Restaurant for important family celebration for 12 people: superb food, special setting, not pretentious

I need a restaurant to host an important and festive family celebration for 12 adults, in honor of my brother's wedding. We want superb food and a setting that feels special without being pretentious or stuffy. Last time we had an event like this we went to Lucques, which everyone loved, but I'm trying to think of another option and curious about what chowhounds recommend. We're in South Pas but will travel anywhere given the special occasion. Thanks!

Where to have a reasonably good dinner in Pasadena this Sat. night?

Please help! I need a place where a group of 6-8 of us can have a nice-ish work dinner in Pasadena on Saturday night. We need to be able to hear each other, and I'm hoping for yummy food in a place that is not incredibly casual but also not too formal. I have been so dismayed by the quality of the food in Pasadena that I normally just stay clear... is there hope?

Best sushi lunch in Little Tokyo for tomorrow?

Best sushi lunch in Little Tokyo for tomorrow?

I am taking out for lunch tomorrow a dear colleague who is leaving work, and I want to treat her to fabulous sushi in Little Tokyo. I normally go to Sushi Gen but the wait is crazy and we can't go before 1pm, so I don't know if it would work. PLEASE HELP! Where can we have delicious sushi, preferably in a nice setting?

Best Santa Monica/West Side restaurant for special family dinner

Recommendations for superb dining experiences in Santa Monica/West Side for a group of ten, celebrating a big event? Flexible about the area, just looking for really good food and a not-stuffy atmosphere. A small private room would be a plus.
Thank you!

Group dinner in downtwon Pittsburgh - Please help!

Dear Chowhounders,
I will be attending a conference in Pittsburgh in the first week of November and need to find a restaurant where a group of about 8-10 of us can have dinner. It should be not too far from the conference hotel, which is downtown (the Omni William Penn, 530 William Penn Place, Pittsburgh, PA 15219), and also reasonably priced (we're not on expense accounts). I know the constraints mean we won't go anywhere fabulous, but I'm hoping for decent. Any thoughts?
Many thanks!

Where can I get a decorated cake???

I am looking for a bakery that will decorate a cake so that the top looks like a book (white frosting, chocolate text, chocolate drawing). A sixteenth-century book, to be specific. Any suggestions?
