Dining after Pops concert at Lowell Auditorium ??

Concert was great. They had a group called Rockapella that performed which was very entertaining.

AS for the restaurant, It turned out that LaBoniche was not open, so we ended up at Cobblestones. Food was fair to good, so maybe a little better than mediocre, but that may have to do with what we ordered, Had the braised short ribs which were tender and well prepared allthough there wasn't much flavor to them I also had the onon soup which was excellent They did run out of several items on the menu. That didn't impact us, but not what I'd expect considering how busy it was and almost exclusively reservations. All in all I'd probably not go back again.

Dining after Pops concert at Lowell Auditorium ??

Show ends about 4:30 - 4:45 so looking to eat around 5:00. One place I have heard of is Cobblestones, but don't know anybody who has eaten there. The menu looks pretty good. Has anyone tried it ?

Dining after Pops concert at Lowell Auditorium ??

Will be attending the Xmas Pops concert this Sunday at the Lowell Auditorium and looking for a good restaurant within walking distance of the auditorium for a post concert relaxing meal. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks !!

River Merrimac Bar and Grill

Gary,

Thanks for the reply. We did not go to the River Merrimac, but ended up at Glenn's and had an excellent meal. I still want to try it, but we only get up that way a couple of times a year, so it will have to wait, probably in the Spring.

River Merrimac Bar and Grill

Heading up to Newburyport next weekend and was wondering if anybody has eaten at the River Merrimac Bar and Grill or has heard anything at all about it. They took over the space once occupied by Rossi's, but I haven't heard anything about the restaurant since they opened. Thanks for any feedback.

Restaurants Camden Maine Area

Thanks. Sounds good. I'll let you know how the inn is and how dinner was. Plus I'll report on the other places in Camden and surrounding towns where I hope to eat which were mentioned in this thread.

Restaurants Camden Maine Area

Capebeach,

I will be staying at the Hartstone Inn towards the end of Sep't. I have never stayed there before and was wondering what your thoughts were of the Inn and if you ate at their restaurant how your meal was and what you ate. Thanks !!

Pignone's Cafe Stoneham

I went there about 2 weeks ago for a quick breakfast on my way down Rt 28. I heard about it on Chowhound and figured I'd give it a try. Glad I did.

The staff was pleasant and I spoke to one of the owners as I grew up in Stoneham and knew the family name. It turns out she is a cousin of a guy I went to high school with. Small world. Now, for the food. I only got bacon, eggs, toast and home fries, but they were very good, especially the home fries. The service was good and they were fairly busy for a 10:30 breakfast. You could tell there were a number of regular customers there that morning and I can see why. I will definitely be going back.

Stonewall Kitchen Holiday Jam

Also at the Paper Store in Reading if that is closer for you.

Anything on Masa in Burlington Yet ?

I was in the restaurant this past week and it looks great. The owner confirmed that they will open this Friday, 12/12.

Essems Hot Dogs - where can I get them north o Boston?

The Market basket in Burlington used to sell the Essem kielbasa, but haven't seen it for some time. It is far better than the Hillshire Farms brand they now carry. Do you know if the Billerica store carries it ??

Anybody tried Mia's or the Blue Elephant in Saco maine ??

I enjoyed the Lily Moon cafe in Saco for both breakfast and lunch. Unfortunately it closed a couple of years ago. I understand that Mia's is now in their location and the Blue Elephant, which is also relatively new, is across the street. The Blue Elephant's prime business appears to be catering, but they also serve breakfast and lunch I believe. Has anybody tried either of these and if so what are your thoughts. Thanks !!

Ristorante Olivio in Arlington

Thanks for mentioning the pasta sampler. The sampler on Saturday was a two pasta sampler, spinach pasta with a duck ragu and papperdelle with bolognese sauce. The pasta with the duck ragu was excellent. They offered an appetizer special beet salad that two people in the party had and both loved it. For the main meal. one person had the salmon special and another had the butternut squash ravioli and again both loved their meals. Overall an enjoyable experience and a place where I will return.

Ristorante Olivio in Arlington

Going there Saturday evening for the first time and I was wondering if any chowhound had been there and if so, what your experiences were and if there was any dish you would recommend. Thanks !!

Anybody Know Where I can Find a Good Lemon Merangue Pie

Thanks for all your input on this. It turns out I bought a very good lemon merangue pie at Roma's Bakery in Woburn square at the reccommendation of my neighbor. Not quite as tart as I prefer, but it drew raves from everyone else on Easter.

Best Key Lime Pie?

SSqwerty,

Couldn't find a web site for them. Can you tell me where Houston's is ?? Thanks !!

Anybody Know Where I can Find a Good Lemon Merangue Pie

Looking to pick up a lemon merangue pie and I just can't seem to find a good one. Prefer a bakery pie over one sold at a supermarket. At one point Harrows in Reading sold them, but not any longer. Anybody know any place in the Burlington area that has them ??

