Mini Brioche in Calgary

Thanks everyone. I checked out the dinner rolls at superstore and safeway (both will have to do the trick), failing the homebaked version I will try to make this morning using a challa bread recipe.....
Speaking of bread - I can't get over the Superstore bakery - it may have the best baguette in they city (slathered with Dominique`s (Epicerie) foie gras - heaven). The olive boule or rosemary focaccia are also big box store delicious!

Mini Brioche in Calgary

Does anyone know where I can buy little brioches? I want to make mini burgers on Tuesday night and I am struggling with the bun. Failing that, there always seems to be a surplus of mini buns during stampede for little beef on buns... where can I get my sticky hands on a few dozen in January...

Thanks in advance!

Tasting Menus - Calgary

I second Chef's Table at the Kensington Inn! A very nice experience - very relaxed, plenty of time to rest between meals, oustanding food and atmosphere. You really feel apart of the kitchen. At the end of the night we were the last table in the resto and were offered digestifs from the maitre D as the line chefs were busy doing shots of the same while cleaning up. Very cool.
Never done the tasting menu at Muse, but have been there twice (both over a year ago) and was both times very disapointed with the food and the service. Although I do think the truffled popocorn is cute and often do at home on movie night with truffle oil and a spritzer.

One night only in Banff - Where to go?

Need a restaurant recommendation for Friday night. People have consistently recommeded Beaujolais to me, but I can't help thinking it looks very '80s french frou frou and I'll be disapointed. Any recommendations? Also a yummy breakfast recommendation on the run would be a bonus (even in Canmore) - something like perfect italian coffees and delicious baked goodies is my favourite?

Parisien Macarons - where to buy (Calgary)?

Thanks Sarah. I did try them at Nectar but found them a little soggy. Their homemade icecream however is too die for. Fleur de sel Caramel - OMG. Very rich - you only need one scoop. And at 18 dollars for a tub - it ought be savoured.
Will try L'Epicerie next time.

Parisien Macarons - where to buy (Calgary)?

Craving parisien macarons. Went to William & Sonoma as I saw them being sold online, but they don't sell them at their stores in Canada. Does anyone know where to get their sticky fingers on these delicious treats in Calgary?

I am thrilled to have so many helpful suggestions. I am re-arranging the "itinerary" based on your suggestions and it is looking like a winner! Boulette sample menus (breakfast and lunch) look fantastic - and I can still fit in Tartine. If Canteen is really worth it – then I will blindly book for lunch on Wednesday and move Yank Sing to Monday. And I am mapping out the cafés and patisseries that Carasen has suggested... I knew I still had more work to do....There are definitely not enough meals in a day!

Going to keep Tuesday's Ferry Building Market for breakfast lunch. I like JasmineG's and Weem's suggestions – picnic is perfect for us and if the late August tomatoes are good – I like to eat them like apples. Acme and Cowgirl seem a perfect foil to some of the heavier meals that week.

I'm really disappointed to hear about Greystone (who doesn't have dreams of taking a year off and doing soufflé over and over again until it's perfect) – but I'd hate to be disappointed on Saturday night (and the menu didn’t appear to be a "steal" or "gem"). So – I am going to replace that with Terra or Redd. I have been reading the threads on Martini House too… so a decision to be made between these three – really I think I cant go wrong.

Copia is out too. Thank you. Another mistake avoided. The website did look very commercial… Oxbow looks great perhaps as an alternative – plus more time to squeeze in a walk in di Rosa – Preserve which I was considering skipping…

Ok – Taylor Refresher is out. I saw it featured on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives"… (more fun, in my opinion, than Rachael Ray's show mind you...)

I`ve got to map this all out and have a look – but I cant thank you all enough. We are so excited… I know we are going to fall in love with the area and the food. It`s going to be great.
