Fairway Market - Woodland Park

Chaf-K is no longer going to be supervising Fairway? They made such a big deal about when they started a few years ago.

Fairway Market - Woodland Park

I did this morning and just received this reply from R' Marmorstein-

"Bagels and breads baked on site are kosher, hamentashen, rugelach and danishes are kosher. Better signage should be up soon."

Fairway Market - Woodland Park

Even the bagels and bread. There's nothing in the bins that indicate that anything there is kosher. Looks like we're just picking up a conversation from last year.

So are all bakery products kosher or just those with Mehadrin Kosher symbol? Which, by the way, there are none.

Achla hummus--gone forever? Good alternatives?

A quick check at EZ Kosher shows both stores that deliver to my area still have Achla in stock. (Evergreen and Rockland Kosher).

Please tell me this is a delayed April fool's prank.

Jarred Tuna

Do you recall which brand? I was in Fairway in NJ yesterday and didn't see any.

Jarred Tuna

You know, the good stuff imported from Spain and Italy. Are there any kosher brands? I've never seen any.

Kosher parmigiano reggiano!

Excellent. Hopefully the price will be somewhat tolerable.

Can Rum(/Rhum/Cachaça) be Drunk on Passover?

Kashrus organizations generally opine that dark rum needs certification year round.

As for Pesach, as far as I know, all alcoholic beverages need to be certified kosher for Pesach. But like many other things, this is best addressed with your LOR.

Pareve Passover Chocolate Chips

I meant pretty good compared to other parve chips out there, which at this point, seem to be limited to only "heimishe" brands.

I've had them...pretty good for a parve chip.

Gluten-Free Matzoh for Passover Sedar

Doesn't look like oat matzah is much more expensive than wheat.

Edit- my bad, i was comparing machine GF to hand wheat. Nevermind.

Chef Katsuji at Pitopia

I was there in the afternoon. Wait wasn't terrible and the food was delicious. Would be awesome if he opened up an East Coast branch.

I am looking for a Parver dark chocolate mini chunks or chips. Now that Whole Foods discontinued their dark chocolate mini chunks, I am stuck using sub-par kosher brands. Any ideas?

Picked up a few bags of "California Gourmet" vegan chocolate chips at Cedar Market in Teaneck. Much better than the "heimesh" brands.

The OU may endorse a new line of products

From the NY Post article..."A company from Colorado is working with rabbis in New York on a plan to start selling legal, edible marijuana products that are certified kosher, The Post has learned.....As a plant, marijuana doesn’t have to be certified kosher, but when it comes to edibles, “the other ingredients are the issue.”

kosher goat cheese

Correct. Cheese manufacturers switch to Tablet-K because it's a lot cheaper. There's no full-time mashgiach to pay. Which is why it was so surprising initially that Polly-O went OU.

A pot brownie, even for medicinal purposes, would probably have to be certified kosher according to most opinions. I'm not sure I'm understanding the uproar. They're certifying the food, not the pot.

Kite Hill Cheese

Any updates? Serious Eats reviewed some of their cheeses today, but I couldn't find anything on Kite Hill's website about being kosher.

Does anyone have more info on who this Rav Shmuel Fried is who gives the hechser on the back half? I've got no issue with eating niqured meat, it just needs to have a reliable hechser.

Shabbat hot plate question

You can try perhaps one of the Israeli-style hotplates that aren't adjustable. They are generally much hotter than a regular adjustable hotplate.

Skirt steak

I've never been able to get a skirt steak down to an acceptable level of saltiness. Maybe I'll try the ice water idea next time.

Amsterdam Burger Co.

Finally checked out ABC. As I expected, the food was very good, but expensive. I would have preferred the burger a bit more pink, but still tasty. Yam fritters were delicious.

The Teaneck Doghouse - Anyone been yet?

I was there a few weeks ago for a MNF game. Overall food was quite good, except for the pretzel dog. Great chicken fingers, great fries. Cocktails are seriously overpriced for a sports bar. Service was nothing special. Decor, hey it's a sports bar. A fun place to hang out, but nothing more than that. I give the place less than 6 months.

The Teaneck Doghouse - Anyone been yet?

A friend of mine was there on Sunday. His comments- "Wings were subpar; pulled bbq sandwich was decent; burger was ok; fries are like kosher deluxe fries".

I'm probably going to check it out next week, if only for the novelty of it. My guess it won't last long, even with decent food. I just don't see the market for a kosher sports bar, as much as I personally love the idea.
