Andrina's Pizza - Arlington - Best pizza I have had in MA

Thanks for this post! I'll be right by Andrina's tonight. Do you know if they sell slices? Their website only lists prices for whole pies.

Why no love for Le's in Allston?

My husband and I ate at Le's in Allston last night after reading about it in a Chow round-up of Allston's "gourmet ghetto" and seeing lots of positive reviews online. We were totally disappointed. The food we got tasted like mediocre Chinese-American food, not like Vietnamese food at all. Have they declined in quality? I'm baffled why it has such rave reviews. It wasn't the light, fresh, flavorful food we were hoping for. What's good on the menu, besides the pho?

Mexican on Cape Cod

Circling back on this. We used El Guapo's to cater our wedding rehearsal dinner in Brewster last week. It was excellent! Kyle, the owner, was great and the food was delicious. We picked up the platters from them and the portions were over the top. We ordered food for 25 guests, but could have easily fed 35-40. We got chips/guac/salsa; assorted burritos, quesadillas, and enchiladas; sides of Mexican corn, sauteed veggies, and rice. Great comments from our friends and families. The cost was about $400 total, which is a good deal at $16/person for a rehearsal dinner, plus tons of leftovers! I'm so happy this worked out and that Guapo's was open this late in the season. Will definitely be patronizing them next summer!

North End private dining for 25-30?

Helping a colleague in Minnesota coordinate a dinner in the North End for a group of 25-30 who will be in Boston for business. They are staying at the Fairmont Battery Wharf, and I'm told many are "foodies". She had read about Piccolo Nito (I haven't been) - your thoughts? Any suggestions welcome! Bricco? Lucca?

I did check previous posts, but none I found were recent.

Thanks!

Dinner in Burlington

Please report back on where you ate and how it was. I'm headed to Burlington for the first time in October and am looking for dinner suggestions, too. Thanks!

Mexican on Cape Cod

Alas, I just emailed El Guapo again and they ARE open until Halloween, so I will likely use them. The girl I spoke with previously was misinformed. Thanks for the replies and suggestions!

Mexican on Cape Cod

Will check out George's the next time I'm on the Cape. Looks like we could order a bunch of grinders and salads. That might work.

Has anyone worked with Treats Catering in Dennis? They have a nice looking tapas menu...

Mexican on Cape Cod

I was hoping to have El Guapo in Brewster cater an event this October, but learned they close on Columbus Day weekend. So, now I'm looking for an alternative. Anejo in Falmouth looks great, but is a little far away. I'm not totally set on Mexican, but am looking for something reasonably priced for about 30-40 people. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Old Sea Pines Inn, Brewster - opinions?

Shifting gears from a wedding possibly in Ptown to Brewster at the Old Sea Pines Inn. Looking for opinions on their food and/or wedding experiences. Many thanks!

Provincetown wedding venue recs?

Thanks! We're only expecting about 50 guests, so hopefully the cap isn't lower than that! Just out of curiosity, what were some of the places in P'town you looked into?

Ptown Parties' menus look great! Now I just need a venue...Looked into the PAAM, but they don't allow red wine or dancing, so that won't work.

Provincetown wedding venue recs?

Trying the GB board, since I just got one response on the Southern New England board...I'm hoping to have my wedding in P'town this fall (Oct/Nov). Can anyone recommend a nice venue that has great food? Your thoughts on Provincetown Inn, Red Inn, Brass Key, or any other suggestions is much appreciated. Thanks!

P'town wedding - venue with incredible food

Hoping to have my wedding in P'town this fall (October or November). Can anyone recommend a reception venue with really good food? Or a caterer? This is for a smaller group, maybe about 50 guests. Open to any ideas! Thanks in advance!

new places last 2 yrs?

Thank you, barleywino, for posting this question! I moved from Seattle to Boston about two years ago, am going back for a visit later this month. Was just about to ask the same question.

Will definitely check out Tavern Law. Any Seattlites have thoughts on Bar Ferd'nand in the Melrose Market? A friend is working there, so I'm hoping to check that out, too.

Provincetown

It's been a while, but I liked Napi's the last time I ate there. http://www.napis-restaurant.com/

Ross' Grille is also good and right on the water, although I just noticed their website says they're opening for the season on April 22. http://www.rossgrille.com/provincetown-bistro-dinner-menu

Have fun!

Event spact/private dining in Metrowest

Starting to think about my dad's 70th birthday this fall. Can anyone recommend an event space or restaurant with private dining room for a group of approx. 30-50? Ideally near Westboro, Marlboro, Framingham, etc. Thanks!

Cookware/kitchen shops in Boston

Bostonians, where do you go to shop for kitchen supplies and cookware? I live in Brighton and Sur La Table in Chestnut Hill seems to be the closest to me. But, I'm interested in shops in the Greater Boston area, not just close to my home. A Google search turned up Kitchen Arts, which has closed. If possible, .I'd prefer to hear about independent or local shops, versus Williams Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, etc. Many thanks!

