What did you have for lunch today?
Vegetable matzo ball soup and a piece of toast with cheese. Diet root beer over ice and a handful of pringles. Thinking about the cheesecake in the fridge...
Your favorite 'road trip' food
Is time for a road trip! You have your sunglasses, your iPod, your GPS and your cell phone. Now it's time to pack the fun stuff. The food! What on you pack,, if anything, to eat on road? Cookies? ChipsZ. Sandwiches? Or do you eat fast food from the drive through?
What did you have for lunch today?
I had lunch driving home from Target. A diet coke with ice, bag of popcorn and salted soft pretzel all from the concessions counter. Damn good lunch! :)
What would you make with canned fruit syrups?
I'd mix them with seltzer and serve over ice.
Freeze in ice trays and use in punch or puree and eat as sorbet.
Maybe sub the syrup for liquids in cake batters. Just use less sugar in the recipe.
What did you have for breakfast today?
A can of cream of mushroom soup (heated with the requisite can of water) and toast with shredded mozzarella melted in the oven. Diet 7up over ice. A sliver f cheesecake rounded out my morning.
Would you eat baconaise? (It is OU certified)
Nope. I've lived without bacon for my entire thirty something years. No interest in a product that mimics the flavor.
What did you have for breakfast today?
No time for food this morning so my first meal is now, at 1:15 pm. Raided the freezer and found some frozen French fries and breaded fish fillets. Threw them into the oven and had those with diet coke over ice. Dinner will be better...I hope!
Costco cheesecake? Did I imagine it...?
I'm in Los Angeles. No kosher costco cheesecake for us! Alas, it's going to be homemade. Oh, gosh darn, what a horrible sacrifice I must make! :)

Those weird things you eat when you are in your kitchen
Yes! I do the melted cheese thing, too! If I'm azy, I do it on a Pam sprayed piece of foil in the oven.
And the smoked cheese and mustard thing? It's even better with either hot or whole grain mustard! Mmmmm
What did you have for breakfast today?
Lemon lime kool aid made with Spkenda over ice. Cottage cheese with fresh pineapple chunks. In the mood for melted cheese so perhaps grilled cheese in a little while.
Those weird things you eat when you are in your kitchen
When I make pasta sauce (I only make marinara) in like to dip in a piece of bread and eat it. Sometimes I just dip out a spoonful and eat it that way.
Also, I keep bags of ice on hand. I like to suck on them as I work.

Hadleys dates in Cabazon right outside of Palm Srings. I'm pretty sure they have them. Look for the dinosaurs!
What did you have for breakfast today?
Ravenous this morning. Started with det ginger ake over ice. Then pineapple chunks and sliced oranges and grapefruit with large curd cottage cheese. And a Chobani peach yogurt.
I also put some cheese on leftover challah and baked it the oven. Forgot about it so it got a little extra toasty. But damn, it was good!
Plus more ginger ale over ice. And I ate the ice, too! :)

Have you tried to freshen them in the oven? I've done that with crackers and tortilla chips and e even matzo.

Mama chef, I don't think they've changed the prices, either! :). Certainly cot complaining!
This morning I had cookies. I was baking for my friend's engagement party which was cancelled, as was her engagement. Thank G-d! Most stuff is in the freezer for another time but last night I made these pumpkin oatmeal cookies...which were breakfast today. With diet root beer straight out of the 0 oz bottle. Too damn lazy to bother with a glass.
Oh, and a handful of Pringes. Because they were there.
Lower cost weddings in Los Angeles
my friend is getting married in August and is on a very tight budget. I'm trying to help her out by making a few inquiries regarding kosher caterers and venues that won't break the bank. Ideally, she'd like a venue outside, but even a low cost shul social hall will work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I spent the last week in Brooklyn (I live in Los Angeles) and had a veggie and cheese omelet with hash browns and diet coe every morning at a little hole in the wall diner that hasn't changed it's decor or menu since I was first there in 1987 when I was very young. It's always crowded and the food fresh. I sure miss NY!
Weird combinations?
Gefilte fish pizza. Ugh! I saw it in a restaurant recently...cannot imagine ordering it!

I lie Earth Balance, but Spectrum makes a sort of Crisco-like alternative in a plastic tub. Ibthink it's mostly coconut oil but it works pretty well.

Two mini chocolate chip cookies, a couple of Entenmanns devils food popems, and a bug cup of Diet Vernor's ginger soda over ice. I promised myself that I would do better tomorrow! :)
Do you have family/friends who don't appreciate good home cooking?
I haven't finished reading this entire thread but I'm loving it and empathizing with every post! I no longer feel so alone! I have friends and family lie some of the aforementioned relatives and I'm amazed that I'm not bald from pulling at my hair all these years! Thank you all for sharing your horror stories! I have plenty and will share my own as soon as I have time!
Are you a recipe hoarder?
I confess! Besides owning maybe 200 cookbooks, I also have hundreds of cooking magazines and boxes full of recipes either clipped from magazines or printed from th computer. I have notebooks full of recipes I've written down and lately I've been copying and pasting to my iPad. I just can't bear to part with any of them! I'm single, but if one day my boyfriend and I decide to get married, I'm going to have to get rid f some.
What to eat with cottage cheese?
Had it last night stirred into steaming hot Trader Joes marinara sauce. Ate it like soup. So good!
I also love a scoop of cottage cheese and a scoop of either orange or rainbow sherbet on top of a fresh fruit salad in summer. One of my favorite summer meals!
Guilty Pleasure
Fresh strawberries dipped in powdered jello mix. Tangy and sweet. And if im not lazy, I might drizzle them with melted chocolate. Or just eat te chocolate with the strawberries dipped in jello.

Just had matzo pizza for lunch! It was so good. :)
My boyfriend eats matzo all year and my dad ate it every day while I was growing up. I'm not sure when he stopped, but he barely touches it these days.
