Do you Yelp? (Moved from Kentucky & Tennessee board)
I like this board and am a member of Yelp as well. Just wanted to know if anyone else on here Yelps? I wish this board had as much activity as the other.

Memphis & Nashville
I like Grill 83, located in the Madison. There are lots of small plate options, good for sharing, and you can order as much (or as little) as you like to stay within your budget. (Get the TN Blues Fries if you go!)
Memphis: In search of the best combination of Q and easy access/parking
Ditto what Clarkafella said, although I do love me some Corky's.
Can you name this discontinued 80's snack food?
Came across this thread during my own little search. Does anyone remember Topples? I think they were made by Keebler and they were little triangular chips with pizza-like toppings.
Vietnamese Restaurant in Collierville TN
I haven't Chris, but I hear it's an off-shoot of Saigon Lee, which I am very fond of. Maybe I'll make the drive this weekend and finally give it a shot.
do you know the ruth's chris stuffed chicken recipe?
At work now, so can't listen to this, but I'm so excited to have the recipe! Thank you for posting!!!!

Top 5 Memphis places to eat!
I had the tandoori chicken at Bombay House - it was just okay - will have to try what you had. Dining alone stinks -- I'm with you on that one. I usually get whatever to go -- beats sitting alone in a booth somewhere with a book!

Trip to Memphis from Central Florida - where to eat?
My favorites around town:
Tops BBQ (lunch)
Bryant's (breakfast)
Dinos (Meat + 3)
Four Way (Soul Food)
Gus's Fried Chicken
Central BBQ or Corky's on Poplar (the original location) -- you have to have some BBQ nachos while you're in town!
Los Tortugas is very good, authentic Mexican fare too, as someone else mentioned.
Hope this helps to point you in the right direction. Enjoy your visit to Memphis!

Maharaja Cafe: Best Indian in Memphis!!
Thanks for the tip - their menu looks good & is, indeed, very inexpensive!
Done the research- how does this sound--Memphis in August
Glad you had a great trip and survived the heat!
Where can I buy European butter?
Do you have a Fresh Market there? I saw some there, but have never used it.
Whats For Dinner? Part XLII
Crockpot pork carnitas verde with black beans and Mexican rice.
Pot roast help, please
I just mix 1 can french onion soup with 1 can golden mushroom soup and pour it over the roast. It makes a really good gravy.
Memphis Restaurant and Blues...........
I don't know off the top of my head of anywhere that offers this on a consistant basis, but the Commercial Appeal has a section on Fridays that lists where live music is happening.

Cypress Inn is in Tuscaloosa, Alabama -- it's on the Black Warrior River and everything on the menu is divine. Not Erling Jensen-fancy, but just well executed and delicious. We do a lot of football games down there, but I would make a trip down there just to eat.
I love Erlings, too. The dover sole, lobster pancake, and buffalo tenderloin are my favs!
Great Steak Dinner in Knoxville?
We eat at Regas every time we're in Knoxville and always leave with nothing but positive things to say! Give it a go and see for yourself.

Recommendations for cross-country road trip
If you're coming through Memphis, there are plenty of non-fried, non-bbq options. My favorite is Dejavu - down-home creole/cajun cooking. The first location (downtown-ish) is very small. They just recently opened a second location that is much bigger and just as good.
Italian-wise, I recommend Frank Grisantis on Poplar in the Embassy Suites (It's close to 40) -- the Grisanti family has a few restaurants here, though, so check them all out online if you really like Italian and choose for yourself (Spindini, Elfos, Judd Grisanti's Trattoria)
This is not particularly close to 40, but Restaurant Iris is exceptionally good. The chef there was nominated for the James Beard award and it seems to be the "it" restaurant right now. Their menu is also online for your perusal.
Good luck with your move!

Memphis Vegan/Dairy-free
Dejavu is a FANTASTIC restaurant. I suggest getting there a little early (11:30) or arriving a little late (1-1:30) to avoid the high-noon lunch crowd, as this place only has about 6-8 tables.
Sides for steamed lobster?
I know this post is old, but I plan on serving my lobster with a creamy spinach risotto and button mushrooms sauteed w/shallots and white wine
Springfield-Style Cashew Chicken served in SoCal??
Glad to know I'm not the only one who is obsessed with this stuff. When's everyone else going to catch on????
The Sad Decline of Dreamland in Tuscaloosa
The old black lady that founded it has since retired and family has taken over. The quality has been compromised, but the sauce is for sale and as good as always.
100 Best Dishes in Alabama
I don't have an extensive eating record in Alabama, but Cypress Inn is where I would consume my last meal on earth. (And be prepared; I would gorge myself):
Cypress Inn Must-Haves
Crab claws
Smoked chicken w/white bbq sauce
Catfish w/in house tartar sauce
Prime Rib
Mashed Potatoes
Country Club Squash
Gumbo
Damn...even their salads are awesome.
Jim and Nick's BBQ............
I have not eaten there, but everyone seems to love their pimento cheese. Perhaps he could order that and then go down the road a bit to the Corky's here and get some BBQ Nachos (my fav). My favorite BBQ in town, though? Tops, hands down. He can get off at Sycamore View and experience one of the finest BBQ sandwiches in town. (psst - no slaw & get the spicy sauce!) Also some of the best hamburgers, too.
Question regarding fajitas
I think the above marinade sounds great....perhaps just a drop of liquid smoke to get that extra flavor.
Done the research- how does this sound--Memphis in August
Let me say this about Restaurant Iris - it's PHENOMINAL. The chef was nominated for the James Beard Award and his Surf & Turf (google it) was mentioned on Food Network's "Best Thing I Ever Ate"
Just sayin' ... I know fine dining is plentiful, but Restaurant Iris is something special.
