Raleigh-Bagels & Lox

So do y'all think that I've been living here too long if I say I like Panera bagels (like Asiago cheese) with the lox from BJs bought in the plastic package? It's really qualifies as smoked salmon, but does the trick on bagels with cream cheese.

NY Hound new to Raleigh - need recommendations

I completely agree on Bella Monica being the best Italian around - especially their baked lasagne. (It seems no one *bakes* lasagne anymore.) BUT you really need to make a reservation through ... waiting for a table there is miserable. Just no comfortable waiting room and starts the meal off on a bad note.

For Indian, I'd recomment Sawasdee on Capitol.

Recommendations for Chapel Hill

Don't forget to to add Whole Foods Market to your list of places to eat options. They've got a little cafe for eat-in, or you can purchase for takeout from their great selection of salad bar, prepared packaged foods (including great sushi), and deli counter hot/cold entrees.

figs in western NC

I planted a pair of fig trees last year and they've got some small figs on them now (I'm in Raleigh). How do you know when to pick them? They don't seem like they ever look 'ripe'. Thanks.

NC Barbecue Road Trip - need advice

Here's a great place to try... Gary's Barbecue in China Grove. They've got the prerequisite great pulled pork, and then add in a very cool restaurant with vintage Coke ads and great banana pudding. Turns out it's just 5 mins off I85, but a real local friendly place. What more could you ask for?
