I have a bone to pick with NYMag
let me rephrase...
there's nothing worth venturing for in the UES that you wouldn't be able to find downtown or elsewhere in the city. It's not exactly a neighborhood for the culinary adventurous.
vegan and or vegetarian in the city
I hate just about all the vegetarian restaurants in the city except Pure Food and Wine; their lasagna and caesar salad is good.
I can't eat at Red Bamboo, it's some of the most greasy awful over-sweetened food I've eaten.
I have a bone to pick with NYMag
nymag reports based on where the majority of their readership resides in...they're a magazine, not the yellowpages
I have a bone to pick with NYMag
I live in the UES and I can tell you there really isn't much worth mentioning up here, so I don't blame NYmag. You really do have to venture south to find something besides italian restaurants and frat bars
Best Indian in Curry Hill (Lexington and 20s)
Vegetarian only, but really good..

who are the main new york food critics?
did i leave anyone out?
Frank Bruni - nytimes
Adam Platt - Nymag
Alan Richman - Bloomberg/GQ
Andrea Strong - Strong Buzz
Ed Levine - Serious Eats
Bastille Day this year
Bar Tabac is the best place to celebrate Bastille Day, almost all of Smith street is closed and the street's are filled with sand for petanque along with food vendors
Restaurant Week--where are you planning on going?
no where, the food that's served during restaurant week is pretty sub-par. not just my own opinion, but from the very mouths of some of the people that work at the restaurants listed in this thread.
How hard is it to get a res at TAO?
not difficult at all - for a reason as explained by all the previous replies
Top 5 Burgers
I love the following burgers, imo the best in the city, but they do have some drawbacks...
spotted pig - the wait can be long since they don't take reservations, but they have the best fries from this list (even used to be cooked in duck fat). i usually ask to have my cheeseburger topped with prosciutto
shake shack - the wait is even worse than the spotted pig, hopefully their new UWS location will aleviate this. Their fries are adequate, but their shakes more than make up for it.
burger joint - fries suck, but they have cheap beer relative to the other places on this list.
cafe d'alsace - awesome burger, good fries, horrible location
good burger - Pretty much identical to Burger Joint
good place to bring small group (4-6?) for birthday cocktails & tapas?
boqueria doesn't accept reservations
tia pol
moving to the ues
Agata Valentina and Citarella for produce and meats
The Food Emporium on 2nd ave and 86th for everything else
There is also a butcher called Lobels that everyone raves about on Madison and 85th
as the poster before me noted, I agree, this happens to be the most culinary bland neighborhood. It seems like every other restaurant that opens here is Italian too.
Small Rest. Recs Less than 50 seats
Perry St. in the West Village - probably the best one I can think of.

What's good at Pampano?
they're open for lunch?
they have a taco stand which is really good and I eat at once a week.
Foodie B-day Dinner
just about every restaurant here will be more than $25
how about Caracas Arepas, Pio Pio?
Throwing my opinion in the FroYo wars
I have to agree with the OP...why would you eat FroYo when there are so many good gelatto places
fish tacos?
yes, just had some tacos an hour ago. It's in the lobby of an office building next to Sophie's Cuban and Zoom Kitchen. You would never know from the street.
One word of advice, order on the telephone prior to going there...it takes them 10-15 minutes to make and the lines during lunch are long.
their shrimp tacos are better than their fish tacos
Danny Meyer
I have pretty much enjoyed all his restaurants in this order, the Bar Room being my most favorite and Tabla at the bottom (but still good).
If i had to eat somewhere all the time, I prefer Union Square Cafe, it's probably the most casual out of all of them.
If you can't get into Babbo, where does one go?
Ironically, the interim chef at A Voce is Manuel Trevino, who used to be the sous chef at Babbo, but is more known for his brief appearance on Top Chef this past season
Best Dining Neighborhood?
If you had to live in the neighborhood just for the food, what would it be, why?
