Cabane a sucre Au Pied de Cochon

I also emailed April 9th, and got my confirmation last Wednesday on the 16th. At that point, I asked for a couple of date options for a party of 12, and they had it available. Have hope! Seems like they are slowly but surely getting through their reservation requests.

New menu at WD-50

Anyone tried yet?

When I reserved a couple of weeks ago, I was planning to do the A la Carte menu. Now, I'm looking at the Vault option instead of the 12 course tasting.

Will the Vault tasting be the same portion size per plate as the 12 course tasting? If so, I'm just worried we might still be hungry by the time we are done.

Another Weekend trip Itinerary advice

Thanks for your help and suggestions!

Looks like we will now be heading towards The Breslin instead of Red Rooster for a Saturday early night dinner before the crazy line-ups I have been reading.

One more week to go! Counting down the days.

Another Weekend trip Itinerary advice

Coming with my wife from Montreal for the weekend of May 19th-21st.

I have a rough idea of where we would like to eat. Have made a few reservations, but nothing is set in stone. Your advice is greatly appreciated!

Will be staying at Roger Hotel - Madison and 31st E.

May 19th - Arriving early in the morning.
- Will spend the day walking and eating street carts
- 6 pm - reservation at Red Rooster. Worth the trip?

May 20th - Brunch - stuck between The Breslin, The Dutch and Spotted Pig. From what
I read, none of them take reservation? Which one would be preferred?
- Wife's Birthday - Reserved at both Anissa and WD-50 at 7:30. Leaning
towards WD-50. Will cancel the other one soon.

May 21st - Leaving at night. Have a reservation at Bouley. Mixed reviews? I see EMP is
still available for lunch, but might be pushing my budget a bit there. Worth
the Price difference from Bouley?

- If I don't go to either, this would be the time I can fit in Momofuku ssam for the
duck rice.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Looking forward to feast in NY!

If I say RUE Jean-Talon OUEST (west) between DECARIE and St-Laurent in Montreal

There's Kitchen Galerie on Jean-Talon a couple of blocks away from St-Laurent.

Openings in 2012

The owner of Keung Kee opened a Hong Kong style kind of eatery in the location where Sun Sing Lung use to be. Basically Keung Kee is upstairs, and the new location right underneath. From what I was told, it's called Ethan?

My parents purchased some bbq pork from there, and tried it at their home. The skin was crispy, but not as flavourful as it should be. They have only been open since Monday, so I would give it a bit more time.

Might have a chance to attend a Mezza-Luna class in montreal, anyone been?

I took the the Martin Picard classes last year. Yes, it is all in french. You get to eat all the food he makes, and as usual, even the cooking courses he makes alot! If you take the classes with Ms. Faita, she is perfectly bilingual and believe she offers some classes in english.

Guu working together with Kazu? Still in talks and not official?

Crawfish in Montreal???

Looks amazing! Hold frequent events until you feel it in your gut that it's the time for you to open shop! Count me in on your first event! ; )

Montreal City wisdom snuffs out Korean in-table BBQ

The Kanda location on St-Catherine has korean bbq on the 2nd floor, and it is in-table BBQ. It was over 2 months ago, but from what I saw, it seems as though every table had it's own bbq.

I look forward to see what the Seoul Chako will offer.

McDonald's Lobster Rolls - what gives? [Moved from Quebec board]

Was looking forward to try the Lobster roll, and see if it was any good, but they didn't have it at the Brossard location. Anybody passed by any Downtown locations?

Martin Picard: A Real Gem

I also took the cooking course at his Cabane Au Sucre, and I also agree that Martin Picard is a gem. At the end of the course, I asked him when he was going to open his APDC prepared food store, and responded back with saying "no more big projects for now, it's time for a rest and some family time."

Restaurant Closings in 2011

Found out that the restaurant Keung Kee that's above Sun Sing Lung, will be taking the location. Not sure if they will be occupying both floors, or just relocating.

