Water Moon on UWS: when will it reopen?
Water Moon is my favorite delivery restaurant on the UWS. So sad that they've been closed for renovations for a while now. Anyone know when they're planning on reopening?
Where can I get good chili on the Upper West Side?
I'm a new fan of chili con carne (a not-spicy version), thanks to Rowdy Hall in East Hampton. Now that I'm back in Manhattan, where can I get some???
Kefi recommendations
Kefi is no longer the restaurant it used to be. The love is gone. It's a money-making factory now. Cavernous and crowded but empty-souled. It's a real loss.
Good eats on Long Island?
Kotobuki in Hauppauge for amazing sushi and great cooked stuff too-- their salmon teriyaki is sublime. Maroni's in Northport for fabulous Italian-- best restaurant on the Island, IMO. A tiny place and they don't have a printed menu; order a la carte or do the tasting. Unforgettable. For Chinese, Ancient Ginger in St. James is very good. La Plage in Wading River is a beautiful spot and the food's great.....
How much do you tip the delivery guy? [Moved from Manhattan board]
A percentage of the meal's cost or one flat rate? Curious...
Best whitefish salad?
This is an aside, but has anyone tried Bering cisco yet?

Salumeria Rossi - UWS - Anyone?
Nothing on the menu over $10 but it's completely overpriced (and the food is unexceptional)-- they give you bite sized portions. We were underwhelmed. After all the hype we were looking forward to it but we won't be back, and we live right in the neighborhood.
ONE restaurant week dinner
Does anyone know where I can find the online menu for Convivio's Sunday Dinner?
Best lunch deal on Upper West Side?
Ah, I should have mentioned-- I'm pescatarian. Any other faves? Thank you!!
Best lunch deal on Upper West Side?
The economy being what it is, I'm looking for some great lunch deals. (Delivery to the mid-'70s preferred.) Any favorites that I might not know about?
I love Land's "wok shrimp garlic," and Hampton Chutney's dosas are terrific. Matsu has a great $8 salmon teriyaki. The Hummus Place is yum.
What else???
Many thanks, Sardinefan
ISO: Asbach Uralt Squares
I too am looking for Asbach Uralt chocolate (of any variety.) Last year I bought them at Fairway; yesterday I went and couldn't find them.
Does anyone else know where I can buy them?
Best SLICE of pizza in Manhattan?
Not looking for a sit-down/order-a-pie place, just a great slice. Opinions, please.
Best SLICE of pizza on the Upper West Side?
Looking for a great slice... all suggestions appreciated. I'm not looking for a sit down/order a pie place; just want something quick, delicious, authentically NY. (And not Ray's Original, please.)
Sardines and PCBs
Dear FlyFish,
THANK YOU. I wish you would write to Tara Parker-Pope and share your knowledge with her, or at least cross-post your informative response at the New York Times site.
After reading her blog, I asked my question there too (see comment #6), and no one seemed to know much of anything.

Thanks again.
Sardines and PCBs
Which is why I posted the original question in the first place... wondering if anyone has concrete information.
There is this study, which suggests that, in a sampling of Spanish fish, "Tuna, hake, and sardine were the species with the highest contribution [of PCDD/PCDFs and PCBs]."
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17049987
...and there are other studies like this as well.
Sardines and PCBs
And now over to the Environmental Working Group:
"According to the guidelines, to limit their intake of PCBs, women and children should eat no more than 1 to 2 servings per month of salmon, sardines, herring and bluefish."
http://www.ewg.org/node/16384
I give up. There's nothing left to eat.
Sardines and PCBs
Thank you, rworange and Pollo.
I quote from an article posted on msnbc.com re safe fish consumption:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5932670/
SARDINES
Though low in mercury, this fatty fish contains high levels of other toxins.
Nutritional overview: Sardines (Atlantic, canned in oil, drained solids with bone, 2 sardines [24g])
Based on a 3.5 ounce serving
Calories: 206.25
Protein: 24.5g
Total Fat: 11.3g
Omega-3s: 2.3 grams
Toxic Topline
Sardines have their own paradox: very high in calcium due to their bones, rich in Omega-3s, low in mercury — but high in PCBs and other toxins.
Consumption recommendation: The Environmental Working Group suggests avoiding sardines due to the high level of toxins.

Who to believe?
Sardines and PCBs
Thanks, rworange.
However, I quote from the original "great sardine taste-off thread":
"depending on where they are caught some sardines are high in pcbs."
http://www.chowhound.com/topics/301342
Just wondering if anyone knows which areas of the world's oceans are the most clean. Sigh, what a world that such questions need be asked.
Sardines and PCBs
Hi all,
Does anyone know which canned sardines are lowest in PCBs?
Grateful for any/all info.
