Best Fajitas near Sherman Oaks

Baja Fresh. Imo, The S.O. is limited in that category. My killer fajitas are made at home on the grill.

Mexican Food/Margaritas in the Valley?

I agree... a hot summer afternoon/evening at Casa Vega makes me happy. Their margaritas [on the rocks] are the way to go. I keep my order simple, guacamole to start, fresh flour tortilla chips and chili con queso if i am in a sinful mood. The salsa is a red spicy sauce. Excellent. The main course is a burrito with mole sauce on top. [The burritos are massive and can be shared by 2] It never disappoints.

You cannot make reservations and it's usually busy in the evening [any day of the week]. Get a beeper from the hostess and enjoy a margarita (or 2) at the bar. NOTE: the hostess usually gives a wait time about 3 times longer than you will actually wait for a seat.

If I want AMAZING Mexican I trek out to Silverlake for Allegria on Sunset.

Delancy

I went to Delancy's on Wednesday night. They have only been open 55 days and still have a few kinks to work out in the service department. The selection of beer on tap is great (but does not beat Lucky Devil's). The pizza looked like the best thing on the menu however i went with the bartender's recommendation for gnocci. Not so great. Decor is great, location is great, seating outdoors on Sunset blvd looked like it might be interesting on a cool evening. We sat indoor at a booth, very nice. I look forward to returning and trying their pizza.

BEST STEAK IN LA? OTHER THAN CUT

I Second Maestro's. I went to the BH location 2 weeks ago and had the most amazing bone-in ribeye and bone-in filet (shared by 2 of course) i've ever had. The sides were incredible: tuna tartare and lobster mashed with a spicy ceasar salad.

If you want romantic get a spot on the entrance floor. however if you want some music and a crowd sit in the second.

Defining "The Burger" Best in LA

Ok, so I know there is much discussion of the "Best Burger in LA" [ http://www.chowhound.com/topics/338345 ] but there needs to be some clarification to define what is a great burger. There seems to be so many burger joints that make my mouth water and keep me coming back for another.... IMO, the best burgers need some categorization. Also here are a few of my favorites….. how about yours?

1. The "Fast Food" Burger - inspired by Mcdonald's but refined to please any foodie. $
In-N-Out, of course.
If you live in the SFV I have found a hidden jewel.
Bill's Burger: No signs, No Frills, outdoor seating only. Bill has been serving up these amazing burgers for over 40 years. He, Hiroko and Sharon are only there M-F 8-4. Only go for the burger and the quirky group. Don’t expect fries, just a killer burger. Bill is old and this place will not be around much longer.
Bill’s Burger
14742 Oxnard Street
Van Nuys, CA 91411

2. The "Home Cookin’ Burger – this is something you might be able to make at home, the juicy one that gets all over your face. $$

A fine plump burger. I like it with grilled onions, bacon, avocado and the standard fixins. Comes with good fries that you should ask to be cooked, well done. All this for about $10.
The Pineapple Hill Saloon & Grill
4454 Van Nuys Blvd
Sherman Oaks, CA 91403

3. The “Gourmet” Burger – The finest beef and freshest condiments put together with superb creativity. $$$ - $$$$

My top picks:
Lucky Devil’s
The Village Idiot
Boneyard Bistro
25 Degrees

Also, check out the July 2008 issue of Bon Appetit for some great ideas for grilling burgers at home.

Alphonso Olives

Does anyone know where to get Alphonso (Alfonso) Olives anywhere in the greater Los Angeles Area? I've looked at my local Whole Foods, Gelson's, and local market to no avail....
