Fresh Direct Has Come to Philadelphia

Another great benefit is that Fresh Direct has some items you can't get in the greater Philly area. My husband loves the "Defense" flavor of Vitamin Water. You just can't buy that flavor anymore here. But FD had it and I ordered 2 cases delivered to my door! Oh, and at the time they were charging $.69 a bottle!

Birthday Brunch for 30+ in Chestnut Hill area?

Hello,

I am planning my Aunt's 80th birthday party and we are looking for a place that can host about 30 people for a nice Sunday brunch in the Chestnut Hill or maybe the Plymouth Meeting area. Our price point is about $25 per person. This will be in late April. Any recommendations would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Southern Cross Kitchen, Conshohocken... anyone been?

We just went there for brunch on Sunday. It was wonderful!! We decided to go because we heard they were going to have live music. There was a duo playing, just upright bass and a guitar but it was great! The perfect addition to the brunch scene. There was no wait to be seated and we were a party of 8.

I loved the food. I am by no means an expert in southern food, but I know what I like. We ordered a variety of dishes and it let us try new things. I never would have ordered fried pickles, and shame on me, because they were fabulous! Crispy, tangy and awesome with a creamy dipping sauce. Same with grits, I had never had them before and if these grits are any indication, I have been sorely missing out for almost 40 years??

I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it was delicious! I liked the breaking, it was crispy and stayed on the chicken. My Mom ordered the bananas foster French toast...Holy Cow! It was great, I think next time we will order that as a dessert. It comes with ice cream and is very sweet. My Mom adored it and I had to distract her using my 6 month old to grab a few bites. My friend got their Cobb salad which also had fried chicken and said it was very good. I wasn't able to taste ,y friend's biscuit with sausage gravy because he was sitting too far away and I wasn't able to get to it before he demolished it, clearly a good sign. We also had a 9 and 6 year old with us and they loved the pulled pork sliders...so a kiddie win!

All in all we had a great time. It was the best brunch I had been to in years. Between the music and the food, we will be back soon!

We were also there this afternoon. I got the last sticky bun, opera cupcake and a chocolate cupcake. We also wanted a baugette but they were all out. Dennis cut up a ciabatta for us to try and it was the best one my husband and I ever had! We bought one and it is already half gone! We can't wait to go back. And the cupcakes... well we were scrapping the wrappers with our teeth...

The Dandelion

I was there on wednesday and my friend and I sat right next to the fire on the second level. Given the weather this was a wonderful seat, cozy and warm. We shared the Welsh Rarebit, lovely but I was expecting something gooey... My friend had the fish and chips and loved them, I had a bite and the batter was so tasty and crisp and the fish was tender. I had the chicken with bubble and squeak... extremely tasty. No room for dessert, Next time I will get starterd so I can try the dessert! I will be back!

Who's been to Noble American Cookery since Brinn Sinnott took over?

Was there on Tuesday, it was ok. I got the chicken and it was a beautiful presentation but the flavor was ok, nothing to write home about. My companion's duck was very good. the portions were small for the price. Ok would be the overwhelming word that comes to mind. I miss Cibucan, the restaurant that used to be in that location.

Smiles Cafe

I really like Erawan which is a few blocks away at 123 S. 23rd St. (23rd and Sansom St.). They give you a salad, appitizer and main course for around $8 at lunch! Great deal. I think it is $15 for dinner. The food is great, the decor is nice (and very orange) and the service friendly.

Slate Burger

We tried to go to Whisky Village last night as I was craving a burger. There was a 2 hour wait so we went a block over to Slate on 21st between Chestnut and Sansom. We shared an order of poutine (sp?) and I had the Slate Burger with carmelized onion and boursin cheese, it was amazing!! The meat was so tender, it was served on a brioche roll perfectly cooked, My sister had the stuffed burger, it was filled with cooked short rib and topped with blue cheese. She was in love. There was no wait, and my burger was $10 (including the toppings). I have no idea if the poutine was authentic or not but it was really tasty! There were so many other things on the menu that I can't wait to try!

Indian Grocers

For what it is worth I am 1/2 Indian...I go to the Patel Market in Montgomeryville...it is fairly close to the Assi Market. It is fine and has a decent selection plus the blue Pear''s soap my husband loves so much. I used to go to Subzi Mehndi (sp?) in Edison, NJ back when I lived near there. Oak Tree Rd is Little India and I would recommend you go for a culinary day trip.... there are lots of non-food shops as well.
