You'll have to go a bit further east for the real deal
It's christmas season and if you want the best you should go where the best are made

Christmas night dinner

I always go out to dinner on Christmas night and my wife and I I would like to break my Pasadena tradition for a steakhouse.
Any LA Steak resto's open on Christmas night? It looks like Taylor's, and Musso's are closed according to Opentable.

If not ................any old school staples open that I forgot?
Anyone.......Anyone???
Thanks

Late night dinning in Union Square area??

Hi all-
LA Chow here looking for a place with ambiance and quality food to take my wife this Friday night.
We should be settled in and ready around 9:45pm and would love to hear some recommendations for a 10pm dinner in walking distance.
We'll be staying at the St. Francis.

Food wise anything goes, Asian, Italian, Steaks but keeping within a $$ budget would be cool too.

Simple sometimes is always the best.
Thanks,
AFS

Fisherman's Outlet Seafood Downtown

Right in the heart of the wholesale district in DT, it doesn't get much fresher.
Stand in line bark your order have your order barked back at you grab a picnic table outside with a piece of freshly prepared fish, chowder or seafood salad and a ice cold ice tea or beer and you've hit the spot.
If you're in echo park you're maybe 15 minutes away plenty of street parking or they have a lot that get's filled up during lunch time but there's a guy out there keeping a watchful eye.
They also have a fish market next to the eatery.

Fresh Halibut and rice pilaf is my favorite.

Help!! Which Chinese bakeries have good cakes?

www.phoenixbakeryinc.com
Great bakery in China town on north broadway, I had my wedding cake made here and was a big hit. It's been there forever and at 1 point my grandma even worked there back in the 40's.
Great strawberry filled cakes

Is there such a thing as "Healthy" Cup o Noodles??

I have to admit I like a good cup of noodles from time to time especially during the work week for lunch........... But I just know all that salt, MSG and whatever else in there is slowly killing me , right?
Is there such a thing as a healthy cup of noddles out there?
I've gone to the markets in little tokyo even Famima's but 1/2 of the stuff I can't understand b/c it's in a different language or there's no writing at all.

And going to one of the noodle houses like Mr. Ramen or others is great and all but takes to long

Anything? Anybody?
Thanks,

New holes-in-the-wall downtown?

I think Ensenada on Spring around 6th or 7th is a steal for Mexican sit down lunch, almost 3 courses for under $10.00.
I agree Colori has upped their dinner prices but Lunch is still where it's at, you can still get Luigi's spaghetti and Meatballs for under $8.00
I also think Polloland on Broadway and Olympic is pretty darn good grilled chicken and they deliver.
Then there's Paul's Kitchen on at San Pedro and 10th, they have this Chinese bbq chicken that comes with rice and soup for under $9.00, old school Chinese diner.
And finally, I'm a big fan of the Sultan on 6th just east of Broadway, always crazy in there and packed but they have some really great kebabs with a daily fresh fish special too, under $9.00.
Quick question...I live at 9th and Broadway and the only burrito outside my door is tacos Mexico, where's Guerrero's?

Satruday night dinner near the St. Regis OC

Hi All
My wife and I are spending a weekend in Monarch beach at the St. Regis and looking for some help for a group dinner for Saturday night . I know there's some great places at the St. Regis but I wouldn't want to force nor do we want Price to be an issue.
We'll be dinning with 3 other couples and would like a place that has both fresh fish and some great steaks, views would be a plus. I really don't know my way around the area so any help would be great.

Any suggestions for something nearby or taxi close?

Thanks,

Mexican and Margaritas in a Party Type Atmosphere Echo Park/East Hollywood

El Conquistador on Sunset, always loud, filled and margs are good, very eclectic crowd..
El Compadre on Sunset near Dodger Stadium is also festive, fun and employ some lethal bartenders.
Then there's Malo on sunset, the bar has an awesome juke box, plenty of tequila to choose from and you can order food in the bar too.

Monchong and Spearfish in Los Angeles?

Hi All-
just got back from A trip to Maui and had fresh fish almost every night or day.
2 that stood out were a monchong and Spearfish.
The Mongchon was tasty, firm and had a lobster-esk taste to it, the Spearfish was a true knockout too.

My question to you LA chows is where can I find these fish served in LA? Also are these fancy names for John Dory and Swordfish?

Thanks,

AFS

Pacific Dining Car - Never Again

C'mon seedy area??? The original Taylor's has been there for ever and Korea town simply happen to grow around it, It's hardly seedy. The staff at the Taylor's on 8th are top notch and has a great crowd every time.
The La Canada Taylor's as the staff will even admit is a different vibe slightly different menu, smaller and rather low key.
Just not the same unless you try the original Taylor's, all steak selctions are tasty and prices are from another time long ago.
Seedy area ??? You must get out more often.

Haru Ulala or Honda-Ya?

Haru will be open later and if there is a wait you can put your name down and go next door to the jazz club for a quick cocktail. The small plates at Haru are more enjoyable then the menu selection at Honda ya, overall larger selection.

Sushi in Maui - suggestions?

just got back last night.....And I have no clue why or how there could be negative reviews pertaining to San Sei.......we found this place (Kapalua) to be a true highlight of our trip.
We ended up going back on our last night to tackle more of the menu.
Sushi was so nice.....but we also had to try the miso butter fish along with a few of the small plates..... incredible.

No MSG Chinese food...Downtown

I've been a Plum Tree fan for many years, always fresh and the chicken is always white meat.
Not a bad wine selection either for Chinatown.

For the price and service I too will never go back especially when Taylor's is just a short drive away. The out of towners love taylor's too.

Diaster at Engine Co Number 28

I have lunch at the Engine CO. twice a month and I think the service is pretty good.
What else was a "disaster" besides pouring your own Wine and Pelligrino with TV folks??
Did they serve you cold food, spill on you, call you names??
Did you like the food at least?
If you 're really that upset I guess you should go to their website and find an e-mail and send in a complaint.
