Pizza delivery to Standard Hotel Sunset Blvd

Hi everyone,
I'll be staying at the Standard on Sunset this Saturday and I'm looking for recommendations for pizza delivery to the hotel. I'm sure there's a nearby Domino's or Pizza Hut, but looking for something a little bit better. Any ideas? Yes, yes, I know there are so many fabulous restaurants in the area, but I'm going to the 80's prom party at the House of Blues that night and we're having a "grown up" pre-prom party complete with pizza and beer in plastic cups!
Thanks!!

What's between Tarzana and Venice

Meeting friends for dinner, they're in Tarzana, we're in Venice. Looking for recommendations somewhere in the middle. Not too $$$, in the realm of $30-40 pp for dinner and a drink or two. We're open to all cuisines, but two of us don't eat meat, but are easy to please.

Culver City - Lunch Help

I always like going to the cafe in Surfas to get a quick sandwich or salad.
I've had two bad experiences at Ugo. It looks like a fun place to sit outside, but the food and service was very disappointing. I only went back the second time because I was invited by someone else who chose the place.

Bar Pintxo

I didn't try the desserts, but I think a common problem with places like this, and much of the chowhound crowd in general, is that they go knowing what stuff "is supposed to taste like" and unhappy if it's not exactly that. I'm not looking for my experiences from other countries or culinary styles to be recreated to the T, but rather to have a taste of someone else's take on things. I think it's easier to appreciate and enjoy new places when I go with an open mind, not thinking I already know better than the chef.

Bar Pintxo

We went to Bar Pintxo last night and had a very positive experience. We did have to wait about 20 min for a table, but once we sat, the service was great. The energy of the place was really inviting and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Our server spent quite awhile recommending wines and pairings and we did end up spending over $100 for two, but that was just because it was our first time there and we wanted to try many different things. I think it's a great place to stop for a couple glasses of wine and a little something yummy after shopping on 3rd Street. We both left very happy and actually quite full.

Mar Vista delivery?

Mao's Kitchen for Chinese, Shershawa for Indian, La Cabana for Mexican (although their delivery can be very slow), C & O Cucina (not Trattoria, they don't deliver) for Italian, House of Thai Taste for Thai, Fresh in the Box for sushi, Lenzini's for pizza, Jerry's Deli in the marina might come that far...we're just off Walgrove and Venice and they come to us. Hope that helps!

Fried Okra Venice Whole Foods Chef

There was a chef at the Venice Whole Foods who made the most delicious fried okra. He only made it once or twice a week because he said it was so labor intensive, but it was superb. I guess he's no longer working there and I was wondering if anyone knew if he's working somewhere else. I've asked at WF and no one knows, or at least they're not telling me. I must track down that fried okra!!

Lunch in Venice

James Beach is on that block of S. Venice, right around the corner from Louver and has a great beachy atmosphere. I have always loved that place. The Abbot Kinney places mentioned before are also very good, but a bit of a walk. However, if you're in Venice, Abbot Kinney is a great place to visit. I also love Mao's Kitchen, on Pacific just north of Winward. It's very casual and they have great healthy-ish food and you can bring your own wine, if you'd like wine with your lunch. If you do go to Mao's, the Salt and Pepper Shrimp is insane. Whatever you do, DO NOT go to the Canal Club, also on the S. Venice Louver block. I literally had maggots crawl out of a sushi roll there. It was about 6 years ago, but I'll still never go back. Have fun!!

Hidden Restaurant

Thanks for the replies...we went on Valentine's Day and the food was...eh...I'm guessing it's better on a normal night. However, the ambiance was perfect...live music, candlelight, fantastic service, and delicious cocktails. I have been meaning to go back for another jalapeno cucumber margarita...amazing!

Best Veggie Burger you've had?

I eat a lot of veggie burgers and I have to say, the very very best I have ever had (and there's some great ones out there) is at a small breakfast & lunch place called Maxwells on Washington and Walgrove just outside of Marina Del Rey. They make the patties fresh daily themselves and it is the stuff dreams are made of. I seriously think about that veggie burger for days.

Westside Happy Hour

Hi everyone, I've searched the boards and maybe I missed it, but I'm looking for an inexpensive happy hour on the westside. I am meeting a friend that I haven't seen in a long time, so I'd like it to be a place we can catch up that won't be crazy loud. If they have some great apps, that would be awesome.... THANKS!!

18 year old Birthday Lunch Bev. Hills

I have to say that if I were 18 and going on a shopping spree with daddy's $$, I would want lunch at The Ivy and shopping on Robertson. If she's set on shopping in the heart of BH, then Spago it is, but the younger crowd is all about Robertson.

Who makes the best coconut cake on the Westside?

Buttercake? Suzi Cakes? Help!! I am looking for an incredible layered coconut cake, preferably with a coconut custardy filling or a delicious coconut cream cheese frosting. Any ideas?

Ocean and Vine ain't so divine

My husband took me to Ocean and Vine last night for my birthday. We had been once before a couple of years ago for fondue and really enjoyed it. He checked the menu on their website to make sure they still had fondue (a fav of mine), but when we showed up the entire menu and changed! Guess they forgot to change their website, so we were pretty disappointed.

Being that it was my birthday, we brushed it off as a chance to try something new. If we could ever order. It took the waiter 10 min just to ask if we wanted sparkling or still water. A runner brought the water but the waiter didn't return for a good 15 minutes! Cocktails? Wine? You think a waiter at a place like this would know that you don't let your guests sit there for 25 min without taking a drink order! When he finally returned, we ordered a mussel app and our drinks. The mussels arrived about in about 10 min, but still no drinks! A runner dropped of the mussels and I said, we're still waiting on our drinks and he said "I'll get your server". Well, we were half way done with our mussels when our cocktails finally arrived and mine was wrong! He dropped them off and tried to run away, my husband had to call after him "hey, we're ready to order dinner"!

I should say the mussels were very good, although I did get one with a chunk of sand. The broth they were in was delicious.

I ordered the Hawaiian Mero, my husband ordered the Lamb Chops. By the time the entrees arrived, our cocktails were empty. Another runner dropped off our meals, no server in sight. I should mention the place was not even half full, but it seemed they had twice the staff needed for the crowd. We said to the runner, we would like to order more drinks, he said "I'll get your server". That must be their scripted response. I was half way through my meal, annoyed, and the server never came by to see how it was or see if we wanted more cocktails. Finally I saw a manager that I flagged over. I let him know I was extremely disappointed in the service and as I was talking to him, here comes our server literally running to our table. The manager took our drink order and they arrived a few minutes later- wrong again! Wrong in a different way than the first, but still wrong!

The entrees were hit and miss. My husband loved his, mine was not so great. The piece of fish itself was nicely cooked, but had no seasoning. Not even basic salt and pepper. It was topped with a sickeningly sweet "chutney" and on a bed of even sweeter lobster risotto. There was nothing to balance the sweetness. It was like eating dessert.

A funny side note, as we were walking out, we heard another table say to a runner "I need a spoon, and please send the manager over"!

Needless to say, we won't be going there again and I really can not recommend it.

are there some places you eat @ once a week and what do you order?

I could sit outside at Gaby's Mediterranean every night with my own bottle of wine and eat a fatoosh salad and an order of rakakat. 20 Washington, Marina del Rey. Open until 1am and only $5.50 corkage.

Flake in Venice on Rose?

I just ate there last weekend for lunch. My salad was really good. I think it was called Chickie McGreens, or something clever like that. My husband had a grilled club sandwich that was excellent. I wish I'd ordered his! The staff was super friendly and I am sure I will go back.
