Rustic Oak North Haven - Future Plans?

Alas, the Rustic Oak in North Haven closed about a month ago or so. Does anyone know of any plans for what is going on with the building? I hear rumors of an Italian Restaurant (do we really need more?). It's a great building and deserves to house a place with really, really good, non-chain food.

Pizza Truck Catering in CT

The Big Green Pizza Truck (actually, there are several of them, they're so busy) is a great option. They are a hit at summer gatherings, graduation parties, etc., and the pizza is AMAZING!! Mt son graduated high school last year and they had the truck at many events. They serve pizza, salad, expresso and gelato for dessert. It's not cheap and I think you need 50 people minimum. Best part is that they do EVERYTHING - you just have to supply beverages. I wouldd have done this for my son's party if I had been savvy at the time.

Easter Brunch/Dinner New Haven or Middlesex County?

This year, Easter falls on my Birthday (April 20). I'm really not interested in going to a family Easter dinner, would rather go out and celebrate. What's open for Brunch/Lunch or early dinner? We need to get our son back to UCONN before 7:00PM, so anywhere even on the way would be a good option as well.

Virgil's BBQ coming to Mohegan Sun

Well, we finally learned what happened to Big Bubba's at the Sun. It closed about 4 months ago, and was constantly packed. Virgil's BBQ of NYC and Atlantis fame is coming in, and will open sometime this spring. I believe they're owned by the same company as Carmine's in NYC. I just checked their menu and their prices are WAY higher than Bubba's. I just hope it's as good as Bubba's was.

Ludals North Haven or J Christians Wallingford????

Food is better at Ludal's but service can, at times be slow. If you choose Ludal, you might want to go before 7PM.

Big Bubba's Mohegan Sun - CLOSED?

Last two times I've been at the Sun, the place was dark. Last week the place had been stripped of tables and chairs. Anyone have any news? This place used to be packed with people, especially on concert nights.

fresh tagliatelle?

Otto in the Venetian. Daily pasts specials are great, and you get to be in the fake Piazza San Marco to boot!

Suggestions for the Wynn for casual dining

If you're willing to go over the walkway to the Palazzo, I'd recommend the Grand Lux Cafe. Huge menu, generous portions, great prices, very casual.

Mohegan Sun - Birthday dinner

May I suggest a 4th option? Margaritaville is a great place for a birthday celebration for your age group. The whole place is a party, the food good and plentiful, great drinks, too!

Fried clams

Also very good is Dino's in North Haven. Exit 12 off of 91N, then about a mile headed north, on the left hand side. Big portions, very fresh and crisp. Not at all greasy.

Foxwoods- best moderately priced restaurants?

I had a Bobby's Blue Burger last weekend at Bobby's Burger Palace. I told DH that it was the best burger I've had in my lifetime. Really! He said the shakes were to die for.

Who went to the Foxwoods Food and Wine Fest?

I went on Saturday. I attended two events - the Italy Wine and Cheese Seminar with Joe Bastianich and the Grand Tasting. I agree with you on the Grand Tasting. I actually did not drink at the GT (since I sampled 6 wines at Joe's seminar - all were impeccable), but found for the most part, the food boring. I did enjoy the scallops that the Johnson and Wales students did and the Peking Duck from the Oriental restaurant at FW. Also loved the Gelato from Giuliana's. The seminar was fun and informative. Tasted the best wine of my life - a red from Sardinia. I'd do the seminar again. The GT - maybe not. Mohegan's was much better.

Gabrielle's in Orange

I'm a regular there for dine-in and takeout. IMHO, worth every penny. Excellent food (great variety), always bring home a doggie-bag. Wonderful homemade bread. Favorite dish is Chicken Veluto, made with provcuitto, garlic, mushrooms in a vodka-pink sauce over linguine. Eggplant dishes are great as well. Never had a bad meal there.

Where to eat at Foxwoods?

