Anniversary dinner recommendations

Not sure if it's the best suggestion for an anniversary, esp. as they don't take reservations, but I suggest considering Rose's Luxury. I had an absolutely fantastic meal there recently and I think it meets your requirements for bold and interesting flavors.

FWIW, I like City Zen and Fiola (although you should look at their menu to see if it interests you), I don't think Eve is quite as good, and I don't like L'Auberge Chez Francois at all.

Fine Dining in DC (near Grand Hyatt)

Tosca?

Iron Gate Inn

Ate here the other night (off the a la carte/patio menu not the fixed price/dining room).

We definitely enjoyed the meal, and I would go back, but I wasn't totally blown away. I think most of us ended up with various pasta dishes. No problems with service.

Take out that travels well?

Moby Dick or Taylor Gourmet maybe?

District of Pi - Report

I think the deep dish crust is made of cornmeal (which perhaps is why it seems less heavy to the OP).

It's a decent lunch spot too because they have a few different types of pie on "express" meaning it's not impossible to get in and out in an hour.

best casual italian in DC?

If you're looking for a traditional red sauce place, and the 'burbs are ok, then Olazzo in Bethesda is a decent option.

If you were forced to spend a big zero birthday working....

I think Rasika has a smaller room that you could probably get with a group of 10. It's very good if people are ok with Indian.

Cedar is underground and I think it may get underrated for that reason. I don't think it is any less festive than, say, Central. (I will admit I rarely go to Cedar but when I go I am happy.)

Cedar would certainly be quieter than Central, which I find to be a little loud.

I agree small plates is awkward with a big work group.

I had a nice lunch at Woodward Table the other day--might be worth considering. Bibiana is italian and a step down from Fiola, but might still be a little expensive.

Great market soup?

You might be able to get delivery/pickup from souper girl but she only has a couple soups a week (and it's not cheap).

$3000 minimum per couple at Minibar.

That was the old system-- the new system is they take reservations for 3 months at a time by email (and they say you need to specify Jose's table if that's what you are interested in).

Many? I'd be curious where.

Is Pasta Mia in Adams Morgan on the verge of closing?

My "foodie" card might get revoked for this (which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing) but I have fond memories of Pasta Mia.

I thought it was good pasta at affordable prices and we always enjoyed going there (although we did stop going when the wait got too long and our dining budget increased).

p.s. my memories date from the early 90s, and the article suggests they've been in that building since '91, so I am not sure if things were different in the 80s.

Vegetarian friendly restaurant near Metro Center?

Bibianna is a good suggestion, or you might look at Woodward Table.

best French restarant hear the Omni Shoreham hotel

Depends a little on what you are looking for when you say "French" (and maybe "near" too ;).

Central's menu doesn't really strike me as "French" but perhaps that's because as Daniel mentions the classic French is out of style. If you want steak frites you could go up to Medium Rare in Cleveland Park.

D.C. restaurants for a 23 y.o food lover

Tosca has a great pretheater menu too for $38.

side note: I do remember one time dining on a pre-theater menu (I believe it was 701) and service either was incompetent or did not believe we actually had theater tix because they disappeared for about 20 minutes after they served us coffee.

Thai by Thai's September special

One of the best dishes I had in Bangkok-- or anywhere for that matter-- was a peppery noodle soup with bits of fried something (pork?).

Brunch in MD?

Redwood isn't bad-- it has a small but decent buffet as well as some a la carte items. I like Black Market Bistro but they mostly don't take reservations.

Paladar is offering brunch but I haven't tried it (and would not assume much about food quality there).

Looking for quiet dinner spot near Bethesda or F.Hts Metro for 8 old friends to catch up

Yuzu is a new Japanese restaurant very close to the Bethesda metro. Perhaps because it is new it has been pretty quiet when I've been there.

Which DC/Md. liquor store has best range of liqueurs?

I was pretty impressed with the MoCo liquor store offerings in Bethesda too. Plus they have a handy online product search if you want to check before you go...

I wish Voltaggio was bringing that to FH instead of lunchbox.

Best chocolate milkshake in the DMV?

I got a black and white at Shake Shack and was a little disappointed-- seemed lacking in the chocolate (and maybe a little too sweet).

My kid tried a concrete and left over probably three-quarters of it, so that's not a particularly good recommendation.

Best chocolate milkshake in the DMV?

The prices in that juice place really do amaze me. I'd rather pay $7 for a chocolate milkshake that $10 for cucumber juice, but maybe that's a poor reflection on me.
