Dinner at Jitlada Thai Last Night...

I love that place.

They can make stuff pretty spicy if you ask. I found myself crying and holding the table for dear life the last time I went there, it was beautiful!

Help! I'm marrying a hunter...

Can I be your son? I'm a very nice boy, about thirty years old. I like barbeque and game meat and my wife likes the same thing.

In exchange, you get two young tots wearing striped shirts and eating the game meats!

Sawtelle Blvd. recs, please...

A chef friend of mine that likes weirder foods told me about it solely for the Uni Spaghetti. If I lived closer, I'd probably go more often.

That Uni Spaghetti is freakin' ridiculously good.

Potato Tacos, who has the best?

Not to mention that gigantic burrtito! Those potato tacos are a perfect side to a giant burrtito!

What's More Important: Being Good or Being Authentic?

Don't forget the Bratwurst... I hate smiling and nodding every time someone tells me that Johnsonville Brats are great. And when I'm served one with that awful fake non-bratwurst texture and flavor (too coarse, flavor isn't delicate enough, mustard tastes like French's, etc...) I cry and think of the wursts I'd get from Imbiss to Imbiss all over the fine country of Germany---none of which tasted bad and all were reasonably priced.

I miss Germany and a great many other of that country's fine dishes. Your Oktoberfest statement really warmed me.

I hate American Oktoberfests, it just ain't right.

Secret Food Myths - Let the De-Bunking Begin!

I'M JEALOUS! I can watch what I eat and it stays right up there...soon to take little pill.

Sad.

Tofu Festival? More like Nofu Festival

I'm boycotting anything with the word "Festival" in it anymore. It seems people like to set up goofy shops to sell overpriced crap and the food is awful. Don't get me started on the "Festivals" with big corporate food sponsors (i.e. that stupid Garlic Festival in Gilroy with the damned Lawry's tent).

Once I drove an hour to a "French Festival" in Santa Barbara thinking I'd get myself a decent Croque Monsieur. Not a single one in site. But were there shitty middle of the road musical acts-you betcha. There was a creperie, though, it was okay.

But that Tofu Festival, ah yes, I've been. It took me five minutes to get annoyed and leave. Why can't they just have a festival of a single nationality? Is that too difficult? Why do hippies need to set up bead shops at every "Festival"? I'm pretty sure I saw more shitty bead shops than tofu preparations.

You've caught on something that really gets me going..

Taco Truck at La Brea and Olympic

THAT'S THE BEST FREAKIN' TACO TRUCK IN THIS AREA OF TOWN. I LIVE JUST A MILE AND A HALF AWAY! If I went there as much as I'd like my heart would stop pumping and just push delicious grease through my veins.

My parents were just in town from rural Missouri and I made a point to go to that truck for the al pastor. They were blown away and ate more than they should have at nine at night.

Every thing about that truck is beautiful: the three different salsas, the generous handfulls of radishes, and the amazingly seasoned meats.

It should have a line like Mozza...

Restaurants you will defend no matter what anybody says...

Yeah, ain't it kinda depressing? You go, you get this wonderful beer, but the damned food tastes like Chilis...it drives me apeshit.

Musso and Frank's rules. I can't always afford to eat there, but I try and stop in for a martini every now and again because they don't shake 'em. Shaking is very very bad for a martini...

Mexican wine in l.a.

Have you had the L.A. Cetto Nebbiolo? I'm going to be nice here, but...it tasted not so fun.

Like burnt prunes scraped against a butt filter...sorry.

What do they produce that's pleasant?

The Dive on Highland does a lot of those fresh juice cocktails, but for a few bucks less per drink. They have a tasty watermelon dealie.

overrated/over hyped?

I went to the location on Pico a couple of years ago and remember having a really nice side of mac n' cheese. Is that still good there?

Another gentleman also told me they serve proper sausage gravy...I need some now.

I LOVE PINKS. I'M WRITING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE I'M YELLING FROM THE TOP OF A MOUNTAIN.

SORRY GUYS, BUT THE 12" JALAPENO DOG IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS IN THE UNIVERSE, IT REALLY IS. THE SNAP OF THE CASING FOLLOWED BY THE SPICE OF THE CHUNKS OF ACTUAL JALAPENOS ROCKS MY ASS OFF.

thank you, and good night.