L'Andana Burlington Last night 11/05/2007

My wife and I went there last night and I found some things to be good and some things to be just OK. The service was friendly and attentive and and I did not experience any of the problems you found. Our waitress was very helpful and we received our drinks within about 5 minutes. There was no delay in serving our meals.

We shared the prosciutto with mozzrarella and a tomato vinigarette primi and it was very good. I had the rigatoni and bolognese pasta dish and it was also very good. By wife had a duck special that she absolutely loved. The wine was also good with a decent number of selections so no problem there.

I had a new item on the menu, the porterhouse pork chop and it was only fair. It was a good inch and a half thick and served with polenta and an apple and onion topping. Not something I would order again as there was little flavor to it and it was not the leanest chop I have ever had. In fact Georgie D's in Stoneham serves a better chop for half the price. Overall, it was expensive, but I didn't think it was way out of line considering the atmosphere, service and the quality of the food. I found it to be comfortable and relatively quiet despite being completely full. For me the location is also a real plus as I live in Burlington and it sure beats driving into Boston.

Overall a good experience and we would go back, but I would try something other than the chop next time.

Where Can I Find Good Gingerbread

Thanks for the feedback. Gingerbread Construction Co. it is.

Where Can I Find Good Gingerbread

Looking for a place in the Burlington area where I can pick up good gingerbread as I'm too lazy to make it. Prefer a lighter version without all heavyness that you find in some gingerbread. None of the local bakeries make it. I have heard that Whole Food's is pretty good, but not aware of anyplace else that sells it. Can anyone help ?? Thanks !!

Ogunquit recs

Do you know the name of the restaurant and when it is expected to open ?? Thanks !!

The Capital Grill is now open and a new high end Italian restaurant on Rt 3A is due to open in the Fall. It would be nice to have another place in town rather than just the normal chains.

Best place around Kennebunkport

I've been to Hurricane 3 rimes and all were excellent experiences. The food was very good, the service great, atmosphere relaxing plus they have a have a good wine list. I've been to Grisini's but not for a couple of yeras as they were not all that consistent and I prefer the Hurricane. Can't go wrong there.

Is there ANYTHING good near UConn?

Agree that Willington House of Pizza and Kathy John's are about the two best places local to UCONN other than the Dairy Bar ice cream cream emporium on campus. I travel between Boston and Conn fairly frequently and as a UCONN alum I visit the campus whenever I get the time. I wish there were more places close to campus, but it's pretty barren in terms of decent food. I usually stop at Reins Deli on route 84 in Vernon which is about 20 minutes from campus and eat there. Not great but decent and it has a good selection of deli style food.

Georgie D's- Finally Got There! Long

Also at Georgie D's last night. We were in the back or larger room which gave us more room. This was our first time there and I was impressed. My wife and I split a caprese salad which as you mentioned was very good. I had Ernie's pork chop - a good portion of pork with the bone and it came with thinnly sliced potatoes, peppers/onions and a nice gravy/sauce/reduction. It was excellent !! My wife had Georgie/s pork chop with apricot stuffing, whipped potatoes and seasonal veggies. Also very good. I was stuffed but decided to try their canolies. This was the only disappointing part of the meal as they just didn't measure up to what you can get in the North End. C'est la vie. The owner did drop by and asked if this was our first time there and I answered our first, but not our last as I would definitely go back again. Overall a very pleasent experience.

Tre Monte, Legal Seafoods and Zalek's. Guess which was superior by far..(long) .

Glad to read your review of Zaleks and your comparisons to Legal. My wife and I dropped over last Sunday around 2:30 for a light meal just because we were in the Wakefield area. I had eaten there before, but this was the first time for her. She had the special which was a fillet of sole with the pineapple jasmine rice and I had the New England seafood pie. Her comment about half way thru her meal was that it was better than Legal. My seafood pie was great and had a nice portion of haddock with shrimp, scallops and lobster in a bread crumb covering. This was one of the best seafood pies I have had. Better than Legal and at half the price. You can't go wrong. Can't wait until the Summer to try their grilled fish.

Lobster Shack Cape Elizabeth-What's the big deal?

We ate there twice last week and the first day I had the lobster roll which was very good. My wife had the haddock plate which I had the second day. She thought the haddock was "good but not great" and mine was only fair. I expected better. So I have to agree with you that it doesn't meet it's reputation. The last time I ate there was about 10 years ago (all I had then was the lobster roll) but my memories were that the food was much better then than it was last week. I might go back for a lobster roll if I was in the area but definitely not for the haddock. On the plus side, the view is just as great now as it was then.

Dining in the Saco, ME area

I found this old thread from 4 years ago, but was wondering if anybody has any updates to it as the info may be outdated. Is Lily Moon's still open ? Have any new places you would recommend opened up since the original 2002 post ?
