New Yorkers with Tweens Visiting L.A

We'll be visiting the Los Angeles area for the kids winter break, staying in the Redondo Beach area but hitting all the tourist spots-Hollywood, Disney, Universal, the Getty. Our children have never been to L.A and are fairly adventurous eaters. We have plans for In'n Out and Pinks in terms of great West Coast fast food. Any other tips for some good ethnic eats?

Being from NYC, I know you don't have to spend a fortune to have a wonderful dining experience. Any suggestions for some good places? We're staying near Eaton Centre but we're willing to travel a bit.

Friday H Hour and Dining in fun, happening area?

Zanzibar (46th and 9th)is a nice and not too pretentious after work place and very good appetizers. Try the crispy shrimp.

SF Chowhounder Looking for Recs in NYC

Parea--delicious, inventive, friendly staff, beautiful room.
Katz--old school good just don't lose your ticket!
Grimaldi's in BKLYN is an experience as well but you'll wait outside in line for a table.
Inoteca-great late night place with an energetic yet laid-back in some way vibe. Great wait staff and tasty small dishes.

Gramercy Tavern vs. Union Square Cafe

Want to go out for a birthday dinner with my husband. Haven't been to either Union Square Cafe or Gramercy Tavern...thought it was about time to visit one of the classics. Which is better and why?

Parea, anyone?

Went there Friday night. Beautiful room. Extremely friendly staff. Sat at the bar while the rest of our party showed up and the bartenders could'nt have been nicer or knowledgable. We got to sample some of the wines before we made our selections. In terms of starters the scallops and crispy pork were standouts. All 5 of the entrees were outstanding. Skate, Veal, Lamb and the Large Bass (shared for 2) were a joy to eat and share.

Bocca Lupo I believe. I may be missing or adding a "C" or "P" in there. So far, cash only.

great hamburger in brooklyn

cwilco is right on about the Bar Tabac burgers and the Kronenberg 1664 combo! My husband is also a big fan of their Moules Provencal.

Joya downhill?

Yes, Joya seems to have lost it. Lowered their quality on the chicken-very gristly.

Red Hook dining? [moved from Manhattan]

Yeah, go to LaNell's for the bourbon and across the street to Good Fork for chow...

Just ate there last night. Great vibe, nice staff and the sausage, broccoli rabe panini was outstanding. Also good selection of wines by the glass. Its a nice addition to an underserved part of Cobble Hill.
