Please fill in holes for late March weekend for six

RGR, i arrived in NYC yesterday. I have a week here, and have just found word of your LES tour, but can't find it. Is it MIA while you revise it? Thanks!

Argentine Grilled Chicken

I'll have to try this out for comparison's sake! . I just grilled some chickens using the Cooks Illustrated butterfly method, which was less work than this and worked very well.

Birthday Lunch in DT Seattle

I get treated for my birthday today by a friend who works DT, and I get to choose. I don't eat downtown all that often, so am looking for recommendations. I'm always happy with Salumi, but he works close to the Market, so I thought it would be nice to go there. I don't often eat in teh Market very often aside from snacking/grazing. I like Cafe Presse so would be interested in Le Pichet, perhaps. Have never been to Matt's, and it looks like Steelhead Diner and 94 Stewart may be good choices.

Now I'm off to Columbia City Bakery for birthday breakfast; hopefully I'll get some great help in the next 2 hours! Thanks!

Dining Alone in SD

I have returned to Seattle and wanted to give a note of thanks to all who replied. I chose The Better Half for my solo dining night. It was a good suggestion; I loved the lamb lollipops and bread pudding. The duck confit cigars were not a big hit with me. I love duck and had high hopes for that dish! I thought the prices here were just a bit on the high side Service was lovely. We stopped in the next night for dessert.

We ate at Chilango's across the street and thought for the price, the food was outstanding. Service was very friendly, and since they forgot to bring our drinks until the food arrived, they were on the house. I may have cared more if I hadn't just come from happy hour.

I only got to try one taco truck, and chose Mariscos German. Loved it. I believe I remember reading that they have a sit-down location and thought that's where i was heading. I was not disappointed to find a truck, just surprised :) I had fish tacos and shrimp quesadilla, loved both, and I was pleased to find that our taquerias in the Northwest compare favorably to SD!

Thanks again to all!

I'm pretty sure Viet Wah carries lard.

Dining Alone in SD

Thank you all for the recommendations! When we are eating together, we're likely to sample as many Taquerias as possible (will search this site for what I'm sure is an ongoing discussion). But, on my own I wanted something that would occupy more of my evening: )

Where to take friends for special dinner in Seattle?

Rover's is a wonderful, very expensive special occasion restaurant. However, when I ate there, I was one of a handful of men not wearing a jacket. I was comfortable there in just a tie, but I would not consider this a casual place by any means!

Dahlia can be a crowd pleaser, but many like Palace Kitchen (same owner) better; not as upscale, but food is great here.

What about:
Harvest Vine (Basque cuisine)
Lark
Crush
Matt's

Dining Alone in SD

I am coming to SD Thursday, and will be alone for Thurs evening/Friday while my other half is in a conference. Can someone recommend a place where a person would feel comfortable eating alone? Perhaps somewhere there is a bar/counter? Staying in Hillcrest but I'll have a car so I ultimately I don't care what part of town it's in, I just want some great food! Thanks in Advance!

Stone ground grits (SEA)?

I gave up a few years ago :) I moved here from the south and can't find anything locally that fit the bill. I loved the grits served at Sammie Sue's on Cap Hill, and before they closed I asked their source. It was Weisenberger Mills in Kentucky, and that's where I order mine. In fact, I've even visited them to see the mill in action.

Challenge finding east coast favorites in Seattle

Can't offer advice on much here, but try Simply Desserts in Fremont. They bake the best cake I have found here. Think rich, moist, homemade style cake here. Love this place!

Remo Boracchini's? I think you must need to have grown up on this stuff to appreciate it. I am a transplant and have given them a few tries, but just hated everything I tasted. Bland cakes with canned fillings. No thanks!

Tillamook - Any Good Surprises

Last summer, I went camping in the area and stopped for lunch at a small seafood shop across the highway from the Tillamook factory/Visitor's center. I can't remember the name of the place, but I had wonderful crab cakes! I had to wait while the cook cracked the crab, so freshness was the utmost!

Lakewood/Lincoln Park Help?

Hi,

I am visiting for just 24 hours, arriving tomorrow at 2:30. I know it is short notice, but I am hoping for great suggestions. I have been reading this board for a few days, and haven't found listings in this neighborhood. Will I need to travel to find something great? I won't have a car, but do not mind traveling for good food.

Suggestions in other areas that have interested me so far are Xni-Pec, Blackbird, Avec, Frontera, Mercat a la Planxa, or just a good beef sandwich. I have had pizza in Chicago before and liked it, but am not sure I want to have it again if I should try something else.

Thank You!
