Pizza in Conshy/Plymouth Meeting/Lafayette Hill I travel to Philly just to get Franzone's! its great, get it with pepperoni because the salty meat with the sweet sauce is the perfect combination! if its not for you I like the place next to Giant just down Ridge pike (argento's?) for their tomato pie, and decent pizza overall but i'll always get franzone's when i'm in the area |

How much of a beer snob have you become? add Troeg's to that list of micro's. Nugget Nectar is truly one of the best beers available (for the short time that it is) Terrapin is definitely coming along as well, and more widely available by the day it seems. |

Need Smoked Turkey in dowtown Pittsburgh what do they offer at Rosebud and do any of you buy lunches there? i've often walked by and am wondering if they make a quality sandwich or salad or anything I could grab at lunch |

Help! Transplanted to State College and can't find familiar foods... i would add Cozy Thai to the list, it is very good. Home Delivery for good strombolis and cheap beer. CC Peppers has great italian subs and cheesesteaks. Faccia Luna makes a red-stuffed pizza that is really really good. put sausage and onions in it and it will somewhat satisfy your deep dish craving. Golden Wok has the best egg rolls on the planet and good food but the lunch specials are a good value. Chicken with garlic sauce is probably the highlight. Clems is world-class barbecue. i would go to the one over Skytop for highest quality, only about ten minutes from downtown. And finally Wegmans can feed you with something different every day of the week. their beer selection is awesome! |

Finally, a Pittsburgh pizza for CT transplants it changed to Divine Pizza a year ago and closed a few weeks ago |

Franzone's in Conshy is the best pizza around. the second best is gianfranco's at third and market |
great list, I'll add Sierra Nevada Torpedo and Troegs Nugget Nectar. both are great, hoppy, and only $30-35 a case here in PA |

Pittsburgh Chowhounders get shout out in PG i was really disappointed with that column. philadelphia outpopulates pittsburgh 5 to 1 and has a very different way of life. philly has a restaurant scene, pittsburgh has restaurants that serve neighborhoods. there is hardly any destination dining. China Milliman does absolutely nothing to get the greater pittsburgh region excited or interested in dining and it shows in these generic columns that dont even mention a restaurant. i give her credit for writing but give us something more. new restaurants, openings, closings, specials, etc. take a page from Rick Nichols or Craig Laban, our counterparts |
what do you all recommend? any neighborhood, just not too far out |
I love T'Dori! by far the best turkey clubs and italian grinders in the area. |
The Melting Pot Fondue... [Moved from Midwest Board] Melting Pot is by far the worst restaurant in America. you could probably go to the fanciest restaurant in your town for cheaper. the food is terrible. you cook your own meat in one of four broths and have to judge the cooking time yourself making it impossible to do several at once. and they arent even good when they come out!m please go somewhere else for dinner and if you must, the melting pot for dessert. that is passable with the different chocolate combinations |
I don't care if I never set foot again in a............... Melting Pot! |
what about the vegetarian-only brunch on the southside that city paper said was the best in town? i forget the name but has anyone been? 26th and sarah i believe |

I had Troeg's Nugget Nectar tonight with my pizza and it was fantastic. The meaty, greasy pizza mixed with the floral hops and above average ABV was wonderful. the best beer of the year, I only wish all my local distributors didnt sell out in less than two weeks! |
bringing to a tasting tonight, anyone wanna comment? I love everything i have had from Lagunitas so that stout sounds very intriguing. what is the theme chocolate stout night? |
What seasonals are you drinking this winter? Troeg's Nugget Nectar!! I look forward to this beer all year and it came out last week. you all better hurry if you hope to get some. it goes quick. 7.5 % and oh so deliciously hoppy and floral. it truly is marvelous and only about $35 a case |

Which Brewpubs Have Good Food? Dock Street brewpub in West Philadelphia, good pizza, good beer, and they only serve pizza! |
Which Brewpubs Have Good Food? i gotta say i was unhappy at the Triumph brewery in philly. it was expensive and at the time, summer, neither the beer nor the food was any good. i apologize i cannot remember the beers but i did the sampler and had all that was available in late august and wouldn't have ordered a pint of any. |

Forget the others and go to John's Roast Pork, both for the best cheesesteaks and really great Roast Pork sandwiches (if only they had the garlicky broccoli rabe as Dinics). You will find the true nature of both sandwiches though and be very impressed. Definitely check out Jones with the kids. The food is good, drinks are great, atmosphere is fun, and definitely represents the Steven Starr kitsch if you don't make it to any of his other places. Although I really like El Vez for a fun time. For other sandwiches, I like NIck's Roast Beef on 2nd just below market for roast beefs. Check the Italian Market for grazing on pizza, taco's, and hoagies at Sarcones. You must make it Capogiro. Check the web for exact locations. |
