Jersey City good eats for a foodie ??
Second Street Bakery 402 2nd St, Italian, wonderful sandwiches on their own bread, they close early
Philippine Bread House Cafe 530 Newark Ave, baked goods and plate lunches
Pecoraro Bakery 279 Newark Ave, good bread and focaccia
Carmen Rosa Bakery 37 Coles St, sugary dominican treats, incredible value. My daughter vouches for the red velvet cake
Cinco De Mayo 401 Central Ave
Los Tres Chilitos Mexican - 456 Central Ave
These 2 Mexican restaurants in the Heights are sometimes uneven, as staff come and go and communication can be an issue if you don't speak spanish, but if you're willing to take a chance, and if you find out what the specials are, the food can be delicious.
There's White Star for a burger and a beer http://whitestarbar.com/
Indian in Jersey City, well there are quite a few places in close proximity and I can't say I've ever had a sublime meal, but not a bad one either, and I've just tried a place that would be fun for the adventurous, China Chowk. It's an Indian take on Chinese food. The sauces were a bit gloppy, but I'd like to explore the menu further, especially more of the appetizers and the "drier" dishes.
I agree on most of the other recommendations except for Hard Grove, which is terrible.

5 days in Sedona - 2 in Scottsdale with multiple food allergies – need help!
I have a couple of recommendations in the Arcadia neighborhood, based on a recent visit to my MiL who has allergies, and was on a pretty restrictive diet. Beckett's Table http://beckettstable.com/menu/ and La Grande Orange http://www.lagrandeorangegrocery.com/menu I think LGO has a more expansive menu than is shown online, plus there are related restaurants, and I think they do their own baking.
Hoboken
I'm thinking that you are staying in the Jersey City Marriott, yes? In which case Rita and Joes' (also Jersey City) would suit your needs.
Hoboken on a Friday night with outdoor seating
Elysian cafe is a good choice.
On Willow is Zack's with a classic pub menu and good beer http://www.zackshoboken.com/menus/tap-beer-and-ale.html?view=vmenu
And Grimaldi's now has a Washington Street location near 4th St. They have a small but good draft beer selection.

Open in southern Maine on Christmas Eve/Day?
The Ramp is open Christmas Eve (and I'll mention that I'm not trying to drum up business for them, since I've posted about them before! I just enjoy going there when I'm in town) http://www.pier77restaurant.com/
I've not been to On the Marsh in Kennebunkport, as we usually are doing beachy visits to Maine with children, but I've heard good things, and I noticed they were open for Thanksgiving Day. http://www.onthemarsh.com/index.html

Where to go for what my 70 y/o Mom thinks is a "fun" meal? But foodies need to be appeased, too.
Brooklyn Bowl has live music and dj's and good food. But of course, it all depends on whether you consider bowling or being in its vicinity fun. Weekends 12 to 6 are family days http://www.brooklynbowl.com/info
Where can I purchase a spice cake or square with chocolate icing on it?
Do you have a good Polish bakery nearby? Spice cake with chocolate is a combination that I first encountered at Polish bakeries in Greenpoint (Brooklyn).
Dining with kids-UGH!
My kids loved Luke and the server made a great effort to make sure my youngest was happy (as in getting pancakes out of a lunch time kitchen). Parkway is good for kids and of course delicious. The adventurous children might be taken with idea of alligator being an ingredient in the gumbo.
Cake Cafe is good for breakfast and lunch and would be fun to let loose a hungry swarm of children in. Still thinking of the goat cheese pear pastry I got there. http://www.nolacakes.com/ Also Croissant D'Or Patisserie and La Divina Gelateria http://www.ladivinagelateria.com/ My kids like eating at coffee bars, is it the wifi or seeing the dessert possibilities in front of them?

