That's great - as long as the food is satisfying we will be happy. We've been to too many places where the amount of $$ you spend on "food" is inversely proportional to the quantity you receive....

Patowmack Farms looks fabulous. It has everything I am looking for in "a place with a view" including overlooking the water. Can you tell me a bit more about the food and portion sizes? I am also open to more suggestions for restaurants in an urban setting!

Just for general information - we found Bombay Club to be a fabulous special occasion place - very relaxed ambiance, live piano and pretty good food. Weekends feature an unlimited champagne buffet which does not break the bank, but is a perfect for those who want to sample a bit of everything.

We have been MoCo residents for close to two years now....and while we are foodies, our typical eating out adventures have not led us (yet) to fancy places. For our anniversary, I'd like to treat the Mrs. to a nice, long, relaxing meal in a restaurant preferably with a view. This can be in DC or Baltimore.

Couple pointers:
> We love generous portion sizes
> We are vegetarian (no fish, no meat).

Additional info: We have 3 days in Vegas, Thu, Fri and Sat. Thursday - the hope is to get some good dinner - before we hit the clubs while Friday and Saturday can be anything - based on your recommendations.

Chowhound has been good so far for me - so here I am, trying it again. A bunch of us are headed to Vegas for Thanksgiving - and we are looking for some recommendations about where to eat without burning a hole in our pockets ! A couple points:

1) Everyone is a vegetarian - ( not vegan)
2) Local cuisines, flavors are welcome
3) Buffets are welcome too - have read enough about vegas to know that it is known for its buffets

I found no Trinidadian place on 106th. It was on 160th. So is Pho Tang. Did I miss it or is it just a typo ? I went to SW 106th and it first took me to a residential complex, then i did an intersection for US-1 ans 106th on the GPS and it took me to a funeral home :D :D. Finally I tried 160th and it took me to Caribbean Delite. Thanks though - i will definitely be visiting Miami again !

What a fantastic trip !! We managed to go to Gourmet Carrot, iHop (because restaurants in Kendall close early :( :( :( ) , Blue Heaven & Willie T's in key West, Caribbean Delite Restaurant, Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant and Pizzeria Blu. These were all fantastic places - enjoyed them thoroughly. Thanks for all your help !!!

Thank you all for your replies. I have checked out most of the places and they seem like fun !! I had someone recommend cuban food near the port of miami - is there a particular one that's good or I can just visit any ?

We toured SF in the summer eating at the places recommended by CHOWhounders and oh boy ! did we enjoy them at minimal hits to the pocket ! I did try and "give back" by posting recommendations and my own reviews of the places - so here I am trying it again.

What I mean by budget:
We are a bunch of college students on Spring Break - however with the flights and hotel the trip budget is almost hitting its limit. We need some recommendations as to which restaurants we can hit - without losing out on "local flavour" so as to speak. An occasional restaurant which shouldn't be missed out on but may be a bit pricey is also ok. We are there for 4 nights - so it should be enough time to sample a lot of places !

What I mean by veggies:
Well most of us eat vegetarian food (no meat) so as long as a place serves us something - it is going to be ok. For e.g. seafood restaurants never have any veggie options - however, you get "veggie sushi" in some Japanese restaurants. I don't know if this example is good enough but I hope I get my point across !

We are plannign on coming down next weekend - so all and any replies will be appreciated !!

Thank you all for the wonderful inputs. Tonight being the last night in SF, I'd like to share what we ended up doing...
First, though, the burger place was solely for the boca burger and milkshake, but it was stricken down by a unanimous vote by the other three travellers !
We've ended up having lunch at A La Turca - abt $60 with tip and it was pretty good food. Very filling and at the price, it was very affordable. Shady neighbourhood if you approach it from the Van Ness side (the other side is Union Square) but very good restaurant and ambience. An evening "snack" was at Ghirardelli's Ice-cream shop - yummy sundaes and ice-creams. However, enter the place that is actually in Ghirardelli Square - which is up on a hill. There is a smaller branch shop down on the road at the bottom of the hill iwth not half as many choices. Dinner was at Rainforest Cafe at the Fisherman's Wharf. Expensive, only burgers/ pasta as the veggie choice. But absolutely wonderful ambience....all those who eat all kinds of food SHOULD head there. Today's lunch (day 2) was at Burma Superstar - go early, the wait is long. Foodwise - I had the tea salad, sumosa soup (5/5 for these) and some vegetable with tam poi - (rice side dish). The veggie was so-so but the rice was pretty good. Damages ~ 65 for 4, with tip. Not bad, again.
Dinner was at the Metreon - mall food. I had a Portobella Buck sandwich at the Buckhorn Grill....its good comfort food. Oily, and tasty :D
Tomorrow is going to be Zeni's Ethiopian Food and hopefully, I'll come out of it as I have come out of the other places - with a full stomach and a good memory !

Ceekskat - we'll be more in SF than in SJ so most of the restaurant's I've looked at are in SF. I will try making it to Zeni though...

Me and my buddies are landing in SF for the 4th of July weekend. We're all foodies, but being students, can't spend loads per head for a meal. Also we're vegetarians (not vegans - only no meat / fish )- so as long we get a veggie version of a food we're ok. Also, we're big breakfast and dessert people - so tips on that would be welcome too.