Six of one, half dozen of the other. All are great - Al Dente a bit more old School Italian, but you will not be dissapointed in either - or Burke's, for that matter.

Where to eat at Foxwoods?

Both Italian places are great : Alta Strada is at MGM and has a fabulous brunch on the weekends. Al Dente is in the Grand Pequot. Try one of their specials. If you like beef, David Burke Prime has never dissapointed. Craftsteak, while more expensive is also good, but not worth it, IMHO.

Paul

We absolutely loved going to Paul each day for breakfast. The store we frequented was right on the Champs-Elysses, Metro - George V. The smell alone was intoxicating! Best hot chocolate ever. Wish I had one right now.

Teenager-Friendly, Fun CT Restaurants?

Agree with hotwing on the Sun rec's. Margaritaville would be #1 choice, followed by Bubba's. Then you can go shopping in the stores. Spend an extra $5.00 and take her to Lush Cosmetics and have her pick out a fun bath bomb or bubble bath bar! She will love that place.

French Macarons in Greater New Haven?

I spent some time in Paris last summer and absolutely fell in love with their Macarons! They are not at all like the coconutty version that we have here. And the colors and flavors were AMAZING!

Does anyone know where they could be found in Greater New Haven, or any place in CT for that matter?

Best Doughnuts in CT?

Pastry Fusions ROCKS! Huge donuts, so flavorful, crispy on the outside, full of filling on the inside. Love the raspberry cream!. Triggs is right, his cakes are to die for, and quite reasonable, too!

Looks like the last Krispy Kreme in Milford CT is going!

I believe that the KK's at Mohegan Sun are still open, so yes, you can still get those artery-clogging hot donuts in CT!

New Haven Pizza expidition

A hint to avoid lines at Pepe's - go there for lunch. It's open and there is very little waiting!

Pepe's at Mohegan - OPEN

DH, son and I were there Wednesday night for a concert and saw that they were open, and NO WAITING, so we walked in at about 5:15. Little did we know, it was their opening day! Inside it looks like the Wooster Street place, all the way down to the signage and colors.

Menu is simple, pizza and salad, with beverages. Pizza tasted exactly like the original location and service was ok - actually way better than ok for the first day. They also do take out there, so you can have pizza for the ride home, or eat poolside if you're staying in the hotel.

I sincerely hope that they do well there. Nice to see a local company getting a spot at one of the casinos. I have a feeling we'll be waiting in line for some time on our next visit!

Luce for Lunch (Hamden, CT)

A viable alternative to Luce , and considerably less expensive is Ludal in North Haven. I know, it's in a strip mall, but the food and beverage menu is exceptional and service is warm and hospitable. Very nice decor - you would not know you're in a strip mall. The place does not dissapoint.

Where are you going for a good steak in CT?

katty, I've had the crab cakes on an appetizer plate. I'm in Baltimore alot on business, and have had my share there. Gilbert's crab cakes are as good as any that I've had in Baltimore! DH took me there last year, for my birthday. They decorated the table so nicely and had dessert on the house!

Geez, Biscuitboy, I totally forgot about Gilbert's! Another great place, with nice atmosphere and great apps and desserts as well. Come to think of it, we have several great options for carnivores in CT. I would not pass up an invite to go to any of the places discussed.

If money were no object, I'd say Craftsteak at MGM Grand at Foxwoods. Freaking amazing. Worth every penny. If you're there and happen to win - go there and reward yourself. If you lose, go there - you'll feel that much better!

Cafe Routier Of Late

I've said this before on this board - I like my food without drama. It's the reason I won't ever go to Sally's Apizza again, and after hearing about the manager of Cafe Routier, I would not ever set foot into the place.

I don't care how good the food is, if it's not presented with hospitality, I don't want it, and I really don't want them taking my hard-earned money (especially these days).

Shame on the owners for not recognizing that going to a restaurant is not all about the food. It's about the experience.