Restaurant Closings in 2011

Most probably an asian restaurant! ; ) j/k . I'll see if I can find any info.

Restaurant Closings in 2011

Sucks hey! The one on St-Laurent is good, but they don't offer the rice combo the last time I went. Sun Sing Lung location will become another restaurant.

Restaurant Closings in 2011

Sun Sing Lung - the Roast meat place on de la Gauchetière will be closing at the end of the month. They are retiring. You guys have a week left to get your 6$ bbq rice combo!

Alas, No Space at Au Pied de Cochon....Now What?!

Try DNA. Great ambiance, food is amazing! Go for their happy hour, all wine bottles 50% off. If you still have some wine left by the time your table is ready, they will even bring it over to the dining room.

Lunch for 5 days around the Palais

For Hot Pot, try Little Sheep Mongolian hot pot on the corner of Clark and La Gauchetiere. A Chain from asia.

Lunch for 5 days around the Palais

Your right in Chinatown, but I'm sure you won't want to eat chinese everyday. Within 15min. you'll be able to reach Brits and Chips, on McGill. Don't know where your from, but right accross from them, Five Guys burger open a couple of weeks ago. Olive & Gourmando in Old Montreal is not too far off to.

Restaurant Openings in 2011

Popular for it's contractors and staff members!

Restaurant Openings in 2011

On Rene Levesque next to Le Latini, someone took over the restaurant, the name I forgot. They are doing renovation right now, and the new sign says Bistro Elegant.

Any news on that place?

I just ate like a queen

That is Quite a bit for take-out. At that price I would rather dine-in. May not be the best of quality, but Sushi 111, great for Take-out and less than 50$ I can fill up 4 people!

DNA, when to go?

We were 3 last time, and wanted to order 2 bottles of red. The waitress said we can only order one bottle at a time. It might have been different if one person in our group wanted a white instead.

Chinese roast BBQ goose

The asian community in Toronto and Vancouver is so big that even if the goose is not as good as they are in Hong Kong, there is still enough of a demand to supply it. But in Montreal that's another case. I should be passing by Chinatown next week, and will ask the shop on La Gauthetiere if they do special orders. If so, I'll find out the price per goose, and see if anyone else is interested in one. Will post back when I find out.

Chinese roast BBQ goose

From what I know, there is none. Everytime my father goes to Hong Kong for vacation, that's the first thing he eats. Supposedly they don't make BBQ goose here is because the goose does not taste as good as they do back in Asia. Therefore they just stick with BBQ Duck. Hope this helps.

La Maison Kam Fung - horrible service

It's not a Franchise. Kam Fung Thimens was open many years ago with quite a few partners. I would say atleast 15 so years ago? They eventually split up and a couple of those partners took over. Chuck went off to open the one in Chinadowntown and Brossard. That's a mini rough history of Maison Kam Fung.

Best place to catch the game tomorrow? Good crowd, good food, decent prices!

I think the word your looking for is Isakaya.

Private Dining Room for 14 guests

I recently had a bachelor party at Vinizza on Jean Talon. They have a private room upstairs the restaurant. You feel like your eating in someone's Loft appartment, with an open kitchen, and a very long table right in front of the kitchen that easily fits 20 people. The kitchen has a large island where the chef cooks and plates all the food. We had one chef and one waitress that served us the whole night. Give them a call, I'm sure they will show you the space. I would definately think of this location on our next family gathering.

Hoai Huong

They have a second location in Brossard, opened up sometime last year. I do not know the exact address, but it's in the strip mall next to Al-Challal where all the car dealership is located. Same menu, in a much nicer ambiance. They took over a restaurant that also use to serve vietnamese food.

APDC......Bar Reservations?

Yes, you can reserve at the bar. I request that spot everytime I go. Make sure you ask for the bar seat right in front of the kitchen. Otherwise, you might be placed facing the coffee machine.
