Daytona Ormond area rec
I would like to buy a gift certificate for $100 for dinner for two as a gift for a couple who recently relocated to that area. I realize this area is not know for fine dining, but I am hoping to get a rec or two. I have resorted to Urbanspoon (which I don't trust). My choices thus far are:
The Dish (tapas, but fun and they could go more than once)
The Cellar
Toscana
Thanks in advance for any info on these or other suggestions!
Rehoboth in October
Special Dinner = Nage, hands down. I like Kindle as well, but it is a distant second for me. I second the rec for Touch of Italy. They are slated to open a full service version on 2nd in Lewes sometime this fall. Not sure when the Lewes Farmers Market ends, but it is a great place for bread, cheese and other baked goods.

Lake Buena Vista Recs
We (2 adults and 5 year old) are staying in Lake Buena Vista for a week of sightseeing, will have a car, and would love dinner recs on:
-anything healthy and organic, wraps, kebabs, etc.
-non-chains, unless spectacular
-under $20 per entree, but don't have to spend that much
-ethnic is a great option for us-- Greek, Thai, Indian, Cuban, Mexican
-the kid is adventurous, won't eat from a kid's menu, and is well behaved, but we aren't looking to dress for dinner, so shorts, jeans will be our attire.
Also, if you're aware of decent healthy options for lunch in any of the theme parks, that would be nice. We don't plan to eat dinner at any of the parks; we did the dining plan last time and got sick of it.
Thanks in advance!
Best Restaurants in Rehoboth/Bethany Beach?
Pretty sure that I have if not. I could write a book on it. Always save room for dessert. I prefer their lunch options over their dinner menu.
Smoky Mountains Fish Market?
I'll be in the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge areas this weekend and would love to prepare some rainbow trout. Are there any decent fish markets with local catches and I will driving around so it doesn't have to be immediate area. Alternatively, does any restaurant have it on the menu? I understand this area to be a food wasteland.
Thanks in advance!
Langhorne Chinese
I have eaten at great Chinese place every time I have gone to Sesame Place. It's not in Langhorne, but 15 minutes or so away. I read that the family used to have a place in Chinatown and then moved to the suburbs. Does anyone know the place I am talking about?
Thanks!
Chapel Hill Recs?
Great ideas! We all love Cuisine Malaya here in Charlotte, so trying another Malaysian restaurant definitely has appeal. IMO, the Ethiopian options in Charlotte have slipped so that would be treat too. We will be in town lunch Sunday and Monday too, so we will probably both of these.
The BBq Joint, Mint, Squid and Tallulahs will be back ups. We have been to Crooks Corner and would like something different. Though when I prepare shrimp and grits at home, it is their recipe I use.
Any word on Cafe Parvaneh?
Chapel Hill Recs?
Charlotte hound looking for recommendation for 2 adults and one well behaved 4 year old on Sunday evening. Ethnic is great but not necessary if there is something else we should not miss. We all like anything. We would like to keep entree price under $20.
Thanks!
Charlotte Ethnic with a baby.
Cuisine Malaya is a great option too and pretty kid friendly. The lunch deals there can't be beat and Malaysian food is not that easy to find. We dine there at least twice a month.
Charlotte Ethnic with a baby.
You will be fine with a child at Greek Isles and Pio Pio and I would guess all of the Vietnamese places you name. I would also recommend Thai House and Bombay Cuisine in Pineville, south of Charlotte so closer to Lancaster and kid friendly
Revolution Pizza Charlotte
I went to Revolution Pizza for dinner: good food, decent price, okay location with a nice space, below average service.
For two adults and one child, the following:
1 white pizza with 3 veggies, which was pretty good
1 red pizza with sausage and peppers, which was very good
1 kids pepperoni pizza, horrible
1 house salad, very good
1 soup—butternut squash and carrot, okay, a little salty, wouldn’t order again
1 chocolate hazelnut gelato, very good
Total bill $43 before tip
I ordered the small salad and was brought the large, which I suspected when served but didn’t know for certain until I was charged for the large--no big deal since I enjoyed it.
There was an issue with the child’s pizza and I should have sent it back immediately. The pepperoni was two different colors—normal and brown. My first assumption was that some was pepperoni and another meat was inadvertently put on there as well. My daughter would not eat the pizza because the pepperoni tasted funny and pulling it off was no help as the flavor remained. I complained to the waitress as she was clearing the table. I told her I did not wish to take that half home with me because none of us cared for it and in fact, thought it might be spoiled.
I suggested that knocking half ($2) off would be nice since none of us would eat the pizza. She spoke with the chef and returned to tell me that they use high quality pepperoni and we were not accustomed to its taste.
I considered that as I watched a meeting of the chef, owner and another person discussing the situation. I asked for the manager (owner, I think). He basically told me the same thing, no offer to check the food, but an assurance that the ingredients were fine. He offered no real explanation for why it was two different colors. I suggested that I receive money off, he hesitated, said I should have shown the pizza to him. I explained the server took it. He ultimately did agree to the $2, which turned out to be $1.50 as I was overcharged for one of the pizzas.