I haven't gotten anything from this place, but am interested to try them when they open. Cocoa Bakery. They are baking cakes, just waiting on the cafe.

birthday dinner with a bunch of specifics?
Yes it is very casual, as you can see by the pictures. A wobbly mashup of patio furniture. It's also budget friendly so you can splurge on wine if you want. Last time I went it was about 8 o'clock and almost too late, as half of that night's dishes were sold out. But what we shared, 2 appetizers and an entree, was quite tasty and left room for dessert. I don't know the usual starting time for dinner. . . . .
FQ Brunch recommendations for private party
While not exactly in the FQ, Calcasieu has a $28 luncheon menu. http://www.calcasieurooms.com/menus.html
birthday dinner with a bunch of specifics?
Another budget friendly idea is to keep an eye on the menus at Bacchanal Wine. That can add up to a unique and festive meal. You have to get there on the early side, as they sell out of food.

Consider making a meal of small plates at Cure. The cocktails are deeeelicious. And it fits your budget.

Kennebunkport in March
The Ramp in Cape Porpoise is open year round. I can recommend the food and cocktails there.

Looking for white sangria
It was on the brunch menu that I ordered it. No too sweet with pears, melon and peaches, and topped of with something bubbly (prosecco?) That meal was one of the best of our trip, at that point, and we made sure to go back for dinner last Saturday. I didn't see the white sangria listed at that time, or maybe I was just distracted by the Pickle Patois (the best pickle cocktail I've had lately, sorry Death and Co.) But I would bet that if rpn ga explained his desire for a white sangria ahead of time, the bartender would make a pitcher for him. I recall it being a very reasonably priced $6 for a half pitcher. I wish I had one sweating on the table in front of me now.

Waterfront Dining suggestions in Jersey City...?
The chef from the late lamented OX is now at Henry's on the Hudson in Harborside Financial (I haven't been, but I loved the food at OX).
Help! First trip with the kids next weekend
Just down the street from the children's museum on Julia Street is the perfect little general store/grocers. They have plate lunches and hot breakfasts and great sandwiches. They fixed my little one up with a styofoam cup of white beans and sausage when her energy was low. My youngest is like a bird, she needs to eat every hour or two. There's a few tables inside, but most people are getting food to go.

Any NON-DINER Breakfasts in N. New Jersey?
The best donuts in NJ come from farmstands.

This maybe a good way to get your fresh breakfast too.
New Orleans Coffee
Thank you for the suggestions, I will gratefully follow up on them. Looking forward to my next visit (it seems I'm always planning my next visit to New Orleans) and this New Orleans board is the greatest. I see now, this question was asked a year and a half ago, so I appreciate your patience as well. Our next visit will be a summer one, and I'm going to need plenty of beverages, and am glad to have new (to us) neighborhoods to explore, like Oak Street.
New Orleans Coffee
I do love the Cafe Du Monde, but where else do you go for the delicious coffee? Iced coffee? Coffee and a snack? Is anyone importing and roasting their own beans? Anything comparable to Blue Bottle coffee out of San Francisco?
Filipino Cuisine in Jersey City
My experience with 5 corners-area philippino food is limited to lunch (mostly while serving jury duty).
Philippine Bread House http://philippinebreadhouse.com/ breakfast and hot lunches, to eat there or take out. Delicious baked goods.
Little Quiapo 530 Newark Ave., (201) 656-0384 In the parking lot of Philippine Bread House. Tasty, steam table, home style cooking.
Fiesta Grill 655 Newark Ave., (201) 656-7060 fiestagrill.net/ They have another location on West Side Ave., that might be easier for parking and has a more extensive menu.
Phil-Am Food 685 Newark Ave., (201) 963-0455 www.philamfood.com Grocery store with steam table food choices, take out only.

Best of Mitsuwa Marketplace?
Adding to the above shopping list, mushrooms. Great selection and price.
And since I'm usually there with snack-crazed children, we buy candy and snacks and prepared foods. The vegetable and fish fritters, fried chicken, seaweed salads, finishing with a slice of green tea cake.
Best Sandwiches...?
The BLT at Luke, made with buster crab, is super delicious. It's on my all-time great list.
Hoboken Lunch Gems?
At the corner of 3rd and Bloomfield is Sri Thai, they're closed on Tuesday. Also on 3rd between Bloomfield and Garden is Von Holland Delicatessen (201) 792-2211. They are poplar for soup, carryout only. Oozing with "character" much like Schnackenberg's.
I like Lisa's Deli at 9th and Park and Napoli's (for pizza and salad) on Washington and 11th.
