Great Dallas Eats?
Coming to town this week (3 days) - wondering what places cannot be missed. A New Yorker looking for some local standouts.... Please help!?! Texmex? BBQ? Other?
An Choi - so so banh mi
IMO the best banh mi is not mentioned here.... It's a brand new spot - just opened in Williamsburg. Nha Toi (160 Havemeyer St - between S2nd St & S3rd St). The owner is unbelievably nice and very passionate about his craft. Have only tried the chicken version (he makes about 6-8 different types - some more traditional and others more creative - all around 6 bucks). Having just returned from Vietnam in January I've gotten to know good banh mi lately and all I can say is this was the real deal - stellar sandwich.
Alone in Manhattan on a Sat night / Sunday
Social:
=Barrio Chino (at the bar)
=Lil' Frankies/Frank/Supper (at the bar)
=Bread - NoLita (bar or table)
=Lovely Day Thai (bar or table)
=El Quinto Pino (bar only)
=Schillers (bar or table)
=Wine bars would seem like a good place for conversation

Stick to downtown (East Village / Lower East Side mainly) for all the cheap goods (eat/drink/dance).
BEIJING, SHANGHAI & HK - TOP 3 IN EACH??
I've searched thru all of the past recommendations on this board - thank you all for sharing your indepth accounts of the highs and lows of your recent meals in China... I have compiled many of your accounts and feel well equiped for my own eating-excursion...
That said, it would be helpful if any of you can list out your top 3 - "must-not-miss" spots in each/any of the below cities (no parameters = any price, any cuisine (hopefully not much on the western-tip))...
=Beijing
=Shanghai
=Hong Kong
I hope to share some thoughts of my own upon my return!
Late-ish dinner for 2 (10pm) - post BAM event?
Looking for a great restaurant somewhat nearby BAM (Brooklyn Acadamy of Music). Park Slope, Carol Gardens, and Ft. Greene are all OK, I think...
We like to eat virtually everything so cuisine is not much of an issue (we do tend to enjoy having some light options - fish, etc.). Pricepoint (w/ wine) is very flexible too but it would ideally be less than $70/pp.
The list of restaurants I've pulled together includes:
-Saul
-Lucali
-Al Di La
-Convivium
-Rose Water
-Applewood
-Luz
-Frankies Spuntino
-Franny's
-Joya
Any thoughts?
First time in manhattan, need comfort food
Little Giant and/or Freeman's in the Lower East Side.
Fun CELEBRATORY dinner - NYC
Thanks to everyone for the input... we wound up at Babbo. Sat immediately at the bar and had wonderful celebration.
Fun CELEBRATORY dinner - NYC
nice scene, a little more uppity - ie: ... I guess that 11 Madison could be a little stuffy actually... Too many options in this big city for someone indecisive.
Fun CELEBRATORY dinner - NYC
That's what's at the top of my list... Thanks for you input!
Fun CELEBRATORY dinner - NYC
COST - OK with anything - would like it to be upscale but not a prerequisite...
FOOD TYPE - Again, ok with mostly anything
LOCATION - Downtown (Gramercy thru LES/Tribeca) or Midtown East
Fun CELEBRATORY dinner - NYC
Looking for a great place to get dinner for 2 tonight - big celebration for someone special's promotion. Any thoughts?
Help impressing Italian visitor
In your vacinity (Beekman Tower):
1. Sushi @ Sushi Yasuda - 43rd st. or Sushi Seki - 61st st. (save your money up for this one - maybe a welcome to NYC dinner the first night near her hotel)
2. Bagels @ Ess-A-Bagel - ~50th st. (cheap - best bagel in NYC perhaps and the lox will taste the same to anyone who doesn't eat them regularly)
3. Pastrami Sandwich @ Carnagie Deli (share 2 sandwiches between you, friend and child - they're HUGE!) - 50's westside
4. Slice of NY Cheesecake @ Junior's Times Square (not the original but still fun if you're heading to Time's Sq.)
5. Dim Sum @ Dim Sum Go Go - (east broadway is chinatown in full effect)
6. Chicken & Rice @ Chicken & Rice Cart 53rd/6th SW corner (across from Hilton you'll see a line - only open from 8pm - late-night)
Other NYC foodie-tourist options - Steaks at Peter Luger's in Brooklyn; Pizza @ Grimaldi's (w/ Brooklyn Bridge/Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory Combo) or Lombardi's in NoLita; Tao (not so foodie but agree it could be fun); Brunch @ the Boathouse in Central Park; Lunch @ Pastis / Cupcakes @ Magnolia Bakery (Buttercup is your nearby option - 50's and 2nd Ave); Burgers @ Shake Shack (Burger Joint in the Parker Meridian Hotel is your nearby option); Cheapish Italian @ Lupa (near SoHo - shopping) / Il Bagatto / Frank (both East Village - boho culture + shopping)
Really important dinner for 2 - Scene, Food, want it all!
Have plans for an important (non-business) dinner later this week... need to really wow someone with a great night. Ideally want to be somewhere that has great food, great scene, not too romantic-y and all around good setting for a great time. Some of our upscale favorites include Tasting Room, Nobu, Little Giant, Il Buco... (more regulars: momofuku, bread, lovely day thai, ino, blue ribbon, etc...) we love anything small and cute with solid food.
The long list I've thought of:
-Mas (she's never been)
-Bond Street (fun)
-Babbo (she loves it here)
-Blue Hill
-Wallse
-Omen
-Gramercy Tavern
-Eleven Madison Park
-The Modern - Bar room
-Cookshop
-Balthazar
-Etats Unis (we've never been)
-Spice Market
-Prune

