SF Honeymooners from Boston

My wife and I just returned from a 3 night stay in SF, we live in Clearwater FL. Not exactly newly weds, we're celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. We both love to try popular local restaurants when we travel. I use Chowhound as one source of ideas.

On this trip we ate dinner at Range, Zuni Cafe, and Qunce. We enjoyed all three and would recommend them for your consideration. We unfortunately did not take detailed notes on our meal selections. You'll find many detailed reports on all three restaurants elsewhare on this board. Service was especially efficient and note worthy at Quince and was also the most costly.

We ate lunch at Yank Sing and Slanted Door. There are some recent posts regarding Yank Sing. Being novices to dimsum we found the selections to be extensive but with the help of our waiter "Tony" we had an enjoyable experience and sampled mostly steamed items.

A breakfast tradition for us when we visit SF and stay in the Union Sq area is Sears. Traditional breakfast items with good french toast, pancakes and waffles.

Best wishes for the upcoming wedding and honeymoon.

Ex-Californians: Great Mexican Restaurants in Tampa Bay?

Just returned from a very good mexican dinner at the Lakeview Grill. I know, I know the Lakeview Grill , good authentic mexican, right!! I've lived in Clearwater for over 25 years and as chow hound I've tried many of the local mexican restaurants including Carramba's (good) Jose's (bad) Carmalita's (americano so so). Spotted a post on this site for the Lakeview Grill so we decided to give it a try. Terrific and I'm sure an as yet undiscovered find in Pinellas county. The owner told us they have been open 40 days.

Entering the place we were the only gringos, a good sign. We were greeted by the owners wife and shown to a booth. We were served chips and a salsa. The salsa was different from most salsa's I've tried. It was very thin without the chunky tomato, onions, jalapenos, etc. Nonetheless very spicy and enjoyable. In looking over the menu I'd describe it as 85% mexican with a carryover of greek items from the former owner . My guess is the new mexican family that took over the restaurat wanted to try to retain some of the former customers. The menu included carne asada, chiles rellenos, fajitas, shrimp/fish mojo d'ajo, flautas, etc. I had the chicken flautas and my spouse had the tostadas cerviche. The 4 crispy corn tortillas flautas were served with a red sauce and fresh cilantro and fresco cheese. The 3 shrimp cerviche tostadas were nicely flavored with fresh lime. Nice, light and delicious according to my spouse. Both entrees were served with yellow rice and refried beans. For desert we shared an excellent homemade flan. The price for dinner including 2 Modelo beers was $28.50.

This an undiscovered find that I recommend to fellow chow hounds.
