Pesach - Tarrytown Doubletree Hilton

That is correct. The hotel is actually quite nice; my complaints are strictly related to the caterer.

Pesach - Tarrytown Doubletree Hilton

FYI, the program at the Hilton was a non-kitniyot program, so the ketchup (which contains corn syrup) was not KFP. Your link is to a Sephardic Rabbi's blog; Sephardim eat certain kitniyot on Pesach.

Pesach - Tarrytown Doubletree Hilton

A few weeks ago I posted a question asking if anyone had been to this program last year hosted by Sovah Caterers. I received no responses and got a little suspicious. My in-laws thought this would be a good place to go for Pesach since it was within the Metro area and was "reasonably" priced. My wife and I did our due diligence with the caterer and were told that the Mashgichim for this program were trained and approved by the OU since the kitchen at the hotel was an "OU kitchen." We all decided to go even though I felt we were taking a chance since we really new nothing about the caterer. The Kashrus did not seem to be an issue based on what we were told.
In the end, the whole thing was a disaster. The food was awful for the most part. The "tea room" did not exist. The service was terrible compounded by the fact that the caterer was in way over their heads and had an attitude. Unfortunately, there were also a number of obvious kashrus issues, which when brought to the attention of the mashgichim, were ignored. (I found a bottle of Heinz hetchup out in the open in the dining room; no comment from the mashgiach how that happend). I called the OU this week and found out they had never trained any of the mashgichim for this program. I even spoke to the OU Rabbi who (according to the caterer) supposedly trained the Mashgichim and he told that this was totally untrue.
Here's the kicker--the caterer has everyone pay their bills in CASH, so there's absolutely no recourse. Bottom line - If anyone out there even thinks about going to anything where Sovah Caterers is providng the food, don't just walk way; run as fast as you can!

Pesach - Sovah Catering

We're thinking about actually going away for Pesach this year and my wife noticed a program at the (formerly) Rye Hilton advertised by Sovah Catering. They say they still have space available; the ad says they were at that location last year.
Does anyone have any experience with this caterer? Did anyone go on last year's Pesach trip? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Why can't the Y.U. student body support a good take-out place?

At Stern, my daughter is is one of the dorms, so the sitaution is quite different. Most of my daughter's friends DID share their leftover balances at the end of the year and they were still left with extra funds. To describe the food at Stern as "a nice variety of quality food" is pushing it a bit as well. At best the food is passable.

Perhaps but at least at SUNY Binghamton, which another of my kids attended, the meal plan rolled over from yesr to year until graduation. In addition, if you saw that you were constatntly rolling over funds from one term to the next, you could get a cheaper meal plan for the next term. YU does not give thtat option to the students.

YU also pulls another fast one on its students: if the student has any money left over on his/her meal plan at the end of the spring semester, that money does NOT roll over to the next year's fall semester; it goes back to YU!!! What a deal (for YU that is)!

King David - Cedarhurst

King David seems to have closed down; anybody know what happened?

IMHO, they became very customer unfriendly over the last year or so; I'm not sure they will be missed.

Kosher in Newport Beach CA

The JCC in Irvine (reasonably close to Newport Beach) had a Kosher Cafe when I was in Irvine a few years ago. It was under the hashgacha of the Vaad of Orange County. You should contact the JCC and see if the cafe still exists. As far as I know there are no other places to eat anywhere else near there.

Anyone try Bistro Grill's 5 Town's $8 specials?

My wife ordered them over the phone and asked that they be ready at 7 PM. On my way home from work I stopped off there (at about 6:55) and the sandwiches and fries were waiting for me (piping hot).

There's no takeout section. I went to the rear of the restaurant (near the bar) and my stuff was on the bar awaiting pickup.

My wife and I split a steak sandwich and a grilled checken sandwich. They were both huge and excellent.

Business lunch

I have an important business lunch tomorrow with two non-Jewish clients. My office is closest to Le Marais. I haven't been there in a while. Is this a good choice? I really enjoy Wolf & Lamb and I'm confident that would make a good impression but it's a bit of a walk from my office.

Glatt Kosher Kingdom

You need to be really careful regarding prices when you shop at GKK. Just got back from there - I bought just a few items but was charged the wrong price on a bunch of them. When I told the cashier that I was charged the incorrect price she eventually (after much deliberation) charged me the correct price but it seemed that no effort was made to change the price in the computerized cash register system. Certainly makes the entire shopping experience more annoying than it needs to be.