New Year's Eve suggestions?

Thanks, all!

MC Slim JB, you're probably right...I used to work in the industry and am shocked that I'm even thinking about dining out on NYE.

barleywino, did you used to live in Seattle? I did, and your handle seems familiar from the PNW board.

New Year's Eve suggestions?

With Christmas well behind us, it's time now to plan for New Year's Eve. Are there any great places to go in Boston that aren't overpriced on NYE? Looking for a celebratory dinner for two at an upscale restaurant or even a high-end bar experience. Not looking for a five course pre-fixe menu for $160 plus sparkling wine pairings for another $80. Open to any neighborhood or cuisine. Any ideas? Thanks!

Palm Beach area recs?

Thanks for the suggestions. I was just on the Lonely Planet guide to WPB and found these two spots:
Leila (Middle Eastern cuisine) - http://www.leilawpb.com/
Hotel Biba's wine bar - http://www.hotelbiba.com/winebar.htm

Any thoughts on these two places? Thanks!

Hot alcoholic drink suggestions

Headed to the Patriots game on Sunday night and fully expecting to freeze my arse off. So, I thought I'd bring a hot beverage instead of drinking beer slushies. Any suggestions? The first ideas that came to me were either a hot toddy or coffee enhanced with a mix of Kahlua, Baileys, and Frangelico. But, is there anything I can make a Thermos of and bring to the game? I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks!

Palm Beach area recs?

My boyfriend's family lives in NPB, and we've been visiting a few times a year. Looking for recommendations in the area - West Palm Beach, North Palm Beach, Jupiter, etc. Last time we went to Guanabanas and it was pretty fun with an atmosphere that we don't get in Boston. What are some places with really good food? And, are there any places that have more local fare instead of standard bar and grill eats? Thanks!

December Markets, CSAs, Farm Stands, etc. [old]

I signed up for Shared Harvest's winter CSA, with one pick up on Nov. 20 and one Dec. 18. The first puck up contained two big boxes pf produce, one pound dried beans, one bag of apples, three heads lettuce, plus we added on extras in the form of five local cheeses. You could also add on eggs and maple syrup. The produce included turnips, leeks, potatoes, onions, garlic, acorn squash, carrots, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, baby book choy, and more. Looking forward to our next pick up later this month!

Grocery store with bulk section?

I'm looking for a grocery store with a good bulk foods section. I moved back here from Seattle and haven't found a grocery store comparable to where I shopped there. Any ex-Seattlites are probably familiar with the Ballard Market or Thriftway stores. Where in Boston can I get bulk cereal, flours, lentils, candy, nuts, and dried fruit? Is there a local chain I'm missing?

Brisket - locally raised

Thanks for all of your replies. I emailed River Rock but got no reply. Just tried to email Chestnut Farms via their CSA sign up (no other contact info is listed on their website), so will wait to hear from them, but may phone Blood Farms. I'll let you know what my results are.

Brisket - locally raised

Looking for recs on where I can buy locally raised, non-CAFO brisket. I'm a vegetarian so never buy meat, but am cooking for my dad's birthday. Is there a grocery store or butcher you recommend? Or a farm near Boston? I'm in Brighton.

Brooklyn Heights tonight

Will be arriving in Brooklyn Heights tonight around 9-10pm and staying near Henry/Pineapple (I think). Any recommendations for a place nearby to grab a late night bite and drink? Thanks!

Twitter/Facebook + restaurants/bars

Holy cow! I can't believe someone finally replied to my post. I posed this question over a year ago and got no response. I was asking generally, not geared to Seattle restaurants. I'm actually in Boston now. In the past year, the use of social media for restaurants has really blown up. Thanks!

westborough lunch

In downtown Westboro there's Tavolino and Ted's Montana Grill in Bay State Commons. Also in downtown is Hisa Japanese restaurant and a few other little diners (South Street Diner and Christina's Cafe, both OK, but not super special). On Route 9 west of where you'll be is Harry's (diner). On Route 135 is JP's - good lobster rolls and pub food, but not much in the way of vegetarian. I'd go for either Tavolino or Hisa.

Cambridge Street, Allston

We ended up going to Yoma and really enjoyed it. Thanks for all the recommendations. Will definitely check out some of the other places in this area. Oh, we also ducked into Model Cafe for a quick drink on the way home (Deep Ellum was packed). That place is a trip - cash only and a very strong scent of dive bar...Do bands play there?

Cambridge Street, Allston

Looking for recommendations on any of the restaurants on Cambridge Street in Allston, around the N. Beacon/Brighton intersection. Grain and Salt looks great from the outside - how's the food and service? What other restaurants in this area are excellent? Not looking for one particular cuisine or price range. Thanks!