I suggested to him that if he knew his pepperoni was not the standard, they should note that on the kids’ menu, since that is largely what kids will order.
Add to this a server who wasn’t experienced or knowledgeable, kept fiddling with her hair while at our table, and another server who slid half of my companion’s pizza onto the table when delivered, my companion saved it by catching it before it slid into her lap. There was a very nice and helpful waiter who checked on us a couple times and knew his stuff on the gelato.
Overall, I doubt I will return. The quality of the food does not outweigh the poor management response to a dissatisfied customer with a reasonable request.
Ripken/Myrtle beach
Second on the Sea Captain's House. I typically avoid MB like the plague, but I have done an off season weekend just to dine there. IMO, it has slipped a little over the 10+ years that I have been dining there, but was still very good the last time I went.
Gourment Magazine loves Price's Chicken Coop. Really?
Color me underwhelmed also. I much prefer Bojangles. I do wonder if Prices has a PR firm; they make Gourment and other cooking and travel magazines frequently and I just don't get it.
Pepper shooters w/Sauerkraut
Hiatt's stuffed peppers may be what ou are talking about. Not sure if they have a website; it is (or was) a family owned deal. They were sold in W-S grocery stores (Food Lion, Teeter) though I don't think available outside W-S.
J&S Cafeteria in Pineville closed
I was dining at Bombay Grille in south Charlotte and noticed it was closed. Anyone know why and if it is permanent? I thought their pies were pretty good.
Brixx Pizza - Charlotte NC
I like Brixx because I don't always want thick crust pizza, not because I think it is the best in town. I frequently order the salad you mention (but never with salmon) and I have always found it to be fresh. I am surprised at the floor; I have always thought they were pretty clean (the restroom usually is too).
Brixx is in my mix of to-go pizza joints in the area. My top choice is Riccio's and next is Portofino's, but when I want something diffrerent or lighter, the BBQ chix, mexican or artichoke pizzas are a good variation.
Charlotte BBQ
Well, this one has been beaten to death, but if you can't go to Lexington for BBQ, there are many places in Charlotte to have a great meal and none of them are BBQ.
Mac's is decent, but not worth sending an out-of towner there; it really is nothing special.
Paul, any other cuisines that you are a fan of? We have some good soul food--Mert's uptown comes to mind.
Diners-Dives-Drive Inns in Charleston?
Boulevard Diner in mount Pleasant, not sure about the breakfst part, but killer lunch and dinner.
Big Daddy's Burger Bar, East Blvd.Charlotte
I have been twice. The first time was very good; loved the burger, the homemade ketchup was great. I couldn't wait to go back. The second visit could not have been more different than the first. The bun was stale, the burger waaaay overcooked, the ketchup we inedible, the fries were greasy and likely leftover from lunch as they appeared to be the crumbs of the lot.
I might give it another whirl, but I doubt it.
Asheville/Biltmore with a Kid
My partner and I will be in Asheville on a Sunday night with our 3 year old. We love good food and Zambra, Fig, and Limones all look good. Are any of these appropriate for kids? (I will add that she is a very well behaved 3 and accustomed to dining in decent places; we will likely dine around 5:30 so as not to be too noticeable.) If none of these, please suggest something else. Anything ethnic is great, no chains of course. Thanks!
Cupcakes in Charlotte?
I had heard a place was coming to Central Ave Neighborhood. Anyone know anything about this? Suggestions of other places are welcome. TIA!
Sushi in Charlotte NC
I have been to Sushi 101 a couple times years ago and never returned because both times we experienced bad service and average at best sushi. I haven't tried Koishi. I do like Cuisine Malaya's sushi.
Dinner in Charlotte: Not fine dining, not a dive, not a chain...
Agree on the lack of Chinese in Charlotte, but lots of other Asian options, so I typically don't mind.
Isn't Thai Orchid closed? I may be wrong as I prefer Thai Thai, Thai Taste and Thai House. Jaipur is not even in the top 3 of Indian food (though they were among the first),
131 Main in Charlotte
Went to the location on East Blvd the other night (when the Burger Bar was too crowded). I had potato soup and house salad; My companion had the tuna burger.
The soup was nothing to write home about; the salad was tasty for two reasons: the cornbread croutons and the creamy garlic dressing, but beyond that it was lettuce and bacon only. I enjoyed rice salad and the slaw on the tuna bruger, but the tuna itself was rather tasteless. Service was good and friendly.
This is the 3rd restaurant in this location and I doubt they make it either. The rent there must be unbelievable because the the prices are a bit out of reach for what this neighborhood supports. (The bill was $12 for each person--a little too much for what it was.) I see a Village Tavern or Harpers making it in that space maybe.
Parking is a PITA there too.
Big Daddy's Burger Bar, East Blvd.Charlotte
I have tried twice to got to the Bruger Bar, closed once for water issues and way crowded the other time. I'll get there evenutally. Frank certainly know what it takes to succeed in Charlotte.
What's happening at Anne Maries Coastal Highway?
I had heard PF Chang's, but the exterior doesn't fit there typical look
