Run, Don't Walk -- Orwasher's Corn Rye, Only Available in March

Unless they are lying about it's provenance Zabar's has the Famous Orwasher's seeded Corn Rye everyday. They only have a few loaves each day so the race goes to the swiftest.

Yes I've samples it a couple of times. It is a very dense, rich tasting bread. Not something I want everyday. I am going to try the Orwasher Pumpernickel this week which is also available at Zabar's. Have you tried the Pumpernickel?

Zabar's sells a Corn rye year round which they claim is from Orwasher. It is much as you describe the one you bought directly from them. I bought 1 about a year ago at Orwasher and they told me at the time they were considering adding it as a regular item which it seems they have done.
I prefer the Corn Rye without seeds which was called Lithuanian Rye but is a dense Corn Rye made by Sterling Bakers in Queens and sold in Lithuanian and Polish and at one place near Columbia U. The problem was the quality was inconsistent, sometimes delicious other times over baked and dry. I haven't had it in awhile.

Malai Marke - a new Indian on (gasp!) 6th St.

I have not eaten at the high end expensive Indian Restaurants in New York so I can't comment on them. I really liked Southern Spice and went often before they left Flushing and Spicy Minas which was hit or miss but had some delicious meals there.
There was an Indian place on the East Side that got a lot of publicity last year in the 60's ( Lex or 3rd Ave? ) that I meant to try. Do you know the place I'm thinking of?

Malai Marke - a new Indian on (gasp!) 6th St.

I had lunch there today and it was, in a word, TERRIBLE. I had the Allepy Red Curry which tasted like it was made with Rao's Marinara sauce with a couple of Curry Leaves and a few pieces of nondescript fish tossed in. The cabbage was bland and the Nan was surely left overs from the night before.

Ayada was good. Thai, not exactly...

With the possible exception of " SRI " when it was new and serving an almost exclusive
Asian clientele I have never had any Thai food in a restaurant in New York that compares with what you get at a good restaurant or good food stall in Bangkok or any where else in Thailand. I don't even try anymore because it will be a disappointment.

Aux Epices, New Malaysian in C'town: anyone try it yet?

I am talking about Curry Laksa as regards Aux Epices . I happen to also like Asam Laksa and was lamenting the poor quality that I have encountered here . Curry Laksa in NYC is a sad affair but better than what is passed off as Asam Laksa.

Aux Epices, New Malaysian in C'town: anyone try it yet?

I agree about the quality of the Laksa here especially Asam Laksa which is a travesty in comparison with what you get in Penang.

Aux Epices, New Malaysian in C'town: anyone try it yet?

The Seafood Laksa that Dave talks about sounds like a very different dish than what I had. He had it for Dinner which might explain the difference in the Seafood included in the Laksa ( it cost more at dinner ) but the woman who is the Chef and is from Malaysia was cooking when I was there and the soup was BLAH.

Aux Epices, New Malaysian in C'town: anyone try it yet?

I had Seafood Laksa for lunch about 2 weeks ago and I was under whelmed. The broth ( coconut curry ) lacked any real complexity and despite asking for Spicy it was on the mild side. the seafood part was skimpy , a couple of shrimp and a few pieces of Squid .I am not planning to return.

Had the sauteed spicy Cumin Lamb today for lunch and it was very tasty however the dish might more accurately be called ' Taste of Spicy Cumin Lamb " given the very small amount of Lamb in the bowl.
