New ICA: Symon vs. Spike Mendelsohn

I do believe the Nina Griscom was a fairly early stalwart of Food Network. I believe her and Alan Richman would either review restaurants themselves or introduce taped restaurant reviews. My memory might be flawed as this was quite a while ago. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I remember enjoying the show. That said the judging was not the best but Symon clearly one the night.

Throwdown with Bobby Flay staged?

Just wondering. Which Throwdown did you go to? Does your friend have some sort of insider at the TV Food network?

Doughmonkey Closing - DFW

Hate to report it but it looks like Doughmonkey is closing for good. Here is the link to the Dallas Food Forum:

http://www.dallasfood.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=527

It makes me very sad to think I will probably never have those Snickerdoodle Cookies again or any of their incredible chocolate cakes.

Seafood Dallas?

I have to 2nd (or is it third?) Sea Breeze in Plano. Very casual, not that expensive but usually very fresh tasty food.

The New Food Network Shows for This Year

I don't know who Mary Nolan is and I don't think it is on yet (I don't watch a ton of Food Network anymore) but doesn't Chic and Easy sound a little like Lisa's concept from TNFNS? I may have to look for this to see what it is like just for a comparison. Is it just a coincidence that there is a show centered around the internet (Ask Aida) and then this Chic and Easy concept? Did the Food Network take all 3 concepts from the TNFNS finalists, can 2 of them and get all three shows? When was TNFNS filmed? Maybe I am full of it but to me it looks suspicious.

Parker Square/Flower Mound lunch spots?

Thai Tango is closed. Apparently the original owner sold. I went there for dinner a month or so ago and they told us they were under new management and that there was no liquor license yet which I thought was odd but I guess that happens when ownership changes hands. 2 weeks later I was in Parker Square and noticed the sign taped to the door saying they were closed. It was great when it 1st opened but had wained slightly in the last year or so. Sad to see it go really. I had my college graduation party there several years ago.

Dallas Desserts

Just went there this Saturday and as always incredible. They had samples of their Valrhona pound cake as well as the new chocolate truffle line they just started. Expensive but I just had to by a 15 piece box. Every chocolate lover needs to head there as soon as they can. I feel no one in the DFW area treats it with as much respect as Doughmonkey. Simply brilliant stuff.

Another Top Chef Copycat

I think they are refering to Marcel and a dish he copied (I am just blanking out on which one) and published as his. I think chefs "copy" and are inspired by other chefs quite a bit and have been since there were people called chefs. I know now with the whole molecular gastronomy wave hitting there is much talk of "copycat" chefs. I just think it is silly to point out when we have the whole history of cuisine full of "copycats". What's next copyrighting technique?

Dallas on 6 Meals

Those all sound great. I am glad you added Doughmonkey to the list as an other. I was going to recommend you add that although it is not a restaurant. For lunch in Ft Worth you could consider Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, Reatta or for some great tex-mex, Joe T Garcias (I know, I know, cliche but I have to admit I love this place) just remember to bring cash since no credit cards are accepted.

Best cookies in Dallas

My mouth is watering just thinking about the snickerdoodles. By the way Rhonda the pastry chef there is coming out (or possibly has already) a line of handmade truffles. If it is like everything else that place has done they will be out of sight!

Indian for lunch in Dallas area

I am a big fan of Chaat Cafe at the corner of Frankford and Preston. Overall, I think Dallas is fairly lacking in really good Indian. Mayuri is good though. My problem with most Indian places at lunch is the buffets that most put out there. Sad steam table Indian is never good. Chaat does not offer a buffet which I actually consider a good thing.

Best cookies in Dallas

I know this is an old thread but now that Doughmonkey is back open for business I would say theirs are the best with Pokey O's a close second.

Top Chef - The Tour

No Texas dates? With Casey and Tre being alumni I would think they would swing by Big D's way.

Turkey Burger - Dallas

Try Oliver's Eatery on Frankford Rd. I get mine with avocado. Not dry at all and the whole wheat buns are great!
