So glad to hear that others like it too! There will definitely be a box of Senape's coming home with me after every visit to Hazelton from now on.

While we're at it...we also had lunch at the Knotty Pine in Hazelton. It had a lot of character, and I found out my mom used to be a waitress there when she was a teenager in the late 60's. I bet it looks exactly the same now as it did back then.

Just got back from a trip to visit my parents new home in the poconos (sort of). They both grew up in northeastern PA (NEPA), and are retiring back to their roots. While we were up there for the holiday, I discovered the most awesomely unique pizza-type-thing in a while. Senape's bakery in Hazleton, PA.

They have some good breads and rolls and stuff, but their specialty is this "pitza". They sell it already baked, but at room temp, wrapped up in boxes of 12 square pieces. It's very saucy, but a good, tasty, salty tomato sauce with a little sharp cheese on top. The crust is really soft, and it's good cold or crisped up in the oven.

We actually transported a box of it back to Knoxville, Tennessee with us tonight and some mysterious chemical reaction happens to make it better after sitting around un-refrigerated all day long. I was skeptical when I saw them selling day old and two-day old pitza in the store, but now I get it. Anyone know about this magical food?

Heck yeah, they still do lunch, five bucks for meat and three plus fresh salsa and chips and banana puddin'! Everything was delicious but I was a little heartbroken that they were out of fried okra. Everyone was really friendly too. If this is a bad summer for the crops, I can't wait to experience a great one.

Hey All, I've been lurking, and I know there's a few Knoxvillians around here, so I was hoping for some input on the best places to shop for food here. I've read through all the great threads on local restaurants and I'm slowly but surely checking them all out.

I've been lucky enough to arrive at peak summer produce season, so those Grainger County tomatoes have already won my heart. And a special thanks to 'Shallots' for mentioning Ritter Farms in a past post, we went there today and it was awesome! I'm also planning on going to the Market Square Farmer's Market tomorrow for the first time. But what to do in the off season, or for everyday shopping? I know some of the grocery stores have to be better than others. I live in the North Hills neighborhood (dangerously close to Fellini Kroger). I'd love to know where to go to get nice freshly baked breads and maybe some unusual cheeses and stuff.

Also, is anyone familiar with the food co-op on Broadway? It's pretty close to the house, and I've been meaning to go and check it out. Thanks to anyone who can help me out!

I work at 37th and 8th, and word on the street is that West Tandoori Club cleaned up their act. They classed the place up and I've been hearing good reviews from co-workers on the lunch combos, particularly the vegetarian combo. I've got to check it out soon. I went there for lunch once before and it was creepy inside and the food was not fresh.

I have to say I'm in agreement. I think it might be a bad idea for them to offer delivery at all because the type of food is really hard to keep nice and crispy through a car ride across the neighborhood. I did find that the delivery quality and service was better from the Park Slope location when I lived up there a few years ago. Has anyone dined-in at the Bay Ridge Chip Shop?

I know that this question was posed a while back, but since then a newer place has opened in Bay Ridge, which is where I live. "Brooklyn Bagels Cafe" is on the corner of 5th Ave and 87th St. I like them a lot, and I used to live right next to the Bagel Hole in Park Slope. These are better. They're enormous bagels, really huge. The service was awful when they first opened, but they're getting their act together. Sandwiches and deli meats from there are good too.

In March I ended up stuck late at night at the Brussels Midi station and ended up getting a room at the Hotel Ibis across the street. Too tired to wander around the neighborhood, we ate dinner at the hotel's restaurant. I forget the restaurant's name, it was nothing spectacular or creative, but it was a good meal and better than any of the train station fast food. I remember having some kind of pasta and my boyfriend ordered some kind of simply prepared steak with frites. It may be worth a try!
