Lunch near IAH? (Houston)
Hi all,
This may be a stretch, but does anyone have a recommendation for lunch place near Intercontinental airport on a SUNDAY? We will be working within a layover, so we won't be able to venture too far unfortunately.
Thanks in advance!
21st B'day dinner in the Quarter
Hi all,
I'm coming to NOLA this weekend for my sister's 21st birthday and need Friday dinner recommendations. She's never been before so it would be great if we could find a place that can give the true New Orleans experience. We are staying at the Marriot on Canal and want to stay within walking distance. It's a mixed group of foodies/non-foodies, so something that appeals to all is essential. Also on that note, not outrageously expensive is important too. And most importantly, it should be festive and a place where MANY drinks can be downed.
I've thought about Galatoires (although maybe a little expensive for those non-foodies), which I've been to before and always had a great experience- although I think we would have to make reservations at the dreaded upstairs. I've also considered Mandina's. I know it's not in my French Quarter criteria, but I hear I can take the street car to get there? I haven't been post- Katrina... a possible concern there might be safety of 5 girls walking around after dark.
Thoughts? Ideas? I'd love some new ideas- I've been to NOLA several times and I feel like I always eat at the same places, so I would love any suggestions!

To-go in Houston
Thanks everybody!
I got the summer special from El Rey the other night- so good! Everything tasted really fresh and I actually felt good after eating drive thru food... plus I am a sucker for anything avocado. This was exactly the type of place I was hoping a bigger city would provide me with... we have nothing like this back home.
I tried Goode & Company last weekend (and almost exactly what you suggested, BruinEric) and it was good. I think it will take some getting used to compared to the BBQ I grew up on.
Looking forward to trying Asia Market and Paulie's.
Keep 'em coming!
To-go in Houston
Hello, fellow hounds!
I just moved to Houston from Birmingham, AL and I am sorely missing my usual spots to pick up to-go orders.
I live around the Med Center right now, but am moving to the Rice Military/Heights in August. However, I am willing to drive pretty much anywhere inside the loop for good food I can pick up.
I'm specifically looking for places that are $10 and below. Type of cuisine is no matter, although the places I frequented the most in B'ham were mostly local sandwich/soup/salad places with more than just your usual deli sandwiches (paninis, beyond your basic chicken salad sandwich, etc.). I am also interested in more ethnic food varieties (Thai, Indian, Mediterranean, etc.), but I realize they may be getting beyond the $10 parameters.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
