Sydney - 13 Days

Thanks for posting that PhilD. Lots of decent places opened recently in the city. One of my favourites is Ground Central at the Quay...open weekends too which makes it a godsend for us bus drivers.

Help...Need a good pizza sauce recipe

No need to cook pizza sauce...just blend good can of crushed tomatoes and add oregano and salt. that's it. it won't make dough soggy unless your trying to make giant pizzas. If everyone in the family likes chilli you can add chilli flakes too.

If you watch docos on Italian pizzas they don't usually cook the sauce

Sydney for 2 days and 2 nights

There's definitely plenty of places - Asian and non - that have a trendy fit out and get good reviews from the bloggers, but are not that special yet very popular...especially new places with a expensive /hip fit-out and hipster staff .Some last ...many don't. I've always assumed similar things happen in most big western cities...although Sydney is no doubt a tad shallow.

funnily enough most the of the Asian celebrity chefs in this town ....including David Chang when he's visiting - love Golden Century ...although being open very late helps. The pipis in xo are especially well reviewed

Recipes involving a whole chicken or chicken pieces aside from roasting

What's your favourite thing to do with a whole chicken aside from the standard roast chicken ? a couple of my favourites are simmering in master stock Chinese style .....or Hainan/ Singapore Chicken rice which is similar cooking style. Another great one is a Jamie Olliver dish he calls Empire Chicken (http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/ch...) which is a roast chicken but marinaded in yoghurt and Indian spices and with a lemon in cavity - actually I do it in slow cooker so not a roast at all. Then of course there are all the great ways to cook the broken down pieces. Love to hear your recipes/ ideas

Recommend me a taco-heavy Mexican cookbook

It's about time I got myself a good Mexican cookbook...can anyone recommend a great one...preferably taco-centric as that's the main thing I like to cook/eat.
Thanks

Suggestions for Christmas Day dinner in Sydney

I imagine that Manly would be like Coogee and Bondi in that a lot of places open compared to elsewhere...not sure if that's too far away for you. Plenty of good eat there these days. Hugo's on the Manly wharf is fantastic for pizza and drinks

Hidden Gems in Sydney?

There are hidden gems.
There are a few uniquely Australian food experiences.
There are great food places that are not super expensive

..but there aren't hidden cheap gems that are uniquely Australian ....although if the weather is great you could eat somewhere in Bondi Beach that has a view of the beach and isn't too expensive. ....or Hugos Manly Wharf which does fantastic gourmet pizza.

Sydney and Queenstown advice

Your welcome ...I'm a bus driver who is often parked up down near the Quay ....there's a lot of great coffee in the city CBD but not many really good places down the Quay end of town. Mecca in King st is another one if your up for a bit of a walk. Probably a 20 min walk from your hotel.

Cheap Eats - Gold Coast to Byron

I'm visiting Tweed Coast next week for 2 weeks and will be travelling to Byron and the Gold Coast several times...I've got a couple of favourite places to eat up there but always looking for new restaurants...money is tight this trip so cheapish and especially cheap Asian recommendations if anyone has any. Thanks

Dress Codes in Higher-end Sydney Restaurants

Despite any gentrification and despite lots of good places to eat near the Cross it still can and does get ugly there on a weekend night and often has a general bad vibe. Alternative lifestyles sounds more like Newtown .... Kings Cross's problem is strip clubs , tons of drunken blokes...and all the testosterone led problems those 2 combinations can bring. It's not a side of Sydney anyone visiting really needs to see. Of course most of the ugliness rears it's head after midnight ...and if you're minding your own business your perfectly safe walking through the place - you may not want to return though.

Cultural Appropriation: Is it a One Way Street?

I hear Japanese tourists in Australia laugh at the ubiquitous Chicken Katsu DOn ...or Chicken Katsu sushi .....this is the beloved chicken schnitzel....so its german food adopted by Aussies ...and Japanese then adopting that and putting into local Japanese food. Its great too !

Chinese food in Australia ....

I'd totally disagree...a large percentage of Chinese restaurants in Sydney are CAntonese style ...especially in the suburbs ...perhaps the restaurants that get the critical write ups are not though.

Unique foodie experiences in Sydney

Kylie Kwong is a very well known chef in Sydney...her restuarant is called Billy Kwongs in Surry Hills...modern , fancy Chinese...but recently so I hear she has been mixing traditional Australian bush herbs and veges into her cuisine..making a new fusion that is apparently really good.