2 1/2 days in LA!!!
I only have 2 days in LA - looking for 2-3 solid lunch spots (sushi, burger, tacos, etc. etc.) and 2 solid dinners (anything goes - upscale or more moderate - big fan of smaller places - mediteranean food/fish/sushi/steak/interesting eclectic....)
I know that sounds like a lot, looking for a little guidance...
thanks in advance-

NYC Chowhound visits Vegas for a Bachelor Party
Thanks all - thinking N9ne and Simon's with Fix as a backup option....
Special occasion dinner - 7 people.... ?
Looking for a nice location for a 7 person dinner celebrating a birthday in December. Looking for excellent food and hoping to spend ~$100/pp max (although less expensive is obviously good too)... Private dining areas (wine cellars, etc.) are also a nice option.
NYC Chowhound visits Vegas for a Bachelor Party
Thanks - I believe we are staying at the Hard Rock so I will investigate Simon's Kitchen as that'd be convenient... I have a long list of restaurants taken off these boards/zagat. Any thoughts on the below? Definitely aiming for a balance of both good food (very important to me, maybe less-so to the rest of the bunch) and solid scene (beautiful people, etc. etc.):
-rosemary's
-cammander's place
-lotus
-alex
-fix or mix
-cili
-picasso
-michael mira
-prime steakhouse (although we will probably do N9ine based on the above)
-okada
Also - not sure if its appropriate for these boards but whats hot in Vegas right now club-wise (have heard tryst at wynn, not sure what else...)?
NYC Chowhound visits Vegas for a Bachelor Party
So a friend got engaged. The natural next step, book a vegas trip with 15 friends....
Looking for suggestions for a larger group dining (we can be seated seperately or private dining spaces work as well). Looking for great Vegas restaurants (all pricepoints are fine) to do a Friday night dinner and a Saturday night dinner. We are all mid-twenties with stable jobs (read: willing to spluge for the occassion), looking for non-NYC-offshoots (as much as it pains me, no Nobu this trip, will likely skip Tao et. al. in Venetian as well)...
So far, a friend has mentioned N9ne(?) Steakhouse in the Palms... Suggestions will be greatly apprecaited!
NYCer heading to LA nxt week... Top destinations for a 5 nite stay?

Cheap East Village Eats?
Looking for a place to have a sit down meal in the east village... cheap and good. Thinking along the lines of Caracas or Momofuku...
Best dim sum brunch?
Looking for a great dim sum brunch (Manhattan preferred)... I know there have been several threads suggesting places but I haven't seen one more recently.
