Lunch Stop on the way to Hartford from NYC

Hi: Looking for a good place to stop for lunch on our way to Hartford this Saturday. I don't think we want Pepe's. Anything else is fair game including, great fried clams. Let me know what you got for me! Thanks!

Happy Hour in the Flatiron district?

Not the best and not exactly flatiron, but Haru on park ave south has a great cocktail hour menu for food and drink.

Cepes now?

I just returned from Paris and Cepes were all over the place. I for sure saw them at the Raspail market and on the menu at La Regalade St. Honore.

Is Leon OK for moules frites? Other suggestions for moules in the 6th welcomed.

Hi: Not looking for anything fancy tonight. Going on a boatride and then looking for some mussels and fries. I have seen a bunch of Leons. Thinking of heading to the one on Saint Germain. Thought/suggestions? Thanks!

So, far we have been to FISH (just OK), Regalade St. Honore (amazing), Le Bouchelem (darn good meat...couldn't get into Denise), Cuisine de Bar (delicious tartine lunch), Petit Plat near Notre Dame for lunch (perfect quiche/salad/soup), Lauduree (chocolat chaud...omg), Poilane (bread bread bread!).

Tomorrow is Chez Josephine and the next Le Chateaubriand! I love Paris!

La Regalade St Honoré, a very good memory!

We went tonight for dinner and had an almost identical experience. The service was great once you asked them for what you needed...can you please serve us our wine? "Of course!", "Can we get another carafe of water? "Absolutely.". etc.etc.

We too had a peice of cod that was so sality it was inedible. Everything else was divine...from the pate/cornichons, soups of pumpkin and mushroom/foie gras, the scallops served ceviche style, and the DESSERTS, omg! The rice pudding with salted caramel is in a league of its own. I too had the pots and they were amazing...as was the GM souffle.

A very memorable meal. The staff did not do anything about the salty fish, but the rest of the meal and experience made up for it.

7 days in Paris. What do you think?

Sorry to hear about your troubles!

Do you have any recs for Bordeaux or the very nearby area? We will be staying at The Regent and have 2 nights free for dinners. Nothing too high end as the third night is a gala event at a vineyard. Many thanks. JB

And btw, John, I read your blog and Nicky's Clam Bar is very near and dear to my heart. Been going since I was 6...now 38! I'm glad you were able to indulge even it was only on a few fried clams. And your choice of the Hideaway was the best you will get in Ocean Beach.

7 days in Paris. What do you think?

Thank you for your quick responses! I have been following your "France" posts for months, so I am honored that you all responded. (Just waiting for Souphie now) Comptior is on the list for lunch one day if we have time. No reservations, right? La Regalade was on the bigger list but we only have 7 nights. What would you get rid of in lieu of Regalade?

Can you tell me a bit more about Spring?

And what is the best way to get reservations at the restaurants? Email, phone, etc? My french is non-existent (sigh), but others in my party can get by.

We also have Sancerre for oysters and wine, 1778 for tea and Le Cremerie on the list if time allows.

What good and casual (walk-in) near the Eiffel Tower?

Is 8:30 too early for dinner? Do we really have to dine at 10pm to experience the "real" Paris.

Thanks again!

7 days in Paris. What do you think?

Hi:

We are three adults headed to Paris from NYC arriving October 2nd after a 4 night stay in Bordeaux. We will be staying at an apartment on Rue Cherche Midi while in town and would love some feedback on our restaurant choices. It will be my first time to Paris and the 4th for the others. We all consider ourselves foodies, so we are looking for some memorable meals. Thanks in advance!

Saturday - Chez Les Ami Jean
Sunday - Cheche Midi (Italian). We are staying across the street.
Monday - Lunch - Les Papilles, A nightime boatride and hoping for crepes somewhere for dinner???
Tuesday - Chez Denise
Wednesday - Spring
Thursday - Le Chateuabriand
Friday - Chez Josephine
