Any thoughts on the major differences between sausages from these two fine establishments. I'm new to the area and always buy German sausages for my boy's birthday.

Petite Sirloin

Moved to the PacNorWest from East Coast by way of MidWest. All the grocers are pushing Petite Sirloin. I can't find this cut in any of my books or on any charts. What is it?

Scared about Salem

We are relocating from metro Boston to Salem and I am wondering about basic foodie questions. Is there really no Wholefoods or Trader Joes? Is there a cheese shop or a food coop? I read the 2008 posts about restaurants and feel a little sad. Where do people buy groceries? Apprehensively waiting a response.

Super88 is Dead... Long Live CMart?

I stopped by this Monday at the Allston location. Remodelling was ongoing and could not find any sriracha, fish sauce, panko, fresh noodles. Does anyone know if this is lights out for 88. I was less than happy after driving from metro West to stock up on my Asian cooking staples.

Upstairs or Rialto

Had planned on an anniversary dinner at Salts only to find out they are closed this weekend to attend a Food/Wine event in CO. Opinions about which is better Upstairs or Rialto. Couldn't get reservations for Craigie Street which I would prefer. Appreciate feedback on preferences.

Canned Apricots

Can anyone suggest a company or brand that still sells cans of whole, pitted apricots. My mother in law has been making divine spiced apricots for years but the brand she bought was aquired by DelMonte who discontinued whole apricots. --- Sorry to Chowhound Management I don't mean to bash DelMonte but you will probably pull this anyway. Oh for the days when Chowhounds wasn't owned by a corporation.

Apricots

Anyone know of the company that sells whole, peeled apricots in cans? My mother in-law makes delicious spiced apricots but can not find them in the Columbus, OH regions anymore. The company she bought from was purchased by DelMonte who discontinued selling the product. Much thanks.

Meat question

I've noticed at Whole Foods and the local supermarket that they offer "Natural Beef" for a premium. They are not organic. Here are the words used: No antibiotics or hormones, never fed animal by-product, strict vegetarian diet, fed only grains.

How does this differ from the "other" meat? I thought recent changes made usage of animal bi-products illegal for cows? Is this really the only difference... I know that chicken waste has been mixed into feed in the past.

If a cow makes a stop at a feedlot and is fed corn - a grain - it will require antibiotics for digestion so I don't understand how that cows could not receive antibiotics.

Out Post Farm

I've bought turkeys here for five years now and I am going to cry fowl. I noticed a refrigerated container truck backed up the loading dock one year and suspected that it was delivery of birds. Take a look around the property and you will find it hard to believe that they have the capacity to raise enough birds for the Thanksgiving day holiday. I specifically asked about when/where the slaughtering takes place and they claimed it was on site. I don't think they have the facilities, capacity or license from the state to slaughter and process birds. Makes me wonder if I've been paying a premium for a bird that comes from the same facility supplying Wholefoods, Shaws, etc...

Metrowest Addition

Had dinner at Sel de la Terre at the Natick Connection last Saturday. A welcome and much needed addition to Metrowest dining. Excellent food and much to my suprise excellent service. One mix up quickly addressed. Only thing close in MetroWest in Lumiere which is crowded, noisy and serves miserably small portions. Never wanted an addition to the mall but it did bring us a decent restaurant. Warning - parking is tough. People were still being seated at 9:30PM which is also a rare event in MW. Bacon tart, pork and date entree, scallop app. and haddock entree were great - interesting contrasts in flavors and richness.

Where to buy Kadai

I'm a Bostonian coming to Manhattan next week. I have been unable to find any stores in the Boston area that carry an Indian frying pan called a Kadai. Are there any recommendations where I could find a Kadai or other Indian cooking/serving pans in Manhattan. Thank you in advance.

Dinner around Lincoln Center

My wife and I are coming to NYC for Stoppard Coast of Utopia play at Lincoln Center. Any suggestions for a nice dining experience nearby during the break. By way of reference for NYC likes, we really enjoy Lupa for price and quality of food. We eat just about anything ranging from Sri Lankan, Vietnamese, Mexican, Italian, German, etc... Much thanks in advance.

Chorizo

There is a nice looking chorizo recipe in NYT today. Call for fresh uncured chorizo. Any ideas where I can get in the Boston area? I've have chorizo in Cambridge at a few Portuguese restaurants but I don't know about any Portuguese markets. Much thanks in advance.

Boston chowhound coming to Philly

Last dined in Philly five years ago. Truly enjoyed Italian at Tre Scalini. We also dined at a tiny place near the Jefferson Medical School and a small theater - name escapes me. What made it memorable was the fresh tuna - purchased off the dock in Barnegat Light, NJ.

Boston chowhound coming to Philly

I'm coming to Philadelphia in December for two dinners and two lunches. I dined in Philly when living in central NJ five years ago. I must say that I miss it compared to Boston fare which is more often overpriced and disappointing. I would love suggestions for fine dining. I am interested in chefs who are doing really creative things with food - not just steakhouse fare. Super fresh and creative seafood? Any chef's using lots of fine PA ingredients such as mushrooms or local produce and livestock? I eagerly await your input.

I heard mentioned that there is a small Italian restaurant in Newton that is quite "authentic" (whatever that means). Unfortunately I missed the name. Any ideas?
