What Recent Meal "Blew You Away"?

We found little owl to be very average, what is all the fuss about?

i waited 1 hour for food at shake shack yesterday...

Bottom line is that the wait blows, but the burgers are very tasty- are they worth 1 hr on standing in line listening to inane conversations by fellow customers, no you just have to get your burger fix at odd hours.

BLT Market: a review

Had lunch there this weekend- basically everyone had burgers, very tasty def decadent. The service was perfectly pleasant, the only standout was that when we called for a 12 pm ressie there were none to be had, only 1 pm. Somehow on opentable there was a 12 pm so we went, the restaurant was half empty and only became full at 1 pm hmmm. Anyway perfectly pleasant, would go back.

Anyone been to Mia Dona?

my mother in law did, tasty but still on the heavy side- once again I thought the dinner was very good, but just too heavy- which is odd since I cook with butter freely and have yet to meet a cream sauce I did not like

Sick of the hassle of planning so far in advance...

Could not agree more, if I hear one more host tell me that they could sit is at 11 pm I'm going to scream... anyway I think a great go to is Crispo, they have splits of prosecco at the bar which are fun. I would also check out some of the greek establishments in town .

Uses for Jam and marmelades

Jams and marmalades make great glazes for meats- combine jam with some ginger garlic mustard and sherry on the stovetop heat until everything is melted and combined . You can add anything you can think of. Also, I use jams and marms as a first layer in fruit tarts creates a very yummy seal which prevents the crust from getting soggy.

Italian meal

I would go with some roasted birds either pouissons or smaller chickens, it makes a very dramatic presentation to have several birds on a platter- I would do a hi roast , put a ton of olives thyme and shallots in the roasting pan with some halved lemons- has a very med feel. With the pouissons you could also stuff sausage under the skin to keep them moist and add another level of flavor- especially one with a ton of fennel.

As far as dessert why don't you try a riccota chocolate cheesecake- make ahead and everyone always goes bonkers for it with some fresh fruit and a great italian dessert wine or sparkling wine

Beef Burgundy - Alternatives To Chuck?

Ina Garten does a recipe where she sears off filet steaks and then adds them at the end. The biggest issue you run into is cooking time so if you would like something lighter you need to incorporate the meat at a much later point

Leftover (good) Gruyere - uses?

Nothing better than left over cheese, you could make a mac n' cheese, fondue, quiche, latkes with cheese, also if you mash potatoes add some flour an egg nutmeg salt pepper and form a cake you dregde in flour, and cook it with some oil or butter it would be a meal unto itself.

Hounds - What are your three favorite Italian restaurants? I vote for Lupa, Felidia and Crispo. And any special dish that can't be missed? Thanks

The sides at crispo are awesome- especially, the cauliflower - also the small plates are worth ordering- our rule of thumb is eat very the little the day of dinner and then go bonkers
