Bristol once passing through, but would like something local that isn't ridiculously expensive and won't get us dirty looks if our son makes a peep (he is usually well-behaved at meals.) Budget isn't a huge issue. Somewhere that has some "Louisville character" would be nice: cuisine type is less important to us. Thanks...and we're happy to help you with St. Louis, MO recs if you need them!
Boquerones in St. Louis?
Sorry to dig up old threads, but I thought I'd fill in since this is only a few months old...
Guido's has decent boquerones on the menu. I get them every time I go.
STL- Tex-Mex to commemorate Texas Independence Day
Well,
As as a former resident of the country to the south of us, Texas, I was wondering: what do you think the best Tex-Mex in St. Louis is? So far, I haven't found anywhere very good. I am looking for Tex-Mex, mind you, not interior Mexican (not that that is bad).
What say you, hounds?
Thanks!
Birmingham, AL wedding rehearsal dinner
Hello all,
I'm getting married in Birmingham, AL in June 2009. I'm looking for a rehearsal dinner location for around 40-50 people. From what my fiancee's folks have found out so far, it looks like mostly caterers, etc., but not a lot of reasonably priced in-house stuff. This need not be a fancy meal, but just decent quality and value. So...
1) Are caterers the only game in town, or are there some good private rooms in restaurants?
2) Is there anything downtown or toward Trussville? The wedding is at St. Paul Cathedral downtown, and people will probably be staying down there, too, so it would be great to find a site down there.
3) Any ideas on prices (i.e., what is acceptable for this area)?
I'm not from the Birmingham area, so your input is appreciated. I really enjoyed a wedding in PA this summer that just had a private room in the upstairs of a pub...classy, but fairly simple buffet style food.
Thanks!

STL-Best international groceries/where can I find San Pellegrino sodas?
Thanks, all. Sorry for the late reply; I'm hoping to get to Jay's soon. It was one of the places people have said was pretty good. Schnuck's here in SLH hasn't had this sort of thing, oddly enough (maybe I should have looked in the "fancy" food aisle). I did go up to the Hill and see some of it. Good to know where these places are. I actually drove by the Global Market the other day while in Kirkwood. Also interesting to know about the parking situation. Everywhere I have ever lived seems to have parking problems... ;-)
STL-Best international groceries/where can I find San Pellegrino sodas?
Hello everyone,
I just moved to St. Louis Hills this month. I am familiar (to a degree) with the strong Italian-American food here (which is great...I grew up in WV around a lot of that good stuff), but need some blanks filled in otherwise.
Where are good groceries (preferrably in South City, but county places or elsewhere in town in fine, too) where I can get the usual suspects (good cheeses, wines, etc.) in the area? I imagine some of the places on the Hill might be good, but just for Italian, right?
Also, how about San Pellegrino sodas (Aranciata, Limonata)? I'm moving from Austin, where there were scads of places where one could find this sort of thing. I need my fix! I appreciate the help, and am looking forward to finding all things food in St. Louis.
