Trader Joe's YAY/NAY - May 2014 [old]

Hell to the YAY: the shaved Manchego from the flyer. Fantastic. Have some with nuts and a cocktail. 3.99 for 5 oz.

Costco Food Finds - 2nd Quarter 2014

Came by to say the Maya Kaimal Madras Curry. It had chickpeas and lentils, so I didn't add anything and called it a meatless meal. I made rice to go with. I will definitely re-purchase, esp. during the summer, when I try to microwave my way to dinner as much as possible.

Trader Joe's Yay/Nay - February 2014! [OLD]

Whales are horrible. Bad taste and lots of cheez dust residue on your fingers.

Glowing Severed-Hand Halloween Punch

Absolutely no glow at all--all of the luminescence came from the black light I put underneath the punch bowl. Make whatever punch your kids will drink; that probably is one without bitter tonic water. [I even used fancy all-natural tonic water. No dice.]

How to Make a Delicious Glow-in-the-Dark Punch for Halloween

FAIL. I made lemonade with tonic water, and it didn't glow much at all. Pretty disappointing, especially considering that it tasted foul, so the kids didn't like it anyway.

Costco Food Finds - 1st QTR 2011 - Old

From the Houston: Galleria (Richmond) location:

I was really pleased that Costco started carrying Chobani Champions yogurt for kids. It's made with 2% milk, so it's not fat-free. I wish they carried the plain Fage in whole or 2%, as well. Unfortunately, I got a mixed-verdict from the daughter on the Champions yogurt: she likes the berry but not the banana-honey. (And in fairness, I tried it too, and it was really bland. Maybe if you added bananas and honey...)

And, though I realize I may be run out of Chowhound for saying it, I'm REALLY pleased with the Trident Seafoods Ultimate Fish Stick. Far less breading than regular fish sticks, and made from fillets, not minced fish. They're so good, my husband and I will even eat them. They've been around since sometime last year.

I'm also consistently amazed at how long the Earthbound Organics Spring Mix will last in the fridge.

What Food to Bring New Parents

Bring something like muffins or banana bread. Mom can eat it any time, whenever she's hungry, which is just as likely to be during the 2 am feeding. Even something like Luna bars would be appreciated (though if you could bring Russ & Daughters' chocolate babka, they might name the baby after you).
