Best sushi/sashimi these days

Thanks all! I've heard Brushstroke is amazing. For now, 15 East it is!

Best sushi/sashimi in Honolulu

We will be in Honolulu (Waikiki) next week for 7 days and would love to know where the best sushi/sashimi restaurant is. Happy to hop in a cab and travel for it. Thanks!

Best sushi/sashimi these days

Thank you! I did a search but was hoping for the most up-to-date. I think we'll try 15 East!

Best sushi/sashimi these days

What's everyone's favorite sushi/sashimi in NY these days? Taking husband for his birthday. Yasuda is our benchmark from the meal we had a few years ago served by Yasuda himself. Happy to go back to Yasuda if it's still amazing (I know he's no longer there).

Um Segredo Supper Club - anyone been?

They are amazing, both food and company. I got tickets through Underground Eats to the Cinco de Mayo one in 2 weeks, looking forward to taking my husband there.

Try Frankie's!

Time Out Sydney's Top 10 - Do you agree?

I had the worst dining experience of my life at Rockpool (to which Neil Perry wrote back to our complaint that "we obviously didn't understand what he was trying to do at Rockpool") so I can't agree with that, and like you klyeoh I haven't been to Universal (would love to), however the rest of the list sounds about right. Glad Marque is right up there, my personal favourite.

Momo Ma Peche?

I was pretty disappointed and found the experience really flat. I had the rice noodles which had no depth of flavour, just a quick stir fry with a little spice. My partner's steak was cooked well but had no impact on us - and we love our steak. Service was confused.

Oysters delivered as a Valentine's Day gift?

My boyfriend lives in Brooklyn and I'd love to deliver him some oysters for a Valentine's Day gift (I live in Sydney) - we are both love our oysters so does anyone know of a place that will deliver some great oysters to Brooklyn (or Manhattan if need be). Apart from Fresh Direct!

Thanks so much!

Best restaurants in Fitzrovia [London]

I work in Fitzrovia and have my usual lunch spots, but would love to know where is good to eat at night (a relative coming to visit and staying in the area). There are so many restaurants on and around Charlotte St/Goodge St and I know you’ll all point me in the right direction! We love all types of food. Thanks!

Bouchon Breton, Spitalfields Market, London

I actually had the worst meal I've had in one year living in London here. My friend and I booked through the Toptable offer of 2 courses for £10 for a pre-theatre meal. They were playing French electropop when we entered which was quite fun, but then changed to Tracey Chapman. In an empty restaurant (we were the only table). On a Saturday night. It was depressing to say the least. Despite us having dinner at 5pm and the deal being from 4pm-10pm, they said they'd run out of the offer, and would instead give us 20% off food. We were already a bit put off, but ordered the seafood pasta, thinking it's well-known for seafood so it should be a decent meal. Overcooked pasta, bathing in cream, with mussels still with their beards attached, and 2 small prawns with the shell on over the top. This is what I expect of a 'seafood' pasta from those cheap cafes you see in tourist traps. No seasoning. No offer of grated pepper (and none on the table, and ages to get the waiter's attention for some, just to give a little taste to the dish). We left most of it.

We'd also ordered 'bread, butter and almonds' and 'saucisson cornichons'. The bread and butter arrived, no almonds. When I asked if the almonds were coming, the waitress snapped 'of course!'. No almonds ever came. The saucisson cornichons came with our pastas instead of with our cocktails. Absolutely ridiculous, and the bill still came to £50-odd. When you can get really decent food in London for around a tenner, this left me really angry.

Congee in London?

Yes, I would really love to know too - in Chinatown or anywhere in London!

Good Food Show in November, anyone going?

I want to go to the one in London!

supermarket picks

Ooh great thread! Definitely going to bookmark this one (and try that Waitrose bacon - Waitrose being my favourite supermarket so let's hear other picks from there).

The Waitrose creme fraiche is good, as are their baguettes (Whole Foods had horrible baguettes). I've bought some of their stocks but have yet to use them so will report back.

M&S rocky road icecream is a bit too good - I ate 3/4 of a tub in one sitting. Small marshmallows, gooey sauce and a yummy chocolate icecream.

Special (but fun!) dinner+drinks in London

That's crazy - my workmate just suggested the same thing! What's the food like? He's quite posh with food (but likes a fun/relaxed atmosphere).

Sketch has been ditched from my shortlist.

London - markets and restaurants in Islington

You'll no doubt have a meal at Ottolenghi, on Upper St. I've lived here a few months and my mum recently visited - this was one of very few meals I enjoyed taking her to (the rest being poor value and average food). The food is GORGEOUS, it's kind of like fresh, modern Middle Eastern food, and you'll see it all as you walk in. Full of flavour. Can't wait to go back.

Also, Gallipoli is a Turkish restaurant with three sites on the same road (Upper St). Very cheap and cheerful, order the mixed mezes and your table will be filled with about a dozen little dishes of pretty delicious Turkish dips, meats and vegetables. Very pretty inside too.

Special (but fun!) dinner+drinks in London

My boyfriend is visiting me in London and his birthday falls on a week night. Would love to take him for a special but fun night out. It's a birthday so not worried about budget. Just don't want something stuffy. We love our food and chefs so I'm thinking either one of Gordon Ramsay's many restaurants, or a place like Sketch. Has anyone been to Sketch lately and can advise? It sounds like it would be fun and a good place to grab a drink after work and before dinner.

Alternatively I'd be interested in any other recs you may have. Thanks!
