Omakase in Kyoto

Monkuaruka - thank you so much for your reply. Will try to make a reservation at Matsumoto - perhaps try on the day (each day we are there....) for a last minute cancellation.

Omakase in Kyoto

Apologies - I had understood that omakase was mainly a sushi thing and that to say omakase sushi was redundant, but it was sushi that I had in mind.

thanks

Omakase in Kyoto

I will be in Kyoto later this month for five days and would really like to experience omakase while I am there. I have done a Chowhound search and it seems that all restaurants where omakase is offered and which are recommended here are in Tokyo - while we will be in Tokyo for five days, it is with friends who are somewhat price conscious and I don't want to put them in a difficult position and so thought that, if possible, I should experience this in Kyoto.

Neither I nor my travelling companion speak any Japanese, although we are trying to learn enough to at least manage Please and Thank You, which I think could be a problem for omakase?

Would be most grateful for any suggestions.

thanks

Online Italian Deli - Nife is Life - Any Views?

Oonth - what is your recently discovered source of nduja? I know it can be found at Borough, but an online (or west london) source would be much appreciated. Thanks

Oxford?

Would definitely second (or third!) the Chang Mai recommendations.

The Japanese that abpstigand was talking about is Edamame on Hollywell street - v. good value japanese food. always full so worth going early and tends to be relatively reliable during term time. There is also excellent Japanese up in Cowley at Gashi gashi but is a longish walk from the Randolph, out over Magdalen Bridge.

Its worth walking down to Little Clarendon Street or further into Jericho for lunch as well. Little Clarendon Street has great icecream at G&Ds and Pierre Victoire has well priced set menu at lunchtime and is good basic French brasserie cooking. Frevds is round the corner opposite the Oxford University Press, in a converted chapel, and has good pizza. lots of other little restaurants around there as well.

Although the Cherwell Boathouse isn't within walking distance of the Randolph, is not a long bus/cab ride and is charming.

Manchester - lunch

I am taking my (student) sister out for lunch in Manchester on Sunday and would like to take her somewhere relaxed but stylish which would feel like a treat for her.

I am only in the city for three hours or so, so somewhere near the station (Piccadilly) would be ideal but is not essential.

All suggestions gratefully received.

London - lobster roll

Thanks Jess - I have tried Automat (this is a longstanding craving) but Boxwood is a good suggestion. Otherwise, I think it will be a question of making my own, but that is never so good....

London - lobster roll

Hi

I have a real craving for a Maine lobster roll (the lobster doesn't have to be from Maine but I find that the lobster rolls in Maine are the best anywhere) preferably in West/Central london. Has anyone ever come across a good one?

thanks
