Del Posto- to wine pair or not....

I'm taking my wife to Del posto on friday for her birthday! I'm thinking of doing the 7 course tasting menu but wondered if the chowhound crowd would recommend the wine pairings or not. Not sure if ~$125/person would be better spent on full bottles of wine and my greatest fear is just stingy pours.

If anyone has any input to help I'd appreciate it! and any other del posto advice would be great.

Moving to midtown east..... am I screwed for good cheaper eats?

So making the move to midtown from my cozy nook in the east village. Lower 50's and 3rd to be exact.

I know about all the great high end places in Midtown that I'm close to but what about the everyday meal, the neighborhood good find, cheap eats, some good pizza? Please share your favorites.

Help me chowhound community!

Business Dinner in Nashville

If I'm staying at the hermitage is it easy to find cabs to watermark and back? I've never been to Nashville and don't plan on renting a car.

btw RdBchAndy did you end up having a good experience for a business dinner?

Ha if I go over luckily I will charge 1 portion on the corporate card and the rest on my own....I'll try not to get in trouble.

Also I heard about Moto and Blackbird, would those areas be too far from my hotel/work area? It will also be my first test of Chicago public transportation, which I heard is very good.

These are a lot of great suggestions especially close to where I will be working out of near Sears Tower. Wondering if any of you already generous chitown chowhounds can recommend me some more places by my hotel in gold coast/n michigan ave? Table 52 seems great

I've heard great things about Tru, which seems in the area, any thoughts on dining alone there?

help a ny chowhound going to chi town for the first time

Great suggestions guys thanks for all the help. I realize I should have been more detailed as to what I was looking for. I'm a pretty adventurous eater and really do everything from east village type divey- er one hit wonder places to the 11 madison park/le bernadines. I figured the latter might be more odd for a solo dinner, if any places aren't let me know. So maybe other than the ultra fancy, I would be up for anything.

I do really want to just get a taste of Chicago and see the best they have to offer. I'm sure I'll have to at least get a great deep dish pizza. I wanted to avoid anything TOO touristy but if things are that good I'll brave the crowds.

help a ny chowhound going to chi town for the first time

my first foray onto the non NYC chowhound boards

So i'm being sent to Chicago for business, I've never been in this city but want to taste the best of the areas I'll be in.

I'll be working close to Sears Tower and my hotel is the Westin on N Michigan (gold coast area?). I don't know the city well at all so recommendations on anything within walking distance to any of those areas would be great. Or a short bus/train ride..nothing too far . Dinner specifically....

I get a daily allowance of like ~$50/60 per night for dinner but hell since I'm not paying for hotel I would not mind adding a bit of my own cash to eat the great things. I'm open to anything and unfortunately may be eating dinner alone some of these nights.

Thank you all in advance

Best entree at Gotham Bar and Grill?

get the lamb, it was suggested to me when I asked the same question and I was very happy and pretty full. I usually hold my own against a ribeye steak if that is any comparison.

mermaid inn lobster roll.....falling short?

So I'm a big fan of lobster rolls, pearl oyster bar/ marys fish camp are great. After reading the two recent lobster roll reviews I realized that I haven't tried the one @ mermaid inn.

The pictures that I've seen and descriptions all describe it as having "big chunks of lobster" but what I got was very stringy almost shredded pieces of lobster and it wasn't very thick. Too much bun to lobster ratio.

It wasn't an awful lobster roll but I am wondering if what I had was not their usual highly touted masterpiece. The fries were awesome though

bday dinner for 10 around gramercy/flatiron

So i have the daunting task of planning a birthday dinner for 10 people. The birthday girls apt is based around gramercy flatiron so somewhere close is fine. Murray hill and union sq etc you get the picture.

Problem is not everyone invited is working full time (no not a recession based rant) but more like still in school.
I'm open to any type of cuisine but hoping to cap the meal around ~30-35 all in (meal tax tip 1 drink)

thanks so much in adv for your help.

Need Recommendations, newly engaged and the parents are meeting.......HELP

My fiancee and I just got engaged and we are trying to arrange a dinner for the parents to meet. We are trying to put together a list of restaurants in NYC, good for a group of 7 and with a somewhat quiet environment conducive for conversation. Steering away from any sushi places (some in the party don't eat it). Anything nice works, excluding the most expensive of NYC like Per Se, Eleven Madison Park, (no $150 tasting menus haha). Thanks all
